Oh Ann, my love, a big, beautiful life is waiting for you beyond this nightmare! My mother was in exactly the same situation. She was married 4 times, all abusive, and the last one was a 22 year marriage. One day, after a particularly brutal encounter, she decided to leave. She contacted Catholic Charities who helped her find housing (income adjusted to live on her social security check). She reached out to family to help her quietly move one day. Now, a year later, she's the happiest I've ever seen her. She has friends. She has confidence. She's getting therapy. She GLOWS! You can do this, Ann. You deserve more.

For the lady quitting weed. I just did it a 3 months ago!! You have to have a big "why" !! I went 24hrs. Hit the bowl once. 48 hours. Hit the bowl once. 72 hours. Hit the bowl once. Then after 96 hours I stopped. And lemme tell you. You are about to dream lmao. I smoked 3 sometimes 9 times a day for 9 years. The dreams i had when i quit were wild. Things i had not thought about in years. High school, old jobs. Etc. I was forced to cope with everything I had pushed to the wayside for years. Im sorry... But you can do this.

My mother was the same, very physically ,verbally and emotionally abusive behind doors, and put a mask when people from the outside where around. Best thing I've ever did to heal, grow and move forward was cutting up contact with her. After two years of cutting off contact with her she has manipulated everyone to think that the reason I cut contact with her is beause I'm an ungrateful, spoiled and bad child. So I not only mourn her loss but also everyone that turned against me because of my desicion of healing and getting better.

I am there with you sister! I had to cut my mom out because she have been mentally and physically abusive to me. When I got married, I lived in this fantasy that our relationship would some how be fixed. But, because of that fantasy it started to affect my marriage and ultimately I had to cut her out....it was not easy because I lived in that for soo long. Now, all my siblings are also against me and had also cut me out. Overall, I didn't know how heavy this weigh on me until I walked away. It's been 2 yrs since but, it is all soo worth it...my husband and children gets the full me and I wouldn't have never known my worth if I didn't do this. Not going to let that pass on to my children, it stops here.

Grew up the same… everyone spoke so highly of her and behind closed doors we were “brats” or “animals” yelling that as she banged the cabinets saying it over and over, she never should of had kids! How could I honor that? I placated, made her laugh and did as I was told; only to carry that into my adulthood, submitting to abusive behaviors and trying to figure out why. Digging deeper, reading and listening to all the experts, most esp Dr John has revealed so much truth. Thankful 💛

I swear the finger-breaking husband KNEW that he had chosen the perfect moment for that. These people KNOW how to get away with abuse. They abuse the decency of other people. That's how it works. Don't beat yourself up for falling into a trap of a manipulative person. That's like blaming yourself for being stung by an angry wasp. Did you put the wasp on your hand? No. You can only go from there and move to a wasp-free place as best and as fast as you can.

She’s been hiding the ugliness for years and rationalizing and she needs a clear picture of what it is … when you say it out loud to someone else … sometimes it clicks that this is not normal or okay. When you are abused, your thinking becomes skewed in that you don’t see things clearly and don’t trust yourself. He’s a professional… he knows what he’s doing… there is a purpose for her benefit.

Dr. Dobson did NOT encourage anyone to stay in an abusive marriage! He does admit that children fair better in a home with their mother and father however he specifically excluded cases of abuse. She must have missed the entire book in order to get this picture from any of his content. Dr Dobson was my lifeline and tie to reality in my own story.

John, I know you’re advertising for Better Help and that they offer off-camera options. But as a pastoral-counselor-in-training who is being trained by an experienced PhD, trained in EFT and other modalities, an expert in attachment theory… and also as someone who has worked with clients both on and off screens… so much is lost when you can’t see the client. I had a client for months (since last year), and last week I asked her to turn her camera on for the first time, and something clicked for me that I hadn’t noticed before. Telling people they don’t need to be on screen is hamstringing the therapist’s ability to do their job fully. Not seeing the client was never possible before, and it should not be an option except for really bad connections.
@evachalupa6459
@evachalupa6459 Месяц назад
You're not considering some aspects of this. Of course it is ideal to see the client. BUT. There are enough people who have so severe social anxiety, that they would never go to an in-person setting or even an online one with the camera on. For those people, a no-screen offer can be life saving, as it allows them to put a foot into a healing environment. Of course it's not ideal, but it's so much better than nothing and a significant milestone to a better way forward!! Therapy is not about the therapists.

she probably shouldn’t be getting pregnant a month after quitting years of daily marijuana use... if she ever relapses it will be detrimental to the baby’s brain development. Maybe quit for a year and then when you’ve been clean you should try to get pregnant. Not to mention it is horrible to be high around your child because you would be mentally absent from them and cause the child psychological issues.

I am that 3rd caller 😅 minus the drugs causing the issue. I don’t use this word lightly, but my father is a functioning and super intelligent narcissist, and is also deeply paranoid (government, powerful people, etc monitoring him), the markets revolve around his actions, and to top it off, he was emotionally, mentally, and occasionally physically abusive- while having moments of clarity and normalcy where I forgave and tried to have a normal relationship… until the crazy seeped out again shortly after. I used to laugh about his web of crazy until I knew the laughing came from a sad place. You probably need to walk away. I’ve had the same pain as long as you have, from 6 years old. Phase him out, friend, and find a counselor because I’m sure he left wreckage behind.

I might have an unpopular opinion but I luv smoking my weed. I have been on weed for at least 20 years and it is the only “meds” I take. I went to another country and was not able to smoke up to 6 weeks. I was totally fine. To me weed is better then taking anything else including; Xinex, Zoloft, alcohol or anything else which I don’t. I don’t see any reason to change that in my personal situation.

Don't misread this keyboard warriors: Ann has a pattern of running her mouth and hiding behind "Christian" values, her husband should be in jail for physical abuse, but the other story of pushing away a friend of 35 yrs due to being 'out of God's will' and calling her out... maybe you should practice more Christian love instead of Judgement.

If you’ve ever had trauma in this manner, you don’t know all the ways people will push others away to get any kind of self-defense and protection to not get hurt again… no matter if she still has a relationship with her abuser. Isolation of the abused is manipulation of the abuser. Think about her experience as brainwashing. She will not escape without patterns.
