Why do we all keep buying more and more bikes? The Standert Pfadfinder allows to set it up for Gravel as well as for Road. Maybe it is time to sell the other bikes and make this the only ride. Or maybe not?

Like others said, the quest is part of the fun!! I've spent all of last winter hunting fordeals on parts and slowly building up my bike and when it was all put together there was this joyful moment of "Yay! let's ride!" quickly followed with "Okay, now what?". I'm building a winter specific bike to deal with our Canadian winters and it's going to be a fun build but then again, what's next!! I think getting into building bikes for friends who are not that mechanically inclined might be a cure to this "problem"...
@klein-concept

Very well put. What next ... The answer could always be to go and ride but somehow building is always very tempting. Initially i planned to build some bikes and then sell them to friends at the component cost but most of the time i fall in love with the builds and keep them 😂😂

I’ve recently built up a steel frame with dura ace 7800. And 34mm tyres. It’s my daily drive to work and I spend most of my time on in. I have a dogma 65,1 too. Full carbon 10 years old but still super bling. In the long run steel frames are more useful for most people.

This bike actually is not a gravel bike. According to their website it is an all road endurance bike. And it is true, you won't need multiple bikes. Something like the Pfadfinder can be good for everything, but the extremes. If you are into road racing you might want to have a designated bike for that and same goes for proper gravel, single track and off road bike packing. But for the majority of people an endurance all road bike made of the steel is the best option.
@klein-concept

Ah you are right. When i bought it it was still in the gravel category. But makes sense to call it an all road endurance one.

I've been a happy owner of a Standert Pfadfinder for almost two weeks. What can I say... I've ridden almost 500km on it now and damn the bike rides well. Fast and comfy even at long distances. I have now accumulated three bikes. A steel fixed gear and a carbon gravel bike. The carbon gravel bike will probably leave the family as I am more than happy with my remaining two steel bikes. But I never say never to an additional steel bike... A Standert Triebwerk, a Kettensäge or even a Erdgeschoss for rough stuff could make me weak 😏

If you are any sort of serious cyclist who rides regularly you always need at least two bikes. Often one bike is out of commission because of some sort of maintenance especially if you are waiting for parts that you have ordered. Then if you want to ride you switch to bike #2. That's just for road and gravel, if you ride MTB as well you need at least another bike for that!

Specialized used to make this amazing 1 3/4 inch tire called Crossroads in the 1980s (there have been versions with this name but not the same at all). It had a centre band of raised rubber with a little texture on it about 1 cm wide that was solid and relatively slick plus knobby sides. Rolled very fast on the road but could handle pretty soft dirt. I’ve never seen a tire like it, often they’re a slick centre channel on these hybrid tires but this one was raised. With new compounds and other new tire tech it would be a do it all tire.
@klein-concept
@klein-concept 9 месяцев назад
It sounds very similar to the new Specialized Pathfinder tire. If i would decide to go for some more gravel adventures again i think this would be the tire i would go for as one of the riders in our group was riding it and had no problems with the deep sandy segments.

@Yocambio
@Yocambio 9 месяцев назад
Easy answer. Bare minimum is 2 bikes: one road, one gravel. Today I have a Cannondale Synapse and a 3T Exploro. But what I'm finding is the limit of the 3T in terms of "gravel" use and have realised that a mountain bike is in order - most likely a hard-tail 29er - for those times when the "gravel" becomes single track and technical. Of course, it's possible to craft a gravel bike that works better in those conditions but since I already have a gravel bike it's easier to just add the MTB to the quiver.
@klein-concept
@klein-concept 9 месяцев назад
All makes sense to me. Curious to hear what you will say about that MTB and the fun factor it might bring along. I currently still have too much respect for these technical segments 🫣
@Yocambio
@Yocambio 9 месяцев назад
@@klein-concept - I sold my 29er before moving to Spain in 2021. At the time I had a dedicated road bike, a commuter bike and the MTB. So when I got the 3T my first reaction was how much faster and more responsive it is compared to the 29er. But I gradually realised that performance came at the cost of scaring the hell out of myself on technical sections where the 29er would have been calm and composed, particularly on descents.

@@Msgr300 i didnt know about that brand. Thanks for the tip. Will give them a look. Maybe it will be time to sell at least one bike to make space for a titanium one.

Please don't do anymore "one bike" videos. My wife might see them. LOL! Seriously though, that is one sweet bike.

That’s sad it’s outfitted with shitmano. Sram etap would have been a great ride. I’d strip the bike down and start over again….

€2000 on a piece of art would also be enjoyable but would not need servicing and would appreciate and not depreciate. Perhaps it depends how much time you spend cycling and chilling at home with a piece of art you love in view.

Sell them all and get a gravel bike….just do it. Road is dead brother and so is rim brake, unless you plan on having a museum of bikes as a momentum to how great bikes were once upon a time
@klein-concept
@klein-concept 9 месяцев назад
Hehe ... yea i dont know. I also like the simplicity of rim brakes. But that new Standert Triebwerk that i ordered will also be disc. 🫣
