I hated how they killed off the girl just so the woman could have the baby. Not only was it predictable but it was just really almost disrespectful and unfair.

Im an atheist, but I love your reviews. They remind me that not all Christians are blind to their fellow humans who hold different beliefs. To hear a Christian defend me feels good. You stand up for people who are constantly standing up for themselves, feeling like they aren't being understood. You make me feel understood.

In the right hands, that Christian version of Birdman could be awesome. Imagine a beat up, jaded Willie Ames (or however you spell his name) feeling convicted to put together a good Christian film that has a little bit of edge and a great message that doesn't beat you over the head. Because it's subtle and risky, no Christian studio is excited to get behind the film. So the entire film (shot to look like it was filmed in one take) is about Willie Ames using his last remaining resources to try and get the film made while dealing with personal demons, his relationship with God, the Christian/Conservative media, and the ever growing urge to sell out to a whole new level and try to reboot Bibleman.

the problem with a medic or rescue servant proselytizing to anyone is partly because people dont care, but its mostly problems with, "Is this guy just going to preach to me about hell and heaven INSTEAD of providing me care and trying to rescue me?" there have been many instances of people not doing thier jobs to preach about the afterlife. And while you mean well, its ILLEGAL and DISRESPECTFUL. what if someone came to you, in youre dying moments who COULD have saved you or done something, INSTEAD thinks "this person has no hope might as well save thier soul" and preaches to you about Allah and the prophet muhammad and that cause youre christian allah is going to burn you in hell forever but if you accept allah youll swim among the stars? so no the problem isnt the cross or getting caught. its "do you want your last thoughts in this world to be about threats of more suffering or do you want to be comforted and cared for?" simple as that. While kevin covers a good point that people are offended at it, he doesnt make it aware its ILLEGAL and can cost you your job and allot of money

The racial stereotypes are awful! Why do the black people have to be the gangsters? Why does the Latino girl have to be pregnant and homeless? I can't stand to watch any PureFlix movie, they make me want to scream!

What a self-righteous, pretentious jerk. I watched the movie for the first time today while having seen the review beforehand. I had to stifle laughs remembering it while everyone else was crying. Especially during the crash scene.

Well, at least we can say that this movie is... somewhat better than _God's Not Dead._ I haven't even seen _Crash_ yet and I knew that this movie was ripping it off. But that ending though. I mean, people make fun of _Return of the King_ for having a really long ending; at least that didn't have a poorly-delivered voiceover monologue for its entirety.

Not gonna lie. I haven't seen this movie, but I'm pretty sure I enjoyed your review WAY more than I would have enjoyed the actual film. Great work, Kevin! There are many movies whose message I may not 100% agree with, but which succeed mainly because of AMAZING screen writing. *Distractedly goes and watches "V for Vendetta"*

Great review as usual! I work in full time ministry and anytime I ever dare say I'm not a huge fan of these PureFlix movies you'd think I just denounced my faith right there on the spot. They (church people) just don't seem to realize that they're being sold to, be it little plastic crosses with tracts or small group curriculum.

There are definitely good or even excellent movies that have lots of Christian themes that aren't expressly Christian-- * Lord of the Rings (Tolkien was a devout Catholic) *The Chronicles of Narnia *Chariots of Fire (a classic!) *The Tree of Life *Prince of Egypt (brings back memories) *Les Miserables (the 1998 version with Liam Neeson) Christianity Today reviews lots of movies like this. As I have said before, I find that stereotypically Christian movies are too hammy. And not in the tasty way (like Jim Carrey). Also, why the explosion? Did Michael Bay have a part in this?

What is up with these movies and having the old homeless guy who has a terminal illness turn out to be a guardian angel?? It's really becoming predictable, and the "subtle" hints aren't doing a lot to help.

Really enjoyed this! From a technical production side, it looks like the movie was actually pretty good. It's the writing that's just awful. If they'd use that 64 million to hire some decent writers and actors, this could actually be something. Probably won't happen though. I do think you were a bit harsh on the filmmakers though... I think the people who made the movie had good enough intentions, they just suck at making movies. That said, I do think that the marketing team, and Pureflix as a company, does deserve every bit of criticism you dished out.

Wow...I just noticed that they just axed off EVERY single African-American in this flick. I mean, not to be hyper-critical, but this movie looks less like the movie Crash and more like a zombie flick. Just replace zombies with the Final Destination Death Force.

