𝗗𝗢'𝘀 & 𝗗𝗢𝗡'𝗧'𝘀 𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗕𝗼𝘀𝘀 - Part 2 of "How to Ask The Boss for Budget & Resources." This was a very lively and great conversation last week and so I thought it would be great to add some additional thoughts for what to do or not do during the actual meeting.
𝗗𝗢𝗡’𝗧
📛 Use a bunch of technical terms & jargon.
📛 Come with an all or nothing approach.
📛 Ignore their feedback.
📛 Take initial rejection as a killing blow.
𝗗𝗢
✅ Be open to and adapt to feedback.
✅ Offer a 2nd proposal if first is rejected.
✅ Be willing to shrink the scale of the project or adapt to a smaller project.
✅ Clearly discuss how the project ties to company goals.
✅ Remember the long-term goal is to improve production outcomes like productivity, quality and labor retention.
A good boss, most managers, want their employees to succeed. It makes them look good and it will ultimately help them succeed. So their feedback is important to listen to and engage with.
𝗠𝗔𝗡𝗔𝗚𝗘𝗥𝗦: What have you seen employees do WELL or POORLY when they come to you with a project idea or proposal? What are your secret tips to getting budget & resources allocated to a project? Would love to hear your thoughts in the comments.
Until next time, ask yourself:
𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗪𝗜𝗟𝗟 𝗶 𝗔𝗨𝗧𝗢𝗠𝗔𝗧𝗘 𝗻𝗲𝘅𝘁?
