( www.TFLcar.com ) The 2020 Ford Escape offers a fully-loaded Titanium trim, with prices starting at just over $33,000 for that model. But is that really the one you want to buy? Roman and Tommy test out the Escape you should actually buy.

David Meyer Yes but the plastic door panels in the rear are unacceptable. He’s probably also annoyed that car manufacturers are only making the same appliance but with a different badge. There’s no difference among any of these crossovers, nothing makes them interesting they’re all the same size they all have the same available features with the same packages and they are even starting to all look alike. It wouldn’t be so bad if I could get a 1.5L manual awd SE, it would make it much more fun. It would be like a hot hatch but with AWD and more practicality. He has to review essentially the same thing over and over,

Designed for women, but carried 2 giant men just fine! A Unisys computer repair guy came to my house to repair company computer, driving a 6 year old escape; 340,000 miles, no major repairs, I was impressed! He said regular oil changes, original turbo too, as much as we love the old cars, that kind of mileage was rare. I’d loved to see MOMA Romans take on this crossover:

The interesting thing is when they review premium cars and still complain about hard plastics😂😂 But they screem about it when it is a ”budget brand”. Car reviewers in general does very bad work i think... They have their favourit brands and always they will price them no matter how bad a car is. I’ve seen them telling us that the space in car A is to small in the back seat ”i just have this much to the roof and this much for my knees” and in car B they say that they have plenty of both... but the car is obviosly much smaller in the back... thr thing is that they just care about the badge... if we just had switched badge with thei favorit brand but everything else would be the same they would have priced the car no matter how bad it is... Btw... the ford escape... or as it is named in rest of the world ”KUGA” is one of the most expensive Ford models here in europe

A 1.5L 3 cylinder.... that's different. But I'd be curious as what the engine is like for refinement, mileage and longevity....
@syxepop
@syxepop 5 лет назад
Craig Quann, for a little comparison BMW has had a similarly sized (134hp in US-spec) 3-pot on their base Minis (and some 1-Series in Europe) for 1-2 years. This could test if that kind of sizing benefits any against the larger I4's they substitute... Ford also installed a slightly more tuned version of this EcoBoost on this year's Fiesta ST (same 197hp as last year's 1.6L US-spec model), so you may see from European digital reviewers how that fares...
@justinluttrell1769
@justinluttrell1769 5 лет назад
I doubt it's built for any of those things. We're living in an era of "let's put this turbocharged motorcycle engine in this 3,500# car so it blows up earlier and our customers have to pay us 5 grand all just to get 1 more mpg than the tried and true ~165hp 2.0L port-injected, naturally aspirated inline 4 that will easily last 200,000 miles".
@syxepop
@syxepop 5 лет назад
Justin Luttrell, if you're talking about the 160hp NA-2.0L from the Focus, I'll put you a shocker... Both the 123hp 1.0L 3-pot EcoBoost and that engine are in the Indian-imported EcoSport and they're within 1 mpg of each other (this is the comparison you maybe talking about), but even the 1.6L is NOT A HAPPY CAMPER on the EcoSport as neither engine gets 30mpg HIGHWAY as per US-EPA. EcoSport is just WAY TOO HEAVY for even the larger engine, it'd need like 200hp (the EU-spec 1.5L in the new Fiesta ST is 197hp or +17 over the 3-pot Escape), so the ST-tuned 1.5L 3-pot maybe ideal for the EcoSport and slightly snappier on the Escape (and I'll bet the 1.5L would get like +3-4mpg over the 1.6L). So WEIGHT BALANCE seem to be MORE IMPORTANT than just displacement size.

All three current smaller Ecoboost’s the 1.0 three cylinder, the 1.5 four cylinder, and the 2.0L are problem plagued and fail often. The 1.0 has a belt driven oil pump in the oil pan that fails and blows the engine up. Both the 1.5 and 2.0 engines have saw cuts in the block between the cylinders that cause the blocks to deform and coolant intrusion into the cylinders. There are engine programs for both the latter that automatically get engine replacement when intrusion occurs. 2.0 is the most reliable. But they all have serious issues.

