As an aside, I used to have a hell of a time convincing my wife and daughter to keep the doors locked at ALL times. Then, fortunately, we watched a documentary about Richard Ramirez, aka the Night Stalker in LA. With a good number of his victims he simply walked into their houses via unlocked doors. I've had no more issues with the doors being left unlocked.

Yeah I was trying to explain to my wife why I always lock the doors even when I'm home. "Because I'm the one that would be dealing with an intruder!" (And I'd rather not have to)

Luckily I live in a building that has an outer security door before you can get to my front door. Like you Jason, nobody comes over to my apt. without me knowing beforehand. If there is a knock on my door I don't answer right away I do basically what you do and I will have one of my guns on me. Usually if someone is here to see me they know to press the buzzer, and wait for me to answer over the intercom. One time a maintenance guy from the complex just unlocked the door and started to open it without knocking on the front door first. I yelled from my bedroom door for him to freeze, scared the hell out of him. He was going around doing a/c filter changes.

With driveway alarms, security lighting (criminals hate lights) a video doorbell and a couple security cameras, I hope not to be surprised at the door. I question them using the doorbell, if they cover it with anything I still see them on my other cameras. Also have a variety of defensive measures

Thanks for the video. What about adding a small window next to that door? You have plenty of space there to add a window. If you add a window, you could open the window to see and speak to the person at the door. If you put burglar bars on the small window, there's no way for the person to get through the window. That's not a big advantage if the door is unlocked, but if the door is locked, you already have a chance to see the other person. You are already in a good position to have that conversation through the window.

I had a guy show up knocking on my door claiming to be a census worker. I opened a window he couldn't access visibly armed with a pistol in a shoulder holster to talk to him. I told the guy we had not received any notice of census being taken that year, and there had been a lot of break ins in the neighbor hood so he couldn't come in. He asked about my neighbors being around and if the addresses were correct on the mailbox. I answered his questions and then told him he was on private property thus he must leave. The census worker called the cops on me and the cops told him I did nothing wrong. Guns are legal folks and the Feds should learn some manners.

The thing you didn't talk about was a trick to buy time & help create space... with a door that swings inward toward you (as in the examples, you're on the hinge side)... real easy to put your boot against the door & kick it back in the attackers face. That stun effect would buy time to reach up to the side of the frame to grab said weapon. Or it would give you time to get distance and could be the difference to you being able to punch in that 4 digit code or not. Thankfully, I live on a farm. The dogs will tell me if anyone is coming close to the house. They also act as a good deterrent against anyone coming close with ill intent.

Don't do anything in this video or you're going to be a victim or die. If you live in the country your rifle should be by your bed. Your pistol should be in your holster or within close proximity (arms reach) and not in a safe or unloaded. Alway have a plan and alway be training. Be prepared. There are no tricks. I live in the country and I have dogs, but if there's trouble. It's going to be the dogs night off. I'll handle it.

@@rickhunt3183 I live on a 4000 acre cattle farm. The nearest streetlight from my front door is 2miles away. One day, at 1am, there was a knock at my door with a "help, I can't feel my legs." Counter to the advice in the video, I did open the door. I then spent a little over 3 hours keeping the guy alive before the ambulance arrived to collect him. One of the farm hands turned to me afterwards with a "you genuinely scare me with your ability to just get s**t handled." Dogs or no dogs, I'll be fine. I also don't own a firearm.

A police friend told me always answer, don't open. You can say I'm not interested. You have no obligation to open the door. If you don't answer, they may think you are not home. Sometimes a burglar will just kick the from door in. A nice officer rang my bell recently. A UPS package for my wife fell off the truck a few blocks away. He was in uniform & I saw the squad car. In this case, don't answer with a weapon in hand. LOL.

