Do Pet monkeys Really Stay In Cages? Macaques and Environmental Enrichment
In this video I discuss the reasoning behind the many claims that pet monkeys really stay in cages when they are not being filmed for social media videos. I present discussions from ex and current monkey owners, who did not exploit their monkeys for social media purposes, who express many regrets and utter sadness at having no choice but to keep their pet monkeys in cages for a lot of the time.
Additional arguments are put forward to support the claims that despite what exploitative pet monkey channels would have us believe, we know of many instance where pet monkeys have indeed been kept in small cages off camera.

You cannot "domesticate" a single animal. Domestication happens to _an entire species_ over _hundreds of generations._ You may be able to _tame_ a wild animal, but even then, it _remains a wild animal,_ with all of its instincts and inborn behaviors intact. To monkeys, human behavior is bizarre and insanity-inducing. We humans _are Cthulhu to monkeys._ Keeping a monkey _properly,_ with full concern for their welfare, _physical and _*_mental,_* turns you into a monkey's butler. You have no life. And that, right there, is the _Biggest Sign_ that these pet BabyMonkeys aren't being cared for properly, but are just undergoing a repeat of Harry Harlow's infamous baby macaque experiments: the "owners" are living lavish lives of leisure. Most of their time is clearly spent _on themselves._ Which means they cannot be tending to those monkeys' mental-welfare [which, as I said, is a full-time job].

Look, no one in their right mind allows a monkey, particularly a 6mo to 2 year old monkey, to run through their house unsupervised. Period. These monkeys are not staying home alone unattended, as evidenced by the fact that they are being filmed, sitting patiently by the window waiting for the owner to return. These people are not sleeping with the monkey in bed beside them. And these monkeys do not have their own rooms lavishly decorated with pillows and blankets and all manner of luxuries. These RU-vid monkeys have cages. Every single one of them. Whether the audience ever sees the cage or not. And I'm not opposed to cages. My dogs have crates they stayed in whenever I wasn't home for the first 2-3 years of their lives. And they CHOOSE to sleep in those crates even now as adults. But the cages need to be of an appropriate size. There needs to be bedding. And there is a reasonable limit of how much time they stay in those kennels every day. Some monkey channels show the cages the monkeys use. The cage is their bedroom. With bedding and stuffed animals AND the often overlooked water bottle hanging on the side. It is where the monkey sleeps at night. It is where the monkey stays if the owner has to leave the house - for a job or shopping or any appointment away from home. And I would go so far as to say the monkey should be in their cage whenever the owners attention needs to be elsewhere, ie: when they take a shower, are cooking dinner, working on home or car projects, studying, working from home, etc. As long as the monkey has adequate room, gets regular meals and has a reasonable amount of time outside of their cage for exercise and play, I am all for cages. If a monkey channel isn't showing their audience the cage where the. monkey sleeps etc., then thats a pretty good indication that the cage is probably small, sparse and over used. Having said all of this, I do not believe that monkeys should be kept as pets for any reason. Even if someone had all the money needed to provide large indoor and outdoor enclosures for the monkey and plenty of time to devote to the monkey, it still would not be enough. These are wild animals who should be left in the wild with their families and their troop.

Kaka tried to escape many times. She is almost an adult and can be aggressive. In the videos, she in the bedroom almost all the time with the other monkey or the youngest daughter of the family. She is jumping at the windows and visible nervous. In outings, you only see her climb one tree or the family goes to the sea, where she is scared. I am so happy that she is in a rehabilitation center to get back to the forest in time. I can understand that people like the videos, it takes time to understand that everything is fake and scripted. Kaka is three years old in her last birthday celebration the owner said the age in his language and said three years that means she is almost and adult and the monkey was starving for a long time because is extremely skinny and low development for her real age and it's intentionally to make her look like baby being and adolescent and naive fans said now she is very skinny at the NGO cage because don't eat their fancy and abundant food they used to eat it's ridiculous they think kaka was fat with the family maybe for the clothes but was evident her malnourishment she was extremely skinny when put out the clothes to took her to the NGO and now she is finally develop her muscles and gaining weight and looks a little bit better of weight and fans said she looks more skinny and sad, all videos I have already sawn at NGO looks very happy playing but people said they look sad it's incredible how they distortion the reality to see what they want to see, also the only video the mother went to the NGO kaka doesn't want to stay with her and also the she avoids kaka when he wants to sniff her and fans said kaka gave her a kiss and the monkey didn't want to smell her at all and she shamelessly dodged him, also they continue trying to manipulate them with old videos with false visits(only went two or three times) to NGO trying people hate government and NGO and the one who is violating the laws is the owner but for fans is a nice person a person who bought monkeys to hunters, a person who keep wild animals in captivity as pets knowing he was violating the laws, who make a lot of money using them more than 30 thousand dollars each month just in one channel also violating another law about using monkeys for entertainment on social media, filming outside the house in public places without a collar or chain, filming undercover inside de NGO without permission to continue exploiting them and a long etcetera of abuses and lies of this family and the relatives with other monkeys like Puka, I'm happy Puka was rescued too.

How are they going to survive without diapers, clothes, blankets and a bed?? Also without all the delicious food their "Daddy feeds them"!! Yes, I’ve tried to tell them too- these are all SKITS that the monkey is trained to perform like a circus act and costume, period. Nothing more. And all the food they “spoil” them with can be so bad for them! Milk products when they are lactose intolerant.. all the sugar both natural and in jello or cakes or rice, they rot their teeth and give them diabetes because they are not built to eat that way! Btw They even TRULY believe that a monkey is “home alone” when it’s CLEAR that they are being recorded! The camera is moving and following them around. And if we want to be detailed, it is the camera man that is giving them orders / making sure they follow the skit or routine they’ve been taught. And the monkey is not happy. Even if they show love to their “owner” it’s purely instinct and the same as a poorly treated child would still show love to their ab-sive parent. They are like toddlers/ children in THIS sense.

@@LaurenWoz421 I believe they pretend the abuse doesn't exist because they honestly do not support or approve of animal abuse.. But when they've supported, defended and even worse sent donations to these channels it's hard for them to come to terms with the fact they were supporting an animal abuser and financially supporting his channel!! It's really too much for them!! I used to watch The first Bibi and when he disappeared the owner made up a huge story as to why he had to go back home, he didn't say get rid of him.. He told his viewers Bibi has to go back home.. When I researching everything he said and realized nothing he spoke of exists in his country.. Then he replaced Bibi with another monkey and named it Bibi too.. It was like a slap to the original Bibi fan's faces.. Thank you for your work.I watched the video from this monkey ex owners . They all said please dont bring a monkey in your house they should be in wild. And they are all happy that they find a place who takes the monkey, not easy to find. But also a rescue center or sanctuary is not a solusion for this problem . Rescue centers say most of monkeys are sick cause of wrong feeding and very traumatized. So the monkeys have to stay a very long time before they can move to a sanctuary or in the countrys where they live back into the wild. Some must stay forever. This Monkeys cost a lot of Money for food and Medical care. And they have not enough place for all this animals. This is why the law for all wild animals must be changed all over the word. No captivity for wild animals. In circus and in zoo's you can also see this symtoms of behavioral disorders. We can not take care for wild animals because they are born to be free.

Unfortunately, the behavioural signs from these macaques usually show signs of distress, which we feel is very important for people to recognise when engaging with these channels. It is clear to see that across the exploitative pet monkey channels that these owners do not have experience looking after these animals and as primate experts would tell us, just owning one of these animals is considered a form of abuse in itself because they simply cannot thrive and live how they should in human environments.
