100% transparency in case the video was not clear: I have a handshake agreement with Card Kingdom. I can do as much or as little as I want, how I want, in terms of plugging them (99.9% of videos just flash my affiliate code at the end). They did not know that I bought the Legends Booster Pack (I ordered it from their website using a friend's account) or that I was going to do this VS style video. I asked if I could open 4 boxes of Collector Boosters and then give them the contents back, and they agreed, not knowing anything more than "It was for a fun video idea." That's the whole story.
It came across clear to me, and honestly I would have been completely fine with them sending the pack too. Tho it looks better on everyone that they didn't.
It was clear, honestly, in the slightly characteristic "light banter" which I have seen here before. And I'll check them out when the time (and budget) comes for the next abomination of a Commander deck is in the pipeline. :)
@@jamesstewart8663 yeah, regardless of how people feel about him purchasing the Legends pack or not, it's a fun little experiment, and showcases some more cards in Dominaria collector boosters pretty well. Speaking for myself here, but I always get at least one bundle of a new set, and then will peruse the card list to see if anything strikes my fancy to buy individually. People love to complain, and people will always find a way to do it, unfortunately...
It vastly improved the quality of the video. My jaw dropped when I saw what he pulled because I didn't see it coming. If he had in any way implied he got a huge pull, the surprise effect would have been ruined.
I like his idea of grading and proxy it. Some cards, though should be played, are just worth keeping as a prize. This especially because this set if from his childhood and he was rewarded for his love of magic.
Prof as a longtime viewer, I LOVE that you've added in the top card (money-wise) and also a tracker to tell what box and where in that box we are. It's a nice touch of polish that goes a long way!
You got that pack for yourself as a treat so treat yourself Prof! Grade it, frame it and keep it for yourself. Probably grade Tolaria too, it may not be worth as much but the fact it was right behind Tabernacle is nothing short of a sign you should keep it and it will make for a great story.
Well, I have to admit I never expected you to pull that at the end! Not sure what to do with it, but I can only imagine how cool it is to have that memory immortalized on video. In other news, collector packs are still absurdly priced. And you gotta love that quality control of all those upside-down cards…
@@SatinFoxx def a bug, I opened a whole collector box and had no upside down cards. There have been complaints of a large amount of or misprints in Dominaria United. I got a foil card where half the foil part wasn't glued or made correctly and I was able to just straight up peel it off xD
The moment you flipped the rules card I saw it, I paused and I was shocked!! And then you took a moment to look at the rules card and I was screaming at my screen ''I'ts a tabernacle Prof look at the tabernacle''!! What a pull, congratulations!!
I feel like putting them both into slabs and having them in the background of your Professor's Desk shot, with the Tolaria having a "You are here" sign under Tolaria, and then a "Not here" sign under the Tabernacle would be the funniest use of a $3000 card and a $10 one.
I love how visibly shakey Prof's hand is after *the moment* . Who could possibly blame him? Well done Prof. I'm so glad it worked out, even if thats a bit excessive. WOTC is doing their best to break your "buy singles" mindset.
45:35 - The second you moved that rules card away, I literally said out loud "NO WAY...." That is amazing! Few people will ever know that kind of feeling opening MTG cards, especially today (not unless they open older legacy sets)!
I think a lot of people thought or spoke that out loud. Same here... I skipped a bit through and was when he flipped the rules card and was like... Is that tabernacle.... Am I stupid.... Is that tabernacle skipped back..... What... 🤣🤣🤣 So funny he pulled it while it's the poster card for the dominaria collected boosters
GET THE SLEEVE!!! I was smiling like an idiot seeing that Tabernacle! It was great to see someone like the prof hit the jackpot like this, especially after all he's done for our community.
I love coming back to this channel and watching the Professor’s videos, even though I don’t play MTG anymore. So genuine and wholesome 😊 Also, holy SH*T that card was $3000!?!?
You should sign tolaria and frame it! You should definitely get the Tabernacle graded, and use a proxy if you ever grow cruel enough to put it in a commander deck. CONGRATS!!!! What a huge win 🥰
I love how you did this vid, prof. From the no clickbait no nonsense title, to the untamperable setup, and the honest unfiltered reaction to the legends booster pack opening. Keep up the good work!
