I did get a little revenge by digging every one of those little jerks out & watching them become chicken treats. Heat, humidity & MOSQUITOES are killing me here in S. Louisiana… But I’m regrouping & I’m gonna get a dang squash if I gotta hand pollinate the plants in my house, Lol Those jerks won’t win this time…. 🤞hopefully 🥴🥴. I love your description of the perfect garden. I dream of that every spring and then I go out in the spring (northern Utah here with snow and cold winter and HOT summer but no humidity) to my beautiful garden and am hit with weeds a foot tall in the pathways. But I keep going and am rewarded with fresh yummy produce right out of the garden. Ready to make a batch of pesto to freeze for winter. It is worth it plus all the health benefits of the earth and our bodies. Keep on gardening and thanks.

If it was easy, everyone would be doing it, right? I've been gardening for most of my 73 yrs and I think I've about seen it all. Yes it's hot and humid in the deep south, but early morning and late evening is tolerable . Now's the time to pull out spent plants and get the garden ready for fall planting. In a couple of weeks I'll be starting all the things I'll grow through winter, like cabbage , broccoli , cauliflower , onions , and collards. I have heart problems, copd and no I don't smoke lol so the heat and humidity get to me pretty quick but the good Lord has blessed me abundantly.

We've been gardening for years. Each season has its growing challenges, but this year seems to have had a lot of challenges at once. Rain or lack thereof. Insects. Unrelenting heat & humidity. I heard somebody last week say that they were so sorry for people who were taking up gardening for the first time this year, it's been such a struggle in places. Anyway, we all feel overwhelmed at times. In our case, we're just trying to keep plants alive and planning ahead for the fall garden.

Going into our 9th year with a large backyard garden, and yes, it is a lot of work. Especially with a full-time job and family duties. My wife has a love-hate relationship with the harvest and preserving food. She loves being able to reach into the freezer and pull out the green beans she's prepared all fall and winter. I sure love you, your wisdom and encouragement ❤️. While I've been gardening for well over 50 years since I was a very small child... I absolutely love it and God has given me a gift and passion to grow just about anything... The last few years have been some of the roughest gardening...moving to a different part of Texas- with all the different pest pressures, a dying parent and being her full-time care partner, to crazy weather- frosts in May killing all my seedlings, extreme heat with over 95 days at 113° or more, and the latest heavy rains - 19" in a few days, then then Beryl's winds ripping most of garden out of the raised beds like the hand of God just reaching down and pulling them out... the damage was and is tramatic to say the least. Especially for someone who's done this successfully for years 🙄... However, I've never had irrigation in my garden, and so, I'm just looking at this as an opportunity to clear out a busted bed, and put in irrigation, and then get that bed ready for planting and a fall garden... and the blessings it will be not to stand in the heat [yes the am heat] for 3 hours plus watering... Your videos are truth! Yes, you so the successes, however you also show the failures or the in-between... Now, while we had roof and barn and garden damage, we didn't lose our home or lives, so I do count it all joy and pray for those who were much more greatly affected than us... Just know you're appreciated! Many Blessings ❤

Hi Chad, thank you for all your encouragement. I enjoy your channel very much. I am in north Texas and, yes, I’m burned out. My tomatoes suck this year and my green beans have been dismal and have died even before they got to harvest stage. When I get burned out I think about the huge wins I’ve had this year. Had a big crop of carrots, have had about five pounds of edamame and will harvest more by the end of the season. Had a pretty good crop of peas from one of the varieties I planted. Got blackberries out the ears in the freezer. This is our first time growing corn and it will fail due to heat and insects, but my peppers, cantaloupe and sweet potatoes and Kubota squash are all flourishing. Just have to keep in mind that you win some and you lose some. Next year may not be better, but it will be different. That’s the fun of it!

I’m also in Cypress, TX and can attest to the unbearable heat and humidity. I basically do a deep water in the mornings, swat mosquitoes that ignore my insect repellent, do a quick check for pests, swat more mosquitoes, and get back in the house. I am soaking wet by that time and my yard is half the size of yours. It is absolutely miserable out there right now. We have several days of rain in the forecast, which is good for my blueberry bushes that are in containers under netting, but I still need to water plants in my tiny greenhouses. Everything is in containers from 5 gallons to 20. Went the greenhouse route so I’d have fewer pests to deal with and they have worked pretty well. I am pressing on, even though I have pulled up stuff in my first home garden that I wasn’t crazy about, and have replanted even more. Persistence. Brian Lowell uses a tent when he works specific areas and maybe you can get some kind of sun sail or large tent, too. By the way, I am so sorry for the loss of so much of your garden during the last storm. Not that last storm but the one before it, that had tornadoes taking down the power lines, I thought my greenhouses were goners but they somehow survived.

I’m 70 and I’ve been gardening pretty much all of my life. First with my parents and grandparents, and then as an adult for 50 years. As I’ve gotten older, I just can’t handle the heat. I’ve never seriously wanted to quit because I love gardening too much, but there are a lot of days that I just don’t want to go outside. I just want to stay inside in the air conditioning. In the years when I’ve really been on top of things, I have a watering system set up on an automatic timer and I have everything well mulched to hold in the moisture and prevent weeds. All I have to do is keep an eye out for pests and diseases and harvest. This year isn’t one of those years. I moved last year and here we are in July and I’m still just setting up my garden. In the spring we went from winter to hot and I just didn’t get stuff done. I’ve found with all my years of gardening that some years are just like that. I don’t quit, I just try to keep plugging away and I go by the rule that it’s never too late to try to plant something. So don’t give up! If it’s too hot, don’t go out during the hot part of the day. Go out in early morning or in the evening. Just do what you can do and don’t beat yourself up over what you don’t get done. Don’t worry about what other people say like don’t water at night. Water when you can. Do what works best for you. I hope this helps someone. You’re awesome just for trying to garden and things always get better!❤❤❤

Hello, I love all your videos and I love how real you are so please don't ever quit. I'm from Houston as well, and I have been gardening for 6 years, our backyards are made alike but I have a smaller garden. I'm so glad you put out this video because I felt like quitting a few weeks ago, this year has been my most challenging gardening season because of the heat🥵, not enough rain, insects, and pests, I haven't gotten a lot of harvests, and then the hurricane messed my garden up even more, but thank God it didn't completely destroy everything. I will say gardening does get overwhelming sometimes but once you start gardening there's no going back, I would lose my mind, it's so therapeutic and so amazing how fruit and vegetables grow and produce especially when started from seeds. I just have to accept that everything isn't going to be perfect and that's okay. Thank you for all your videos they keep me motivated and inspired.