@afcgeo882
@afcgeo882 5 лет назад
Tyler Melton EVERYTHING is better with a light foot. It’s not a turbo thing. It’s best to keep the RPMs low and allow the transmission to gradually get the car up to speed. That’s not at all the point. The fuel economy of the EcoBoosts is indeed on par with the V6 it replaced. That’s the issue. The point of replacing a V6 with an I4 turbo is for the added fuel economy. Look at the Jeep Cherokee and its V6 vs I4 performance and economy. Look at the fuel economy of the CRV 1.5T and compare it to the Ford’s 1.5. Compare the 2.0 turbos all around in fuel economy.

“A piece of tin, a piece of board, a little gas, you’ve got a Ford!” This quote was written in Popular Mechanics about the Model T. In my forty years of driving I’ve owned over twenty cars as I’ve often kept multiple cars at a time. They’ve included Fords, Lincolns, Chevys, Oldsmobile’s, Buicks, Mercedes, Volvos, Hondas, Toyotas, Plymouths Dodge and Chrysler. One thing that I can tell you for certain is that my Ford products have been the most economical to own and maintain in the long run by a comfortable margin and I’ve kept mine for an average of about seven years in different locations. They’re solid and comfortable and have served me well.

I bought the Ecosport over the Escape. I purchased a 2020 AWD SE with the 2.0 as a secondary car to my f250. The reason I went with the ecosport over the escape was it has a long time proven non-turbo'd duratec engine which should mean less problems and good reliability. The 1.5 engines in the escape seem to have some serious problems with headgasket/coolent leaks and such. The 2.0 escape didn't make sense because you can only get it on SES and above trim putting you into a $35k range where I got my ecosport for $22k out the door after rebates. At $35k for the escape you are only a grand away from a nicely equipped ranger which I feel is a much better vehicle. The ecosport SE has the moon roof, sync3, and is very similar inside as the escape and it has a shift lever which I prefer over a goofy electronic knob. The ecosport is rated to tow 2000 lbs which I did with the trailer and quads on several occasions and it did fine other than when its hilly you need to lock out 6th gear by using the select shift feature. The escape's tow 3500 lb tow rating with the 2.0 would be nice but I don't feel the price difference is a good value and that goes for the bronco sport as well. If you could get the 2.0 in a SE package for $29-30k then I probably would have gone with the escape. With all that said I have had female relative who is an escape owner who got a ecosport as a loaner and she didn't like it. It felt too small to her.

I got my 2020 Ford Escape SE in black last mid March 2022. It was a big upgrade for me. I used to drive a 2015 Ford Escape SE in silver grey. It took me awhile to get used to the controls. A couple times that I tried to put my house key in the ignition but, I know it is a push start. I do sit tall in the vehicle so that I have the seat down and back. I almost got a 2019 Ford Escape in white but, it had leather seats. I liked cloth seats better. I just loved the smooth drive in it. I even learned the Apple Car Play really quickly shortly after I got it. Even changing the 5 digit code is so easy,too. I’m always a Ford gal.

I'd have to drive these 3-Cylinders. Right off the bat I don't like the way it sounds. It sounds more raspy and annoying than refined. But I'd have to see how it feels power-wise. 180 HP is more power than the 2.5L I4 in my Rav4.
@afcgeo882
@afcgeo882 5 лет назад
Juan Zingarello The number of cylinders doesn’t change the power, but it does change the sound. Theoretically, with less cylinders you should have less maintenance problems, but realistically, the EcoBoost 3-cylinders are notorious in Europe for cracking heads.
@juanzingarello4005
@juanzingarello4005 5 лет назад
George L I’ve heard about that with respect to I4 and V6. The I4 tends to be more reliable than V6. I imagine the I3 in Europe you are referring to the 1.0L in the EcoSport, Focus, Fiesta, and C-Max? Well this one is a larger displacement so it should be a different engine. Hopefully those issues are ironed out. I know Ford engines tend to be hit or miss but usually engines like the Duratec, Modulars, Windsors, and so on historically have been pretty solid.