For my personal play (which is all commander now), my personal rule is that if I own one copy of any given card, I am allowed to proxy said card in any of my decks. Therefore, I’m in the camp of getting the Tabernacle graded, since a PACK FRESH tabernacle is something that very few will ever get to hold in their hands at this point, and should be preserved. I also think you definitely should get the Tolaria graded and displayed somewhere, maybe even on the “set”. It’s exactly on brand, and it feels almost fated that that came into your hands, after all the time and effort you’ve put into Magic and the community.
@@brianpenner9286 why not, if he has it he could just switch it around and use it everytime he played any deck. It just saves the hassle and protects the card.
Just proxy regardless. Bring appropriate decks to appropriate tables. I haven't bought ANY singles in almost 2 years, but I still give my lgs plenty of love with sleeves and boxes
Loved this video Prof! What a reveal! Someone else mentioned already no clickbait on the pull, I love that. I feel like I really won a prize for making it to the end and experiencing that "...***..."
Who wants to buy a booster where the best card is only 3x the pack’s price anyway? Dominaria United has cards 8x-10x the pack price, so clearly it’s a better set. Right?!? /s
Save it and frame it and put in the background. You did it! You opened the magic time capsule! Keep it to remember forever. Some things deserve to be in a museum so everyone can see, and now it can be immortalized in each of your future videos in the background forever!
I really honestly advocate for playing with these game pieces and I have a few NM Gaea's cradle that are double sleeved and in decks. But honestly, if I pulled a pack fresh tabernacle, I'd absolutely get it graded, that one especially looks worth grading! Congratulations on the absolutely fantastic pull!!!
I like this argument for most expensive game pieces, but this is an old used car! Feel like he should get it graded and put the proceeds toward a charity raffle or auction or something like that.
My jaw dropped at having the amazing experience of witnessing a tabernacle opened on video pack fresh. This is definitely one for the recorded history of magic thank you so much professor! And yeah definitely slab it and frame it or sell it off to evil Rudy ;)
I love the fact that you did not mention anything about the contents of the Legends pack in the video title. Very classy and it allowed me to be almost as surprised as you were 🙂 Really happy for you! Cheers!
I'd say that the Tabernacle should be absolutely graded (at least for preservation, it's a PACK FRESH TABERNACLE!) and then either sold for financing all your hobbies (that's at least 100 pauper decks!) or video products you wished for (and getting the 1000 bucks back!), or you could put it on auction for charity, linking it to this video to spice up the price a bit, with the clause of retaining ofc a minimum amount to pay yourself back (depending on how YOU feel about it.) Absolutely love to see you so giddy of getting your youth back at that small 1000$ price!
That made me so happy 😊❤️ I remember the other video with Rudy where you also opened a tabernacle. Congrats! Ask Rudy what you should do. Seriously. Grading seems to have been cheapened quite a bit over recent years.
What a rush, Prof. Unbelievable luck with you and Legends packs! There's nobody I'd rather see have the magic touch. Congratulations on the amazing pull!
What a wild ride of a video. Frame that tabernacle (and the tolaria too) and proxy them for games. But more importantly, add them to the set. Then when you draw the proxy in a game you can point to the framed cards and link to this video
Absolutely get the Tabernacle graded, at the very least. If you do decide to sell it to generate more funds for Shuffle Up and Play, it will go further graded than not; if you decide to keep it, it becomes a fantastic conversation piece, and as you mentioned, you can always proxy the card for play purposes. That was a spectacular moment, and it absolutely made the video. I've seen similar moments on other pack opening channels, but it just hit different here, knowing this was a personal purchase.
Tolaria is actually pretty good for the Legendary tribal strategies around now. 5c Sisay, for example, can pull it straight from deck as ramp and for an untapped blue source.
Although I appreciate the "100% transparency" I think it's fair to say that there isn't anything inherently wrong with sponsorship deals as long as everything is kept entirely honest and above board and I've never thought you were doing anything less than that. You've always been a voice of reason in the Magic community and have never failed to signal a warning when it came to potential rip offs. You've never failed to argue that Magic is a game first and a collectible second and you've always tried to find a common ground between the various groups of people involved, whether they be players, collectors, investors or some combination of those. For me, you are the most trusted content creator in this community and if only WoTC would listen to you more often the game might be in a much better place today. Keep fighting the good fight (not in terms of physical violence, just putting forth great arguments for or against something) and know so many of us are standing right there beside you.
You have no idea how happy my girlfriend and I were for you when you opened the tabernacle... we were both in silence and then started laughing 🤣 keep up the great content and great to hear what you're using it for. You're brilliant 👏
As much as someone can mean it towards a stranger on the internet they know nothing about, I love you, Professor. Your happiness brings me happiness. Thank you for all your efforts.
