Hi Kara, My question is regarding leverage pre-meeting. What is you present an idea to a senior person and he pushes your idea away, saying another approach can be met. How do you deal with that? Should you still share your idea given that person would be in the meeting room??
Great question. I'll admit, this is a tricky situation. If you believe in your idea, I would still raise it in the meeting. You could start by saying, "I've already shared this idea with [name] and he/she feels it can be met with another approach. However, I would like to get a wider variety of opinions on this idea because I feel there is potential there". You just have to make sure you don't offend the senior person.

This is more common than you think. It's not because people want to be rude (most of the time anyway:). It's usually because people are concerned about getting their point across. But if everyone does this, it can make meetings really chaotic and difficult for the quieter ones to get heard. It's great you're stopping people so you can get a word in. Sometimes being assertive about it is the only way. More indirect methods can come from body language - hand gestures to indicate you have something to say. This is a really important topic though so I'll do a future video on it.
