+Robert Bones I usually do wash at least once, if not twice a week. This is indeed a trade off, as exposure to the dryer fatigues cloth. The alternative is just as bad though. The chemicals in sweat, actually destroy cloth over time. As well as the bacteria they harbor. Letting clothes grow funky in the hamper, is akin to letting them rot over time. The compounds attack clothe chemically, while the bacteria explode upon these. They then literally eat your fabrics.
@robertbones326
@robertbones326 8 лет назад
Schralenberger Lol your sweat destroys cloth? What are you a Xenomorph? You may be right but for clothes that I need to keep in top condition I just hang up and air out. They seem fine to me. I try to avoid getting sweaty in clothes I like.
@Schralenberger
@Schralenberger 8 лет назад
+Robert Bones Nothing so dramatic. The exposure of your clothes to acids and bacterium , is much akin to that of exposing your tooth enamel. You don't get cavities overnight. They're achieved through repeated exposure. Leaving your clothes stew over a week or more, is much akin to not brushing. Both lead to over exposure to acids and bacterium(and with your clothes, salt from your sweat as well.). Prolonged overexposure takes a greater toll. The fibers are first weakened(by being gradually eaten away at), then fray out prematurely. It's not a problem, if your approach is not to worry and just replace them. If you want reasonably long wear though; you have to arrest the process at a reasonable point.

He goes off subject here a bit I don't wanna no why sweat smells I just wanna no how often I should wash my clothes haha
@Dloweification
@Dloweification 8 лет назад
+ShaneStanley109 Every day you lazy ass. He does consider potential drip from shaking, floor "whatever" from when you sit down to poop, ass sweat sharing from public chairs, fart collection, etc. Not to mention the people around you will eventually notice if you continually wear the same pair of jeans every day and think you're dirty. I personally just make sure I have enough clothes for one week, so that way I can throw em in the wash on the weekend and start out fresh again. If you can't afford that, make sure you have enough clothes for one full load of laundry (at least) then do the load when you need to.
@cjzanders5430
@cjzanders5430 8 лет назад
+ShaneStanley109 - Exactly. And then he says that towels get dirty fast but he didn't say which towels. Face towels you wash your entire body with, dry towels you wash your hands with in the bathroom, towels you dry your entire body with after you are clean after a bath, or towels that you use when you sweat at a basketball game.
@cjzanders5430
@cjzanders5430 8 лет назад
+Dloweification - Everyday actually contradicts how often he said you should wash your jeans. 6 months to a year was actually brought up. Jeans do not have to be cleaned everyday. I prefer style a bit more. And no, I've been out on a ton of dates without washing my jeans for days and days, and they don't smell bad at all.

Humans with normal immune systems, by that I mean regular people who don't work in any risky professions, probably shouldn't worry too much about anything other than smell. Isn't all the washing something that contributes to the rise of allergies and immune sensitivity related illnesses?
@AssClappicus
@AssClappicus 9 лет назад
+MaxFist classic hippie. more like the other way around.
@teehee1604
@teehee1604 9 лет назад
+MaxFist You're talking about the hygiene hypothesis there, which states that overcleanliness may contribute to improper development of the immune system, which may in turn explain the rise in incidence of hypersensitivity disorders, including allergies. The idea is that a lack of immune stimulation early on in life means the response to innocuous triggers may then be amplified inappropriately. Firstly, this is a hypothesis, not a theory. The evidence base for it is patchy at the moment, so should not be taken as truth. Although it's a very interesting idea which is being explored as we speak, it's not something we can hang our hats on just yet. Secondly, the important part here is that it only applies to the period in which the immune system is developing, i.e. the first year or so of life. Washing your clothes or disinfecting your kitchen is not going to cause you to develop asthma in your mid-20s!
@navtium
@navtium 9 лет назад
I made a bit of a jump there, what I meant is neatly encapsulated in the part before that. If you have an immune system that works normally it is perfectly capable of dealing with microbes and shit without the need to disinfect everything all the time forever. The main problem with that is that it is impossible to kill all bacteria/fungi/barnacles as some will be resistant to whatever you are using, this can lead to development of more resistant barnacles that need harsher treatments and are potentially more deadly that the ones that were originally there... in short, you don't have to live in a sterile bubble if you aren't immunocompromised.

Rule of thumb: 1) Wash jeans after 1 week 2) Wash t-shirts and hoodies after 2 days (or after your work out) 3) collect socks/underwear over the week and then wash em (one pair of socks + underwear only for ONE day!)
@stensoft
@stensoft 8 лет назад
Really good and cheap agent for cleaning your clothes (and killing all the bacteria) is sodium percarbonate. It's actually the active ingredient in all of the ‘oxygen action’ products and is way cheaper when bought without the fancy brand name on it (around €1 per kg). Just be careful: it removes really, really well not just stains and bacteria but also colours. So for white clothes only.

Shirts I wash after one wear and buy new when they break or look bad. Jeans I give a rinse when I feel the need for and a wash every so often when they look dirty usually 1-2 months. Other types of trousers I was when they look dirty. I don't wash clothes that often I just have a fair bit of clothes and can go at least three weeks without washing and still have a fair selection of clothes to wear.

I got some sort of genital zits in college and I went to my Dr. in a panic, thinking I had picked up an STD. Dr. said it was a reaction to my towel being hung in our damp dorm shower stalls. He said it was more commonly encountered in tropical conditions. Yay, no STD's. Boo hiss communal stalls.

