So I'm currently going through this same surgery. The first two weeks were so immensely painful and I'm finally recovering. It's extremely hard to talk and I mostly lay around all day trying not to move too much. But then I randomly remembered that one of my favourite RU-vidrs actually made a video on this and I'm back here to reminisce :)

So I'm 1 week post op of double jaw surgery and will probably be wired shut for about 6 weeks as well. It's like almost 3am right now I woke up from just being miserable and in pain at 1am. I was trying to get comfortable and fall back asleep. Someone shared this video on my jaw surgery group on Facebook. . . Rally needed this lol. It made me feel so much better and was so relatable🎉

I was born with an underbite and I’ve known since I was 9 I was getting surgery when I turned 17-18. My aunt went through the same thing and had her mouth wired shut for a couple of weeks. For these last couple of years I have been mentally and physically preparing myself to be on those damn boost it drinks. I’m going to start manifesting lots of chocolate milk in my future.

I know how this feels. In my family this gene passed itself on from my mom to me. I had a level 3 out of 4 overbite. I turned out wearing a mask to school for years because I was embarrassed about the way I talked and looked. I never experienced much pain however because they started fixing it while I was still growing. Instead of getting a surgery and my jaw wired shut, I had this awesome metal monstrosity put in my mouth. 😃 It’s called a forsus appliance. Back in the day my mom got something similar to this called a herbst appliance. The forsus appliance attached to my bottom row canines and my top row very back molars. There is a big bar that goes from the top down to bottom row and it essentially slowly forces your jaw forward until it just gets used to it and grows like that. I was really lucky I didn’t have to get my jaw broken in the surgery. The first doctor I ever went to told me that was the only option but I begged to differ as my mom had told me about her experience. I went to another orthodontist who was willing to do it. It is A LOT more painless and plus I got straight teeth along with it. 😁

Yes. Living vicariously works. I've had to do it when I couldn't eat because of long term health problems. My fav was the little Italian lady making her native food from scratch. x)

As a disabled person who had surgery like this, I can relate to this.. I had my bad teeth pulled out because it was so painful.. It prevented me from eating hard food, hard snacks.. Until I got a surgery! It went so successful and now I can eat normally again!
