Hi Anthony, This isn’t the topic but I need help with my green bush beans. I don’t have many beans yet. I have been picking them and not missing any. The foliage is great and there are a few blooms but most don’t seem to produce an actual bean. I follow your fertilizer regimen. Planted some seeds in a 4x4 raised bed, a vertical tower and a 16 inch pot. I water regularly. Any advice would be helpful. I think the fertilizer %’s are off. Thank you !
I love these guys have you ever taken a blade of grass and touch them lightly on top of their head they have an orange antenna that pops out I believe to warn you to back off nice to know there are more people that like them thank you for your video
SO SORRY YOU GOT SCAMMED! We've managed to avoid this, by always buying our seeds from (as you do) reputable companies, but almost always from a local firm that has a national following. When we've needed need backups, we go to the local farm supply - which carries seeds from multiple national companies (including Burpee). The only times we've been disappointed was the two times we bought butterCUP squash seed, and got butterNUT squash as a result. It was disappointing, but not disastrous as your tomato experience turned out.
As mentioned in the video, it was absolutely disgusting and inedible. All the fruits tasted rotten, even when underripe or perfectly ripe. They all had to be trashed.
Coincidentally, I bought the 25cent seeds from Dollar Tree this year. I had great success with carrots, but when I planted spinach in two trays, I got a jungle of something that I'm pretty sure is a tomato of some sort. I'm thinking of replanting the best of them into a 5 gallon bucket to see how it comes out..
Southern exposure seed exchange is the best. I get all my seed there. The quality is superb. Often it is 100% germination On another note if you want the best tomato hands down try "granny cantrell" Ive been growing those for the last 4-5 years, " old virginia " is another good one too. Both are in southern exposure's catalog
Great tip for squash bug eggs. Thanks to your videos I learned what to look out for on my inspections. Fortunately, today I found 2 bugs and several leaf's that had eggs laid on them. I removed the entire leaf so as not to disturb and lose some eggs that could be overlooked and hatch in my soil. They were secured in my trash bin. I appreciate your experience and teaching me how to grow my own food.
I too have gotten seeds appearing to be some hybrid or just not what i purchased. The past 3 seasons. Not naming names but being from 1 well known seed seller and 1 seed exchange. This experience has been with okra, peppers, tomatoes, radishes, summer squash, winter squash and cow peas. I can see the random mishap with something occasionally but ive had this issue multiple times in a season for 3 seasons running. its unfortunate they dont have a large selection of seed but none the less at least theres one four letter seed company that never lets me down.
This year I got Ferry Morse beefsteak tomato seeds, SO BAD. This is my first year gardening and I learned it the hard way. Among 25 tomato plants, I only got probably 10 beefsteak tomato plants. The others are just pathetic small tomatoes but larger than cherry. I WILL NEVER BUY FERRY MORSE EVER AGAIN. And I will take notes of the brands mentioned in the video.
@2MinuteGardenTips - does the extra moisture draw a lot of flies and mosquitoes? If so, have you found any solution for that? I’m sooo over the bugs lol here in western IL. Thought maybe I’d try your solutions in other areas where water keeps pooling. 😂
@2MinuteGardenTip - how did they hold up for the second season? Figured I’d ask before I go buy various colors of oil pens lol. I will end up color coding mine bc I’m a nerd 😂
Because they are sold out, and that is the conservative estimate for the product to be replenished. This is peak summer season, so now is when everyone is buying them up. In my experience, they overstate the shipping delay and it ships significantly faster, but it's entirely possible it takes the full timeframe to replenish stock.
My dad and i only grow heirloom seeds from tomatoes that he has been growing for years! But that doesn't mean I'm going to get the plants I wanted. My dad is 86 and he is turning the seed saving over to me! I will also be doing the seedlings for us also! 😅
I keep it simple for myself and stick with Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds, MIgardner, and Territorial Seeds. I only buy seeds. I have heard of others having issues, but I am fortunate not to have had any.
I bought beefsteak seeds from a name brand seller and they were only bigger than cherry tomatoes. They yielded well, but definitely NOT beefsteak! Not a mistake on my part, because I used those seeds, again with the same result.
even Dale won't go near them. I bought a mislabeled kumquat tree- beautiful, pest-free leaves, it reliably flowers with a multitude of bright orange fruit, but I have to say, the peel is sweeter than the fruit- more sour than a lemon. It's a dwarf tree, so I leave it as a reminder- if it's too good to be true, it probably isn't.
Sorry you were scammed. I think you are very kind to share this info. I wanted to buy crookneck squash seeds. However, the shipping charge put me off. Seeing your video has changed my mind. So thank you again for sharing Maggie UK
I made this mistake for the same reason 😬 I will never get seeds via Etsy again. Maybe ebay since I've identified a couple of reliable seed shops. The rest will come from legit seed stores since it sucks expending so much effort and resources only to end up with something you didn't want, or worse, total garbage.
I love Southern Exposure Seed Exchange (SESE). They are my favorite seed company. I also like Trueleaf/Kitazawa and Botanical Interests. I'll check out your other recommendations. Thanks!
I try to buy from one new place a year, just for the heck of it. Sometimes I find a great place, sometimes I don’t buy from them again. But seeds and plants are my crack, so…
I bought Okra seeds at a local retailer and it was definitely not okra that grew LOL It had spikes all over and fluffy floaters in the spiked pod. I believe they were burpee seeds. I really like the seeds from Seed Savers Exchange, MI Gardner, Mary's Heirloom, Sow True Seed, Baker Creek.... I need seed savers anonymous.... I have purchased some odd items from smaller shops with great results. :)
Next time you forget to order a variety, I’m sure one of your RU-vid friends here would happily do a seed exchange with you for the price of postage. Enjoying your channel, thanks for sharing.
"Reputable seed companies" youre telling me as a "millennial" gardender... "millennial" .... yet your mentality is .... lacking?? Millennials dont buy seeds, well we do sometimes. But then as MILLENNIALS the real Millenials, that actually aren't living on grandpas inherited wealth learned AGES AGO. How to create our own seeds. Breed our own strains. Creating strong more resilient more adaptive plants .... So like stop cheaping out by buying seeds, put in some elbow grease (omg its so easy) and make your own seeds. Heirlooms are hard to grow and susceptible to pests. Millennials should be smarter than to do all that work just to "throw out" (we wouldnt) the crop.... So wasteful
Ugh! I did the same as you! I forgot to buy bok choi, so bought some from a "shipping included" seller on a major online retailer. I didn't read the reviews (mistake!). Did I get bok choi? Nope. Instead, I rec'd some random brassica that I think was maybe a mustard, but who knows? It tasted nasty! I had to tear them out. Months of seed starting, transplanting, and growing wasted. Too hot to replant by the time I realized the problem. Never again!
Second year but still no flower. I only trimmed a branch since it grow towards the center early spring. So you say I should prune on winter but not spring? Also where's the link to how to prune? How do we tell if the tree is male or female since I haven't seen any flowers yet? What do we need to add to encourage flowering during spring? What should we do to prevent deer chewing the leaves?
This year we bought corn seeds from a store and the first batch only had four out of a hundred corn sprouts, bought different type and only 3/4 of them sprouted and they were expensive. That will never happen again.
