On today's 2 minute garden tip, I provide a guide to summer pruning fruit trees. Most deciduous fruit trees are pruned in winter when they are dormant. However, there are two instances where pruning fruit trees in summer is beneficial, and you'll save a lot of time pruning trees later in the year. Do this now, prune less later!

Thank you for this video. I would love a video on the proper timing for summer pruning espalier trees (specifically apple) to promote spur development. I've followed all the advice I've found on other channels and pruned them after the growth stops (varies quite a bit depending on the apple variety) but it seems that my timing is still off because my apples aren't producing many flower clusters the following spring. What I might do is experiment and summer prune each branch of my apple at different times, recording the date, and then determining which branch flowers the best the following spring. Anyway, I'd love your take on it!

Hey man greetings from germany. Can you say something about cherry trees for example? I heard for trees like cherry trees its better to prune after harvest, like end of july.

You know. You have got to do something with all that produce. Something every gardener has to do. But most garden Chanel’s don’t touch on the food storage and harvesting. Coming up on June when things like Garlic, onions, potatoes, and beats are all going to be ready about the same time for me to harvest. Tips welcome 🙏

Love the short videos, and the long ones too! I have a pepper problem. It has been very cold this spring, but finally is warming up now, mid-May! Garden centers got their pepper transplants on the usual schedule and now the peppers in 4 pots are blooming and have little peppers too! I know from your pepper videos to take the little peppers off. But, should I take the flowers off too? I was afraid I'd lose ALL the crop if I did that. Can you please do a 2-minute on late and overgrown transplants? BTW, could not find any of your favorite peppers here, but I did get an Italian pepperoncini, a corno de toro, and a giant marconi too. I already had thai dragon and the 'gypsy' sweet pepper I've grown before. Thanks so much for all the information you offer us!

Thanks for the pruning tips. First year doing grow a little tree. I do have a question. After cutting a couple of my trees to my knee, all the new branches are on one side. For instances I have one peach tree with 3 new limbs all same side and close together. I plan on taking out the middle one. But what can I do if any to get new limb growth on the order side?

Do you sanitize your snips in between trees? I hear a lot about doing that, so I have been doing that myself. I just wasn’t sure if it was necessary when cutting back hearty fruit trees.

Generally, yes, but this persimmon basically doesn't get any issues where I live. If I were pruning something disease-free in my climate like persimmons, figs or pawpaw's, I wouldn't bother. Pruning problem trees like apples and peaches, though, I would!

You said you chopped up fresh pruning as mulch layer, wondering cut smaller or just put leaves or just toss cutting under?

I bought a Satsuma tree from MacKenzie farm Feb 2023, and it litterly hasn't done anything. It's not dead but it's just stagnant. Any suggestions?