14:37, Box 1, $131.32. 24:17, Box 2, $165.18. 33:57, Box 3, $144.35. 44:03, Box 4, $273.35... But the experience was priceless! As for the Legends Booster Pack, see 45:15.
Tolaria was the signature on a very cool content that you deserved to do. Zero spoilers/clickbait in the title, great admiration from Italy despite that note of contempt on our card versions 😂
15 years ago I bought a beat-up Tabernacle for $20CAD at my LGS for an EDH deck. I stopped playing for a while shortly thereafter. In 2016 I was going through a rough patch and started going to Commander nights at YJ to get out of the house. Played the Tabernacle in my Selenia deck and got a lot of side-eye from the other players. Suffice it to say I was surprised! Quite a welcome back to the game. I was tempted to sell it then, but don’t regret holding onto it for a while. Magic is truly much more than a game. Amazing pulls, and no-one deserves them more than you.
You gotta play that Tabernacle, unsleeved, on the gravel the way Garfield intended. Alternatively, it would make an insane prize for your next charity event! Not only a big value item, but the story behind it with this video and your connection to Legends makes it more valuable than the graded price tag to your fans, it would be great for that dollar amount to go to a good cause!
You got so emotional when you saw the Tabernacle! I love it! 🤩 In my opinion, you should get it graded. That will be a good memory and make you smile when you see it ^^ you could always proxy one to play, after all you have the original 😂 have a nice day and be safe. Love ya'll! ❤️
DUDE MY HEART SKIPPED WHEN I SAW THE TABERNACLE! NOW FREAKING WAY! Prof you rock! you're amazing and I am so happy this happened to you and I am excited to get the grey and red Academic from you in a few months
Honestly? Grade them both, then frame them on the wall with the TCC logo between them. Get a few proxies together and put them into your cubes, commander decks, what have you. That way you get the best of both worlds, a powerful card that can be played and a collectors piece all your own to be displayed. These are all your own, and you deserve this blessing from all the good you have done for us, professor. Congratulations on your many successes, and all the wonderful acts of kindness you have performed over the years. We love you Brian.
So, I think you probably have the right idea that using it to fund future content is a good idea. I also would love to see you play one game with it, just to say that you did, but if that doesn't strike you as a good idea, 100% do what feels right to you. After all, we come here for your content. Congrats, Prof.
Frame it and put it up on the office wall, It’s quite a story! Glad you had some good luck with the legends pack Prof. You definitely deserve it for all the good will you’ve given this community over the years!
Awesome and fitting ending after most of the collector boosters were duds. Glad to see a big hit at the end. Also, thanks Prof for showing the rules card from the legends booster. It's cool to see that history. I had forgotten how the old legend rule worked.
Really nice opening Prof, you deserve it! You should keep Tabernacle with you during events as a token of fortune.🍀 I myself just yesterday opened two Battle for Baldur's Gate draft boosters and one of them had two Ancient Gold Dragon in it one of which was a Rulebook alternate art one! I'm now a proud dragon owner.😁
That reaction put a stupid big smile on my face, I hope you enjoy some of the new cards (and old). Lots of solid pick ups for a few bucks or less folks. Grab a play set of those pain lands now, they’re solid lands for commander anytime.
Legit my heart leaped out when I saw that was what you pulled from the pack. This was a good watch and I deeply enjoyed it. What to do with the card. I say you are right on both parts, cards were made to be played. Then also to have the card sent off for grading and a proxy used. You do have the card and use of a proxy for it should never be an issue.
I really like the original idea: get it graded with the knowledge you can just proxy it into any deck you have. Keeps the original safe and increases its resale value as an investment but also lets you keep it as long as you like so you can play with it. And if you don't have the graded copy on you when you play the proxy, this video is a convenient proof that you do, in fact, own a pack fresh Tabernacle. Very nice pull and thank you, again, for the reminder to not buy packs for the sake of opening them.
I can’t imagine how ecstatic you had to be to open that! I was jumping out my seat for you lol! It’s crazy to think that there are still gems like that sitting around in packs that will never be opened
I would vote to play it, since cards are meant to be played :P It's the most expensive card used in Legacy lands decks, so that's a plus. But if you do want to put it back into shuffle up and play, get it graded first - it'll significantly increase the sale price, and both PSA and BGS iirc will let you put a custom phrase on the label if you ask (usually for denoting a card as part of a specific collection - "The Tolarian Collection" on the back would be a good little momento, and the distinguishment could also boost the value). My original idea to tie into shuffle up was to make it a prize of sorts, but I figured I'd mention it here as well to say you shouldn't do that, since it would go against the overall feel of the series by adding stakes.