1. Installing a peephole isn't all that expensive. Looking through it BEFORE saying anything most likely keeps you from being shot through the door. If the peephole has been covered from the outside, you know the person outside is up to no good. 2. Gunsafes for defense guns are not a good idea. It's easy to fumble and enter the wrong code. Now what? Keep at least one gun fully loaded and readily accessible TO AN ADULT. My children were taught from an early age that guns are not toys and they should not be touched. They never did. 3. A knife is probably not going to work on multiple intruders. Save the knife for cutting your steak. 4. If you can afford one of those ring cameras or such, get one.

Only two kinds of people come in my house, those with a warrant or those who I know personally.... My house only has 3 ways out and only one way in. lol would love to have someone who has never been in here figure out how to navigate through the house and we keep it dark all the time, all windows have been blackened out. We have other things set and ready to be activated.... Come announced into our home would be fatal! Edit: Never ever stand behind your door, always stand to the side where there are a lot of framing behind the wall giving you more protecting from a gun being fired..... You stand behind your door and they will shoot you through the door killing you instantly.

Hey Brother J. Greetings from Nauvoo. Have you by chance addressed church security issues. A while back, I was in conversation with our local church leader, about security issues. He was all on board until I mentioned the words “security team.” With that he completely shut down and said, “as the ‘leader’, I had rather die on the Stand AND the members die in their seats, from an armed attack, secure in our knowledge that we die in worship of our Lord.” I asked about scriptural teachings that say we should be protectors and defenders of our families? He answered, that does not mean in church worship. If you are going to attempt to defend, use a hymnal or chair and throw them at the attacker.” I have more on that discussion, I would love to hear your thoughts and if you had rather not address it openly here I totally understand. Gotta zip out for a bit, I wanted you to throw this out there for your thoughts.

What do you do if you have no wall there besides the door. I have a walkway that leads to the door on the inside. No wall besides the door. I do have a supporting wall that comes in at a 90-degree angle. So, could you maybe give some pointers, since I can't take cover besides the door where the wall is? I figured that be a good question for other people who might have a different set up like I have. That is on the inside of the doorway. I would appreciate any advice that you could give me. I know I'm asking for free help but I don't know what else to do at this moment and this might save my life one day. And it's unfortunate but there's some people in my family that I don't trust which is unfortunate like I said and they live nearby. So I don't go over to their house. And I definitely don't go to someone's house if I know they have a gun. The person I know I can't trust has multiple guns. And has anger problems. This person has many demons. And my intelligence has paid off it's only thing that has kept me safe throughout my life. I don't have the money to put up a security system to make the outside more safe and secure where I could see from the inside out. But the way my home is set up is actually pretty good I have a drive-in garage with a double gate that goes into a porch and then within the porch area there is my front door from the outside. So just to give you a picture in your mind on what my home is like. That front gate and drive-thru garage gives me security because most people don't go into people's houses where they're front gate is the main entrance. So that has kept me safe were some time now. Was this day and age were times are only getting worse it's not going to last forever and there are times when I don't even feel safe to certain point in my own home. So if you would be kind and be able to give some advice I would appreciate your charity and your efforts on tell me what can I do to better defend myself within the borders of my house. 1:05. I've only gotten a minute into the video and 5 seconds. So I'm really not sure what this video is about or how it can further help me I'm just asking for your advice please help me I need your help. If you can give me advice I'd be very grateful because I know one day this could really save my life. And everyday I always think about my security. I think it allow ways that me and you are a lot alike except for I got a lot less to work with and resources and I wish I was more better prepared but I'm not and that is the truth.. what that is why I look up to a guy like you. You're such a great mentor and a blessing and I thank you. I know God thanks you for the work that you're doing.

