Great vid. We’ve canned water in Ball canning jars. Set up as if to water bath can. Sterilize jars, pour hot boiling water into hot jars, put lid and ring on jars, drop into canner and allow to boil at 180 to 210 degrees for about 15 minutes, take out and allow to cool and place in a cool dry dark place. They are sanitized and will last a very long time if stored correctly.

@@part-timeprep5932… Yep. Proper storage, away from sunlight or heat. Perhaps in a basement cabinet. It will last forever. The canning jars are great because they are multiuse. Check out…RoseRed Homestead on U Tube. That is where I got the idea. She has a playlist which includes canning H2O.

Adam, I've been on a water conservation kick here in the current Texas drought. I have 3 dogs and learned I throw out 2-3 gallons of water every three days just dumping dirty water and quick rinses. That doesn't even include actual washing. I was throwing 20+ gallons of water down the drain just for pets every single month. 😱 Water is so precious, I'm embarrassed that I haven't worked harder to conserve it.

I spent a couple of years in the middle east. Many times I ended up on a small FOB that did not get a water delivery for 3 or 4 days at a time. Everyone used baby wipes to bathe with at night and I can tell you they work great. It only takes 2 or 3 to do your entire body and then focus on the important parts last. You can even clean your hair with them. Drinking water wasn't a problem there as we had pallets of bottled water everywhere. We used that for teeth brushing as well as drinking.

Smart ideas! I live in North Texas and while we were having the ice storm I used several of the ideas you mentioned. I especially liked the water heater suggestion. Because when the water in my water heater froze, it literally busted the floor supports and fell down about a foot. Thankfully I had previously turned off the water to the house and was in survival mode, but it was -8° that day and as you know, things in Texas just aren't built to withstand that kind of low temperature. I plan on adding insulation and additional support to that tank in hopes that what I experienced then doesn't happen again. But inside my house, it was so cold (no power off and on), that the top of my Dogs water dish froze. I then took apart a small $10.00 crock pot that I had picked up at Walmart and used the ceramic bowl from that to put their water in and it worked great for that. It was a tough time, I had to go into extreme survival mode and basically camp out in my house but I got thru it. Thank God for the training I have received as well as the emergency supplies and stuff I had around to use. And bottled water, water in buckets ECT helped me get thru those bitterest of days. Let's hope we don't have to deal with that again in our lifetime. Can you imagine what our ancestors went thru with just one or two layers of boards for the exterior of their homes and newspaper on the inner walls to help keep our the breeze and bugs?!? Bless their hearts. Yes, they all had fireplaces or wood burning stoves that helped but with that in mind they also had outhouses to go out to, to use the bathroom. When we had the ice storm after everything froze up using the toilet (even with buckets of water to help flush) it was cold in the bathroom with no heat or power. And after it got down lower where the pipes were frozen, using the water from the buckets weren't feasible, so I had to line the toilet with trash bags and use the bathroom in there, while covering the waste with kitty litter. I also had a 5 gallon bucket set aside to place the trash bags inside of and close the lid. I also used alot of antibacterial wipes, baby wipes and wet paper towels to clean things with, and placed them all in gallon size ziplock bags to help keep germs and smells at bay. What I would suggest for folks is to get a small crock pot (it can be used to warm water when you have power), as well as a medium and large crock pot to use for cooking or warming up either foods or water or both. People don't realize how much just a warm cup of cocoa or soup does for the soul and mind when things are bitterly cold. It helps more than you can realize. Thanks for the reminders.... hopefully people will take your suggestions at heart and will use some of them to get thru the bad times. Stay safe out there neighbor.

Extremely important for folks up north especially. Sawyer and many others say never let it freeze with water in it. It will destroy the media and allow passage of water that bypasses the filtration. You can seriously hurt yourself or make real sick with the false sense of security. There is no way to know for sure either, so PROTECT FROM COLD at all costs and always toss a filter unit that has been frozen.

I really appreciate the calm delivery of this message. Some prepper channels think we are already in the disaster, and I feel like they've never seen a disaster before? Anyhoo, we were super lucky in The Big Freeze of 2021 here in Texas, but near the end they told us to stop dripping our faucets because they couldn't pump water into the towers fast enough. 😱 We'd been prepping since Harvey then stepped it up at the beginning of Covid, so being water-ready was a load off our minds. Thanks for this great video!
@part-timeprep5932

P.S. You're right that water collection doesn't have to be perfect. I don't have gutters but collect lots of rain water in big, black trash cans from the drip off my flashing over the back door. I've also seen a suggestion on another channel to rinse & fill up old laundry detergent bottles for things like hand washing.

Collecting water is a must. I normally have 300 ltrs of clean drinking water stored in bottles and Black plastic Jerry Cans, I have my water butts to collect water outside 4 x 250 ltrs and also if I have time in an emergency and the water is still running I have a WaterBob to store water in the bath. A totally sealed unit that keeps insects, dust, etc out of the water. Along with ways to clean the water should it be needed.

Please have a contest, with rookie preppers telling 1 thing they did this week and submitting it to you. Smaller the prep the better. (Crash diets don't work, it's the slow and steady that win) I am willing to supply the prize to the winner. Honor system for defining "rookie prepper" Other contest we could have are learning quick release knots for conserving cordage. Never cut your cordage unless absolutely necessary. Contest to keep gas tank above half for 2 weeks (this will put them in a prepper mindset) finding alternative routes home ect. Contest for frugal living. (Cooking 2 foods in 1 pan in a creative way for when fuel a scarcity) (shortest route to run errands not necessarily the order of priority for when fuel is a scarcity) honor system that they actually did what they say. I feel this could revolutionize the prepper movement. I hope you will consider my thoughts here. I plan to send this to other preppers too. Love your content keep it coming!

Leading up to Katrina we bleached out our 2 bathtubs and filled them up with extra water,as soon as we could we jumped our well off our generator,, after a few days of taking our baths in the pond, we figured out to fill our outside water hose and lay it in the sun, our 400 ft of those would heat up two baths

How much does the bottle hold? I believe the standard is a gallon per person per day. I'm not sure why anyone would intentionally short their preps, though, even if they currently consume less.
