Just wanted to add one pit fall I've seen happen locally. Anyone that is in an official positions of point taking, making rulings, warding prize support etc. should /not/ participate in the event. Having your game drag on because your opponent keeps having to answer questions, or having an organizer end up winning prizes just doesn't sit right. So while it may be tempting to fill in that last spot so you don't have an odd number players and have to deal with a bye I've not found it to be worth the potential trouble later in the day.
Absolutely! That’s why I roped in Jamie as my ringer just in case 😊 Ultimately everyone has come to play games, and if I were to be playing against someone, and not able to give their game my full attention it wouldn’t be fair on them, even if they were given a bye.
Thanks! There are loads of awesome events out there, but I hear of so many people not being able to find any events local to them. If there’s a community but no tournaments then someone should step up 😊
Watched this twice now , just got back in to middle earth strategy games after 6 yr break and started to build the battle of pelennor field starter box, would love to join a event like this and meet like mind people who enjoy the hobby.

The Pelennor Fields boxes set is a fantastic place to start and you get a lot for the price, plus more than enough rules to teach you all the basics. Keen an eye open for upcoming events and make sure you dive in quick if you fancy coming - the tickets for this event sold out in less than three hours last time!
Great video man. Kinda sad I missed out on the day but feels good to see the Rohan houses being used on the table with dice being rolled and people having a good time! Keep putting those tournaments on, I WILL attend, some day ;)

Use auto save, or use the auto backup feature, even after a computer reset excel can usually still restore the info. Give it a Google though. Will save you in those clutch moments
Do it man! It wasn’t something that appealed to me when I first started but they’re really good fun. I’m still not a ‘competitive’ player but I enjoy casual tournament from time to time 😊
If it’s any reassurance, Luke from Geek Gaming Scenics came to this tournament and had never played before and didn’t come last! It’s easy to pick up and everyone in the Middle Earth community is really friendly so I’m sure you’d be fine 😊
I experienced both good and bad tourneys. I guess some inexperienced hosts can cause troubles, if they’re not confident enough to tell someone to eff off or to adhere to rules. Also some people tend to be idiots who don’t understand sportsmanship. But it can be a really great experience if you meet the right community!
I've been messing with 40k for the last year or so lol tho I was into it before hand because games etc, and I'm fairly slow at painting. Love getting the models ready and painted, messing with lists etc but I've still not played a game because no friends or game shops near me, so I'm just like :( wouldn't mind playing a Lil killteam or patrol size matches (or a Lil bigger) but I ain't got no one to play with 😤 I wouldn't mind using table top sim either since I have it set up, but those sweet souls out there who want to play and learn with ppl, hit me up because I could use some game time :(

@@BenjisHobbiesPlease don't misunderstand me, I can empathise with that fully. My point is more that your video wasn't a story about (or didn't include) an incident at a warhammer event at all. There's a difference between twisting a title and complete fallacy. Hell, even something like "Was this better than a Warhammer tournament?" would have still ticked the boxes and kept the warhammer buzzword. I'm not here to tell you what the title could have been, just as a viewer I found it completely unrelated to the content presented.
Re: Technology doing what technology does best as I have been there done that :) A good notepad and pen are invaluable! Other tips from the life of a former tournament admin - A whiteboard/flipchart with the games on it also helps with at-a-glance tournament standings and is a useful player aid. Especially if you put the round start times/table numbers up on the board. If it's a knockout tournament for speed, the upper winner stays on the table they won on. Saves moving armies around too much and helps that change-over time between rounds. Although this only really helps when you have fewer games than tables, and you have non-narrative maps without specific terrain features.
Middle Earth tends to not be overly competitive. Of course, you’ll get some players who love the competitive aspect hit more often than not people just enjoy playing with their fluffy, thematic armies rather than meta lists. Give it a go sometime - you might find that you enjoy it 😊

Did… did you watch the same video as everyone else but are having some sort of episode or are you just getting mad at some hypothetical video you think you’re watching? A. It was a fantasy game being played, not sci-fi. B. The stupid mistake was by me as the TO, not the players.

Really intresting video, I still love MESBG and this looked like a fantastic game. Kind of wish the video title didn't have the "Warhammer " in it, I know its for clicks but I find it very cheesy and offputting when the content speaks for its self. That said keep up the great videos (titles aside :D)
It’s a tough one - unfortunately you have to title videos to appeal to a broad audience. If I’d have called it ‘How to run a Middle Earth Strategy Battle Game tournament’ it wouldn’t have had anywhere near the number of views it’s had. It’s a shame, and I never particularly like doing it, but it’s a necessity to get anywhere on RU-vid. I hear a lot of people saying ‘just let your videos speak for themselves’ but you can make the best video in the world, but no one sees it unless they’re drawn in by the title and thumbnail combo!
This has to be a CGI vid, you keep showing a room full of the same guy in slightly different clothes. Maybe a clone experiment. Good work though, tournaments can be a pain to organise at the best of times, even without pandemics. Or clones.
Unfortunately the adverts are a necessity. RU-vid alone doesn’t pay enough to justify the time investment it takes to film, script and edit videos. If more people became Patrons perhaps I wouldn’t need sponsors 😉
