Do The UK Building Regulations Ruin Our Fun? 

would love a video on what aspects of the regs are too rigid or dated. theses examples are clear so it'd be interesting to hear your thoughts on less obvious problems with the current regs and what can be done to improve them

Actually when i watch various home/ pro builders over in the USA i notice how far their building codes are behind the rest of the world, some states don't have any at all so the home owner can build pretty much what/ how they want. Those states that do have building codes are are so far behind especially with insulation it's unbelievable. Some don't require a membrane or insulation under concrete slabs, and those that do require it ( usually the colder states) on require 50mm of insulation. I think part of the problem with our regs in the UK is they are not thought through when updated on how they will affect older homes that are not that well insulated etc.

For me, the bigger problem is writing (and reading) the seemingly endless reports. The time it takes drains one's will to live. Let's see what shall I do next, a Construction Management Plan, a Context Report or perhaps something in relation to Health and Safety? The joys. I sympathise.

I know that you're aware but strictly speaking UK building regulations don't exist, as building regs are devolved. Scottish building regulations are very different to English ones.

the only thing u cant rely on is common sense... greed, stupidity or lazyness is always stronger... thats what regulations are for....