Very interesting from a theoretical point of view but... I live in Italy, in a modest 80 m*2 apartment built in the 1990s in a small provincial town. The front door, facing the stairwell, is a class WK4 security door. See: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-L9XQjwpXcQY.html . All the apartments in this building and all those in my neighborhood (which is a working-class neighborhood inhabited by blue-collar and white-collar workers) are equipped with such doors. Each door costs about 4,000 € (for an apartment worth about 140,000 € - 160,000 €). So why do Americans insist on installing cardboard doors and why do they insist on not locking them with a key or deadbolt? Why don't they install cameras or peepholes to check the outside of the door? In addition, there is also a good burglar alarm system in my house. It cost about €1,400. For comparison, a Colt M4, in Italy, costs about 1,500 €.

I wonder if you will throw away your fire extinguisher because your house has never caught fire.

If you have a firearm or weapon , keep the field of view tunnel vision if you can. Some will use pepper spray knowing you could have a gun. That way if you get sprayed you can still fire shots in a blur and they have to go back around the corner or they get shot.

I’ve often thought, wouldn’t it be nice to have tactical exercises like they have line dancing during the week at the senior center just to be able to go through the motions and work out those cobwebs

Don’t answer the door. If you can build a fence around the property 8ft high and wrap wire or put broken glass into the concrete/stucco like in Mexico. Use long deck screws to reinforce external doors. Plant holly or rose bushes near windows for peeping Tom’s. And reinforce the windows with bars or an extra security feature as well.

Have internal security doors with metal frames on your bedroom doors so when you are asleep people can’t get in that’s the best thing you can do

I haven't locked the door in 3 years, EVER, and I don't mix with anyone that would have anything to do with guns. The likelihood of me EVER seeing a gun is target shooting with a sniper rifle (through a friend) or seeing a police officer on the job. I did love precision archery growing up. I've been trained to hit a coin at 200m with a FAMAS Rifle and I can disarm a person approaching me with a knife/bayonet...but I would never place myself in that type of situation which is the best training you can have. The best advice I would give - If you feel you need to know how to do this type of thing - maybe you need to rethink your life.

Home invasions occur more than every 26 seconds in America and more than 250,000 every year suffer violent attacks of great bodily harm or death and increasingly from multiple attackers from two to four attackers together, including at the front door or forced entry at the front door according to federal government statistics published by the FBI and other sources. What to do in the scenario of four attackers of forced entry armed and wearing masks at night when most crimes occur?

Jason, I've been homeless for 3 years. And I haven't met a single person in any of the shelters who felt they needed to hurt someone else to get $ 10. Panhandling? Yes. Definitely. But even then they would ask " the Good Samaritans " for what they truly wanted- a cheeseburger, a shake, etc. I can only speak for Redwood City and maybe East Palo Alto- but before Covid there were so many resources available that there was no need for anyone to break into anything. Like I overspent preparing for yet another art show so today I'm going to St. Anthony's where you get a hot meal, a coffee, a dessert, milk, juice and even veggies and stuff to take home with you! Why would you need to get violent???

Very interesting video. Would not want to live in a paranoia like that. Safe with a gun always few meters from me inside my house...Is it really that bad in USA, or is it artificially blown up, so people stay scared and paranoid? Well, just follow the money, right?

I'm not sure if you received Ninjota or Karate training through your career choice, but you might work on your hexagon, and step to the outside and deflect/block from outside in so they're crossed up and their right side turned while controlling the weapon (Soto Uke). It takes a little more practice but is a lot safer than a squared-off defense exposing your mass (Uchi Uke). I'm married, and sometimes have guests over, but keep near combat sharpened Wakazashi above my door, which looks decorative.

Yes! Nobody mentioned the 21ft rule. Door interactions are always inside that distance, so a blade is always preferred. Wakazashi and tomahawk are very good choices. Both is better! You can distract by throwing the hawk and still be armed with a very deadly blade.

@@TheBoatPirate I almost said I would prefer a blade over a gun within a 15-foot radius, but left it alone since not everyone is trained as well. Blades aren't for the ill-trained or faint of heart.

Knife on the door frame edge great idea. Could also hinge the top door frame edging and have a knife or pistol behind it. Of course they make tons of hidden compartments in just about anything