Oh and it's those little things that Ford gets that no one else does. For example, when you get the Titanium, Ford knows you want everything, so it comes with adaptive cruise control, lane keeping, all the safety features like blind spot monitoring etc.. All wheel drive, the 2 liter 4 cyl Ecoboost engine, leather heated seats, heated steering wheel and heated mirrors. I also found out they come standard with a tow hitch. It also has the self parking on it and the Bang and Olefson stereo system. Jeep, Toyota, Honda, Chevy just don't understand that. You go buy their top tier and there is still stuff you may not get. I checked out 4 Jeep Cherokee Limiteds and none of them had adaptive cruise control, and only 1 had the heated steering wheel and mirrors. Same price, fewer options than Ford.

I would say the card slot is for parking garage's at work where you need an access card to buzz in which allows the arm to go up to gain access. I know my wife has gone through the car many times when the access card has fallen or she thinks its lost. The 3 cylinder engine puts out almost as much as a Santa Fe with the 2.4L 4 banger,(185 hp/ 178 tq). Does the Titanium offer heated and cooled front seats? My 2013 Kia Optima SXL has that option, I am finding that not many in any class besides over 70k has cooled front seats.

You do want the 2020 Escape Titanium because that is the only trim to get the upgraded LED headlights. If you look at the headlight testing data on IIHS for the 2020 Escape Titanium, its light output is much better than the LED headlights from Ford's other offerings like the Explorer ST, Edge ST, F-150 Lariat 502A/Raptor, etc... I dont know about everyone else but I drive in the dark a LOT. I'd say over 70% of my driving is in the dark and I absolutely, absolutely, absolutely HATE horrible headlight designs. It's the difference between being able to see safely down the road in the dark with rain/snow/slush and just guessing as to what pothole or object you are going to hit next. Right now it is a hard choice for me to decide between the Explorer ST and the Escape Titanium. The Explorer has obvious quality/build issues (exposed wiring, electric brake assist issues, Chicago assembly) and the LED headlights are junk. The Escape gets better fuel economy and much better headlights. But when tuned, the Explorer ST will run 12s while the Escape Titanium fully tuned will be about as fast as a stock Explorer ST. I've had 2 other cars from Chicago assembly, 2014 SHO and 2018 Explorer XLT and both have had a lot of severe design/build deficiencies. My 2018 hood is rusting and the rear brakes are rusted to the point the brakes drag, and this is with under 12k miles (still has the brand new car smell). But the 2016-2019 Explorer LED lowbeams are really good. It's a shame the V6/AWD has the internal water pump and PTU design flaws.

I've been driving Ford and Toyota hybrids for 10 years as a professional cab driver , 7 years ago. Then Uber and Lyft with my own New then 2018 Ford Fusion Red Hybrid which is AWESOME with 66k miles , smooth and flawless with incredible acceleration and that runs on 145 HP. Now I bought a black 2021 Ford Escape Hybrid 2.5 L 4 cylinder with combined 200 hp and its even MORE AWESOME than my Hybrid sedan. I would personally never choose the gas 1.5 L engine on 3 cylinders for Chicago's adverse weather nor country hilly terrain when crossing states..You would definitely struggle with power and pickup. After reading so many reviews why are people and this generation so caught up on interior features like cloth or fabric interiors. This 2021 Escape reverse plastic is even better for me cuz when my kids and dog get it dirty all I have to do is get a rag and clean it right off and your done. Maintenance wise it's the perfect solution. How many times has my crazy Viszla put his dirty paws and ruined my fabric and other older 2012 Fusion.? Too many. I'm on my 6th Ford Vehicle and they are strong solid cars. Personally I will never go back to a gas engine cuz I see them inferior even if you harshly disagree with me!. Hybrids are so quiet, smooth and Fast that once you had the experience and knowledge of driving hybrids you would never go back to dinosaurs mileage like 28 mpg. Right now, I'm still getting 561 mpg on a $27 dollar fill up in Chicago metro area suburbs for my 2018 Ford Fusion Hybrid. Also the awesomeness of regenerative braking and how it has saved me so much money on Rotors and Brakes. Trust me for 30k a Ford Hybrid is worth every Damm penny! Simple as that. Hope you all enjoyed my honest biased opinion about hybrids in general!!!

Good review. The lower beltline should also make it easier to access drive up ATM machines. When you lift the hood and talk about the engine, you might also comment on how easy/or not easy it would be for the average person to swap out the battery, air filter and also the cabin air filter. On some cars, those processes are easy and on others it is not. Also, does the new Escape have a locking fuel filler door?