I am very new to MTG. My entrance to the game started opening double masters 22. Bought single pack from draft box, got 3x value. Was pumped, went to buy a box of draft and collector box. Made almost breakeven, then found your channel, realized opening packs (cracking it seems to be called ) was just for hobbyists. Buy SINGLE must be a motto for any MTG player i think who wants to enjoy the game.
I enjoy playing the game, and love cracking packs which gives me the singles I need. Yes I have to buy the older singles as I won't pay the price for packs for older sets, but opening up DMU and newer sets is great. I opened a Dominaria United fat pack and tripled my value. Covered the cost of it with the foil borderless Liliana.
I would print a nice screenshot of this episode. Sign it, frame it nicely with the cards & display it. I just heard a batter hit one out of the park, what a perfect pack you opened; wow! I enjoyed this vid; well done. Thanks for the content.
I'm not sure if this is a new addition in this video, but I really like the top card tracker. I always watch these at 1.5x speed so it's interesting when some of the music you choose starts hitting really hard :)
The fact that you no-scoped the absolute biggest hit in Legends off of a single pack is completely nutty. I wonder if you caught a glimpse of it while flipping that rules card and started hyperventilating
Honestly, I cannot think of a better advertisement for Card Kingdom. Professor basically just visibly demonstrated that Card Kingdom's antique booster packs aren't searched. Congrats on your pull, prof.
Personally there would be no contemplation on that. That Tabernacle would be getting graded. Normally I'm against doing this, but something like that is a piece of MTG history and should be protected for the future. Just the experence of pulling something like that after all these years later is just insane. Congrats on the pull Professor!
Congrats, prof, on pulling what is... literally the most expensive non-Power Nine card in all of MtG??? Wow! Hope you continue with the great content, it's really fun to watch.
The hand shacking, the *gasp*, the voice asking for a sleeve, the smile at the end.... You can see true joy there. Its not a dude cracking packs looking out for profit, its a human being. You can see the high school kid he used to be
Congratulations! I don't play magic that much more these days, but it will always have a place in my heart. It helped me develop skills and comprehension that I find useful in many different facets of life. I'm very excited for you as you have such a genuine passion and excitement for the game that represents the community in a positive way. May you find continued success in your channel and life!
I'm out of magic since many years now but I come to watch a video from time to time and boy oh boy am I happy to not have missed this one. Love your genuine happiness about the tabernacle. Happy for you. Also, a card worth that much - get it graded.
You sell the Tabernacle and use the proceeds to get a Tolarian Academy (because it's your Alma Mater!), get THAT graded/plastified/made into a necklace to establish dominance, and then whatever's left can go towards other funding other projects.
Oh wow ! This is spectacular! I stumbled while walking with my kid, thinking what professor is up to! I can’t imagine the rush you got from opening one of the most wanted cards in MTG history! I can online dream of owning one! Would be epic for my Legacy maverick deck! I think you should double sleeve and put it into a deck and enjoy it! If you are concerned, than frame it! It’s to be enjoyed ! You deserve it proff!
My favourite booster cracking channel! I could only afford singles that I want, but TCC has shown me the true way to enjoy these wonderful products. Cracking packs!
I tried this in the middle of the street. The results, though interesting, were less than ideal compared to what I would imagine it would be like if I had tried this at home instead.
Love watching you open packs but still can't fathom why people would waste money on collector booster boxes...glad you were able to make the agreement with Card Kingdom
Congrats, and thanks for the honesty in your work here! You've thoroughly convinced me to avoid purchasing boxes and enjoy deck building through singles.
Wow! That was just... WOW.😱 Congratulations on the epic pull Prof!🏆🏆 So the takeaway message here would be: Buy a LEGENDS pack instead of CBBs.😅 But kidding aside, massive congrats! Well-deserved!🏆🏆
I think you get the tabernacle graded , then sell it and buy something for you professor , something you been needing or wanting to make your content easier or better , so that way we can all benefit from that nice pull
great vid proff! I love the dual lesson of: buy singles and if you're going to spend $1k on dominaria boosters in the hopes of pulling a legends card, just buy the legends pack!
you are absolutely right, get it graded, put in a box and up on your shelf surrounded by a little shrine. then pay an artist $100 for a beautiful custom proxy and put it in your favorite deck :D