It really depends on you, I mean your body reaction to heat and your lifestyle. If you are somewhat non-sweeter and have a really calm life, like no walking for long periods, doing desk job and so on, your clothes should last two to three days. On the other hand if you are a person who sweats a lot, or lives in a hot place, and do intense activity. Probably everyday. IMO, it depends on my perception, I don't like wearing the same shirt twice in row, so I change them everyday, I keep them in a chair which I may use later in the week after one week I wash them, while jeans can be worn for at least 4 days straight since they are all too similar , I have a friend who have this moto 'if a jeans is not proven dirt, it's clean', he wears it until it get stain from something or starts to smell. Underwear should be changed every time you take a shower, it's really weird to put used underwear after having a shower. Socks? Smell test all the way. If your shoes is new they can last for 3~4 days. Jackets, and over-clothes can last for several weeks or even months if they are not in contact with your skin, specially if you are using along with long sleeved shirts. Some heavy jackets, like heavy windbreakers, I wash once a year because they are only used over several layers of clothes and not for long time, no oil/sweet/skin ever get in contact with them, and they are so easy to clean spills that a simple wash cloth can remove any stain, I wash those usually when it starts to get cold, because they stay in the wardrobe for the whole summer/spring that they start to get a bit of smell of mold (the downside of living a humid place).

"Not the only thing you should be washing more than you probably do"? Pajamas? Are there really people who go more than a week without washing pajamas? I would think those are higher on the "to wash" list simply because you spend up to 8 hours in a row in them (and that's if you change right away) every day. Myself, I rotate pajamas roughly twice a week.

Phssssssht, science thinks it knows all. Listen people, we have had rules forever about this. For guys, in terms of wears. Underwear: Twice MAX! Socks: Twice MAX unless you know you don't have to remove your shoes then maybe you can swing 3 times. Shirts: This is the most variable article of clothing, it depends on your activities in said shirt but it can last 2-4 wears. Pants: 3 times to a 10. There, I solved all your clothing problems in one 30 second read and I won't even make money off of it. (Girls you'll need your own clothes Guru as my experience is limited).

With jeans, it is not just a question of style, but also of longevity. The more often that you wash them the more they will fade and the more quickly they will ware out. If it is just a question of bacteria, sticking them in a plastic bag and putting them in the freezer will kill the bacteria.

Clothes aren't meant to last forever. Levi's aren't meant to last forever either. If you are an adult male and you move about during your day you may work up a sweat. Do yourself a favor and wash your body and your clothes often. Your clothes may not stink after a week's wear but they will surely smell musty. Wash your clothes regularly and bathe every day using lots of soap and for heaven's sake use a deodorant. If you shower or bathe regularly and rinse yourself thoroughly your towels should last for at least 4 days. Buy good towels and wash cloths; not the ones that are a thin as cigarette papers. Pamper yourself and your partner will appreciate it.

Douglas Anderson Most dermatologists agree that we overbathe. Skin cleans itself pretty well so we really only need a full shower like once or twice a week. For hygiene though just rinse off on days when you don't take full showers and just scrub the aforementioned stinky bits (aka armpits and groin) with soap. We also wash our hair too much, once or twice a week is enough for people without really oily scalps.

I get a good deal of condensation on the inside of my hiking jacket, despite the garment being made of a "technical" fabric that is supposedly "breathable". (Huh! Who do they think they're kidding?) Thing is, I'm presuming the moisture arrived on the inner surface of the jacket in vapour form, having evaporated from my skin as sweat, passed through the intermediate layers of clothing, and then condensed on the cold surface. Surely, the evaporation is the equivalent of a distillation process, meaning the water inside my jacket is not SWEAT as such, but distilled water and therefore free of contaminants, or anything to support bacteria? Neither can it get skin contaminants because of those intermediate layers keeping my skin out of contact.. [??] Certainly the condensation seems pretty much clean and odour free... I just wipe it off with a towel and let the jacket dry inside out. And while I wish it didn't get wet inside, the jacket does NOT smell, not even a little bit.

He's saying that towels should be washed only after they were used AT LEAST three times (thus if you wash them after, say, 20 uses it's perfectly okay because it was used AT LEAST 3 times.) I know it's a bit pedantic but shouldn't be something like "no more than every after 3 times used?"
@Justin-oo3bh
@Justin-oo3bh 8 лет назад
+CUMBICA1970 I think he meant "advise washing towels *after only* three uses", swapping the two words in the sentence makes it work with little changing so maybe it was just a slip up on words.

The numbers shown in the lower left corner of the video references the footnotes located in the description below the video. Each reference has a link for the information (scientific, statistical, etc.) backing up the statement made at that particular point of the video.

I sleep nude, and have uniforms at work that we pay a company to wash for us. So I hardly ever do laundry. I put clothes on, spend probably about 5 minutes walking to work and then take them off again, same at the end of the day. Then I get home, close my bedroom door, turn the ac on, and take my clothes off. So basically I'm nude all the time. So I wear all my clothes multiple timesbefore washing them. So I go a long time before hitting the laundromat. Oh, and did I mention that I only shower once a week with water only? I only ever use soap on my hands, but never anywhere else. Works for me.

Call Me Swivel Hips If you sleep in the nude then you change your bed sheets more often, I presume
@callmeswivelhips8229

Nope, I don't see a need for that. But then again, I don't sleep on a mattress or sheets either...just a set of wool felts on a piece of wood with a couple of blankets.

No I've just optimized my living situation. People do so many unecessary things because convention. Things that don't accomplish nearly as much good as they think they do.

There is no moment when it becomes TOO dirty to wash, as mentioned in the video as soon as you wear it, in about a week it will stink.

Sorry sonny Jim, can't do that -- wash my pants rarely. I feel warm all the time, especially my mid area, read crotch, have to wear shorts also in autumn and spring to avoid sweat flowing down my legs like a river. Hence in just a few days time the pants smell like sweat like crazy and I need to throw them in the washimashi. Anyone else wit me?
