Not a single person consciously chooses to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars to kill themselves slowly and painfully. Only unconsciously and lacking in mindfulness could we pay so much for so little.
When we address the symptoms of our problems, we will only keep finding new problems that pop up like in a game of whack-a-mole. When we get to the root of our problem - who we are and why we're making the choices we're making - every problem disappears.
No matter what bad habits we have, no matter what bad thought patterns or impulses we are slave to, we can become free from their grip. We can become free from our minds. Our highest intentions and deepest intuitions can take back the reins. This is not just the path to quitting smoking, this is the path to freedom in every aspect of our lives.
I and everyone else on our team is beyond grateful for your support. You are helping us grow our Community of Kindness. Your support helps us make even more and even better high quality videos that we can share with the world to help lift everyone up so we can all live our best lives possible - all at no cost to viewers and we intend to keep it that way.

Your video reassures me that I am not alone. This is a habit I have struggled with for a long time. I give up, sometimes for months, and then a trigger pulls me back into this old behaviour., and it happens when I get pulled into the chaos of life and I become overloaded. This is when meditation takes a back seat. Listening to you reacknowledges for me how powerful and healing meditation is. Blessings to you 🙏

Zen style meditation works, in my experience. This is anecdotal, but for me the problem was that the physical withdrawal would lead my mind to start making excuses, even when I knew that those conscious thoughts in my head telling me to smoke were invasive, in a sense, and rooted in pathos, rather than reason. Meditation helped me because I was able to practice catching thoughts of any kind, stopping them in their tracks, and letting them evaporate so they could never reach their conclusion. You just count your breaths and when you find your mind wandering, you stop the thought where it is, refocus on experiencing your breathing, and then start counting from one again. The more you practice, the higher you can count before losing focus, and eventually you don't have to count at all. The ability to do this is the way you can catch thoughts which will convince you to smoke. It doesn't make the physical symptoms go away, but it gives you a way of quarantining them off from the rational and conscious part of your mind so they can never get control it and lead you to the decision to smoke again. It's like you're barring them from the cockpit, essentially (I can't speak to other forms of meditation. This is just how I did it). There's also a thing which happens where it feels like, rather than running away from the experience of withdrawal, you're choosing to experience it fully, and while it's still uncomfortable and awful, this decision to face it robs it of its power to control you. I noticed that when I was doing something like working, socializing, or whatever, and had my mind engaged by that activity, it was at that point where my attention was elsewhere that I was weakest and would fall prey to the urge to smoke. If the urge appeared, I'd just go and do it in order to appease it so I could then focus on what I was doing originally. I guess it's because when you're trying to quit but fall off the wagon and decide to smoke, you're always running away from that experience of withdrawal and buying it off, so to turn around and face it directly and experience it fully is to truly commit to quitting. You're always running away from the withdrawal or urges and that's the whole problem. The way to beat it is to stop running away, focus on the withdrawal or urge when it appears, give it your full attention, and face it down. It's like you have to keep an eye on it and stay vigilante or else it will find a way to worm its way into your conscious mind. When the withdrawal got particularly bad in the first week of trying to quit, I would always think of Thich Quang Duc and reason that if meditation enabled him to what he did, as horrible as it was, surely it would enable me to withstand a fit of nicotine withdrawal. Or I'd think of the Nancy character in the first Nightmare on Elm Street film in the final scene where she turns her back on Freddy Krueger and he evaporates because she's made the decision not to give him power by fearing him any longer. At that point I'd go meditate and get control of my mind again. It wasn't easy, but unlike everything else I tried, it actually worked. This was my experience and it was the only way I was able to quit. Your mileage may vary of course, but meditation was the thing that worked for me.

Addictions are unconscious programs, the body knows how to do it better than our conscious mind, in order to break addictions, we have to be greater than our environment and body, sit your body in the present moment, once u do that it's a victory, 🙏😊

We learn, evolve, and gain wisdom, only through contrast of the dark and the light. When we go into the dark (hopefully as consciously as possible), this is when we gain wisdom and realize that we do not have to go there again, then motivating us to shift back into alignment with who we really are and what truly resonates with our spirit, which is going to be beneficial for you, and all the beings around you.

I'm glad I watched your video. I've just come off the back of yet another failed attempt to quit smoking and was feeling pretty miserable. I think you're right that it is a ritual, much like with OCD, because it becomes an obsession. Your wise words returned a sense of calm to me though, and I realise that, while all the thought I have given to quitting has only served to feed the addiction, I have actually seldom brought any awareness to it, despite vainly regarding myself as someone who knows about spiritual practice. There is really only the act itself, everything else is just in our minds. You've inspired me to actually start meditating properly instead of just thinking about it!

And I promised to never pick it up again. We shall see. I battle with anxiety/ panic attacks and depression. So I pray it works 😊

Makes sense! I have an issue with coffee too, I get decaf and don’t need caffeine really in any drink, but it’s a habit to get a cup of coffee throughout my day cause it’s just…what I do…and I feel weird when I don’t have it next to me. I don’t like smoking, it doesn’t even make me feel good, but I feel very uncomfortable not taking a smoke break, like I don’t know what to do with myself even though I have a bunch of things I could be doing…anyway lol this helped a lot, thank you

It's funny because meditation is what gave me the motivation to quit 🙂. After preparing to attempt to quit( picking the day, accuiring patches, clearing out all smoking paraphernalia like ashtrays etc, searching n saving hypnosis stop smoking videos i was ready) i had great success the first 2 days ( smoked like 1 each day) by day 3 i was up to a couple. Im finding it easier than i thought but still yet to completely stop. This video gave me some revelations. My effort continues because i know i can do this Ive smoked for 45 yrs almost 2 pks a day sometimes. It getting in the way of this spirtual quest i am now on soooo its got to go lol. I didnt realize i was already subscribed to ur channel lol. I mustve watched or have done a meditation on ur channel before. 😊 Wish me strength ❤

Oral fixation. Understanding why some of us have it would be a good start.
@ToddPerelmuter
@ToddPerelmuter Год назад
If oral fixation is the problem, switching to gum would be an easy task. But, there is much more to smoking addiction than oral fixation. Oral fixation, which can have many causes, is always exacerbated by smoking. Smoking doesn't just reinforce the fixation either. It makes it stronger due to the nicotine withdrawal, which creates added stress and anxiety which makes oral fixation worse. The more calm awareness we bring to these fixative impulses, the more we can simply observe them and consciously choose not to act on them.