The way most Christian films portray non-believers reminds me of how Stephen King portrays Christians in some of his novels. Just a bunch of evil, angry, curmudgeons, who are constantly angry at people who believe differently.

This is probably the best say movie night yet. I had a pretty good ratio of a laugh every five minutes, you hit the beats perfectly. It's something about those Pure Flix movies, man. There's always just so much shoddy screenwriting to enjoy. I am absolutely stoked to see Gods Not Dead 2 when that finally hits theaters next year.

First of all your music references are amazing! Second, the LOTR references were spot on and hilarious. Third, my FAVORITE line from the entire thing: "Then we end with a Newsboys song, because apparently they sold their soul to Pure Flix." (I miss the old newsboys so much) I also agree that films like these keep portraying non Christians as the enemy or bad guys, but aren't these films supposed to be a ministry? If you're trying to reach out to non Christians, you're not going to win them over that way. Anyway, good job Kevin! *thumbs up*

I haven't seen this movie, but I think the biggest thing I would say about it, if I took the time to watch it and then made my own review, is that, giving like all the characters little crosses (or big crosses) feels like its trying to be symbolic. But its not symbolism. Its just kind of literally a cross. Thats not symbolism thats just giving all the characters the same prop. What. Why can't Christian films at least try to be subtle?

It's time for the Christian film genre to actually get stories that both great plot and preach their message of faith without it's characters coming off as unlikeable. In fact, here's a list of films that do this better than this movie, God's Not Dead, Persecuted and other modern day Christian films do:1.) The Ten Commandments2.) Jesus of Nazareth3.) The Greatest Story Ever Told4.) Spartacus5.) Ben-Hur6.) The Robe7.) Quo Vadis 8.) King Of Kings9.) The Prince of EgyptKeep in mind, all the movies listed excluding the last one on the list were made in the 50's and 60's, an era which if I'm correct wasn't all too tolerant of faiths other than Christianity. Those movies actually portrayed it's characters as likeable, the plots were believable, the stories were given plenty of care and most importantly of all they were Christian movies that actually got the message across without promoting through the mouths of unsympathetic, unlikeable jackasses or rely heavily on plot contriences to get their point across and treated their audience, whether they were belivers, non-belivers or those of other faiths with more respect than the new Christian crap that's being churned out as of late. These actually portrayed Christianity in a positive light and actually did so without whacking the audience over the head with it like modern Christian movies do and doing the opposite of what it's supposed to do. In addition, they are movies that I would happily watch again because, to me at least, they're terrific movies that were given lots of care, even if some of the acting may seem a bit dated if not outright cheesy. And I myself am a person who wasn't born when most of these movies were made yet actually watched them.In short, movies that were made so long ago about Christianity manage to do better than modern day films about the same religion. The fact that the new stuff being released doesn't even take or even look at the figurate books of success those movies have done is just downright pathetic.For those of you who want to make Christian movies in the future, do this one thing. Do not emulate God's Not Dead, Do You Believe?, Persecuted, 90 Minutes In Heaven and most of the Christian movies produced during the 1990s and 2000s. Look at the movies I just mentioned, analyze them, study them and pay close attention to how they go about talking about Christianity. Use likeable characters to spread the message, do not portray the characters who aren''t Christians terribly, feature a Christian whose an obvious jackass as an example of how not to act and spread your message as though you actually care about your audience's intelligence.And most importantly, don't create unlikeable, unsympathetic jackass characters like Joss Wheaton, blatant strawman caricatures like Professor Jeffery Raddison or pastors like Reverend Jude and Pastor Dave. If you can do that, you might be able to save this genre.For those of you who wish to and will try to save it, I wish you good luck.

I had no desire to actually watch this film so I thought hey, why not just watch Kevin's review? Your reviews are pretty much the only way I watch Christian movies anymore, and rightfully so. So fun and right on!! The ending was hilarious, trying to finish up while the endless voiceover went on and on. It struck me how upset Christians would be if atheists had a film company and made movies about atheists convincing Christians to not believe in God and then painting themselves as the victims whenever possible. It would be ridiculous, yet we think it's totally fine the other way around. Why can't Christian movies simply be about Christians and their lives, and situations they face, instead of it all being a big in-your-face sermon? Maybe one day.
