Super late but those are tuning slides on the trumpet! They do affect the tone and aid in fixing any sort of sharp/flat leaning sound, especially the big slide on the front. The lever-looking things are to empty out spit, you hold them open and blow. And finally, the middle valve is simply stuck, not broken. Unscrew the circle underneath the moving part, lift out the valve, lubricate it with valve oil, place it back in the shell, twist it until it clicks into place, then screw the circle back on and it should freely move again. Sincerely, a music major :)

The comic hit me like a brick because one time I tried to point out where a place was for my mom and instead of pointing right- I confidently pointed left.
