If I had found a scorpion in my sewing area, I would have displayed for everyone a few inanimate scorpion body parts (slightly flattened)…I admire your restraint, for the good of the ecosystem, lol!😜❤
That little jacket is just perfect for a wee girl!! I also finally tackled my unfinished projects boxes and I am down to three pieces now. Running out of ideas, so that is why I watch your amazing videos. Inspirational!
Double guilty here, I am actually dealing with my mending pile as we speak! Am I procrastinating a little bit? Maybe just a tad by seeing notification come up and seeing your comment :) but I am getting it done one patched hole at a time :)
This was a good reminder and motivation for the upcoming long weekend for me. :D Also LOVE the cute decorations for the buttons on the jacket! I would happily wear that in adult size, haha
Right? Me too! I spotted those buttons since the first episode, where I was doing decluttering, so I had my eye on them and then of course I forgot about them until I went to put the snaps BACK into the basket, and then the idea came to me. I did think to maybe leave them off, so that way the jacket goes with everything a bit easier, but I do think that the result is super cute! I am happy this video gave you a bit of motivation :)
I got a new baby grandaughter coming in April I got so many projects started but not finished. I must just sit and focus and work through them all one at a time. I did get one little dress finished today though. You have inspired me ❤
Congratulations on the Grand Baby! I totally hear you - I sew for my little one mostly on the weekends, together with her (she's 5) and anything that needs a lot of concentration, or maybe a technique that I haven't done in a while and I just need an hour of total silence - I have to put it aside to finish up later. She is a great helper though - she cuts the paper pattern out after I am done drafting it. Her latest obsession is helping me ironing, which of course we need to be very careful about, but she loves it. I hope when Your Grand Baby is a bit older you will share many crafty memories :)
Oh I really understand about the trouble with snaps or grommets that I have to pound. I end up using sew on snaps because I just don't feel like I can get the other kind to work at all consistently. Also, you are braver than I going back in the room with a scorpion!
Loved the video, I don’t have unfinished projects because I just started sewing recently and kinda obsessive when I start a project and hunts me until I finish it lol but I love all your videos and there is always something to learn or be inspired by in them ❤❤❤❤
I just moved in December so I did a lot of deculturing while packing, and I've yet to fully unpack because I'm overwhelmed didn't realize I had so stuff until packing it up. (Even after deculturing) But I will organize as I unpack. 4:06 - NOPE! I would freak out and have to burn my home down. I'm so glad there are no scorpions in Massachusetts.
My UFOs are in plastic shoe boxes.... stacked up...and up. My goal for this year is to finish the UFOs and my quilt wishlist projects. Your video is a super reminder... don't forget the shoe boxes. I finished one of the quilt tops in my wishlist last night...now it is time for a shoe box. Thanks for the friendly reminder to help me get things done.
Your daughter's jacket came out so cute. 😍 Thank you for all the great advice. I'm still in the process of switching rooms. After watching your videos, I decided to organize some things as I pack it up. That way, as I'm setting thing back up, I'll know where I'll need to put them. I even found some things I forgot I had. 😅 I'm half way done. 😊
This is so smart Anita - to organize as you pack, saves time and space, too, as you are able to weed out some supplies that you don't need. I am happy this series brought you inspiration! :)
It kind of looks like steel blue color, doesn't it? I was hoping for the color to pop a bit, but you're right - it is better than before :) so it's a win! :)
We don’t get that many scorpions in the south! I’ve only seen one in the bathroom of a state park in the mountains. I had no idea they lived in colder areas. I have a basket of alterations/repairs I need to tackle after I finish a quilting project.
We saw the first one, in a cereal cabinet, in the kitchen the first year we moved out here. It was SO bizarre! My husband would not believe me until he saw it himself!
When I saw you walking to the scorpion in your stocking feet it made me cringe because my husband actually got stung by a scorpion through his sock when he was walking around the house. Obviously you knew where the scorpion was. Love your video today. That's on my list to do as well. Toooooo many ideas in my head. Got to reduce.
All of my sewing projects are currently unfinished projects. Life happened and I just can't get back to them 😭. I'm hoping 2025 will be my year for finally getting to spend the time on it. 2024 is not shaping up that way. P.S. the denim jacket is absolutely gorgeous inside and out!
I know sometimes i just need to be ALONE so i can get my projects finished because when i have my kids around and my husband i am ALWAYS BUSY. Right now i have a big rectangular laundry basket that has projects that need completing and i cant seem to find the time 😖
Yesssss.... I just wrote the same under another comment. Sometimes I just need an hour of total silence so I can knock these out quickly, but it doesn't always happen... we live and we try our best!
Lol, you know... my grandma had lots of stinkbugs in her raspberry bushes, and as a kid I did not find them repulsive, not sure about their current status in my book, lol :D
I have a random sewing question. I am making a wedding dress for a friend and I was wanting to add bishop sleeves to a strapless dress...do you have any suggestion on how to do that? I can't seem find a video that will show me how...thanks!
You need support of some kind for the sleeve cap (top of the sleeve that will sit on the shoulder). You need 2 things - a bishop sleeve (you can draft your own or use one from pattern, you might need to adjust the top of it) and you can watch the summer top tutorial from my Sew Easy series - you will see the yellow and blue tops on the thumbnail. The the sleeve isn't held by a neckline and has elastic in it at the top - you can use that as a starting point for your project.
Sara, hello there! Great question.... I bought them so long ago...let me see if I can look through my amazon order from the past and see if it was from amazon and if it is - I will come back and let you know. The bee buttons are just for decor only, I sewed them on as regular buttons without the buttonhole :)
Nope :) but I do I have tutorials/videos for each one of them - just go look through my channel, I have separate series for making t-shirt and tops from scraps.
Hello tehre Ardith, here's a Membership video that will explain what Membership perks you have and where to find them, just make sure you watch till the very end - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-uP9qSamkVkk.html
What did you do in order to avoid splotches of dye on your fabrics. I tried to dye a few natural fabrics recently (a cotton blend, 100% rayon), and all of them came out with darker and lighter spots on the fabric. I followed the instructions on the bottle. I used Rit dye for natural fabrics and dyed the fabric manually. Do you have tips to avoid uneven dye uptake? Thanks!
Great question...I have dyed in a pot/bucket with some great results and then a few times I did get splotches. I find that if your fabric has enough room to move and you keep stirring it = it gives a more even result. This time however I did use the washing machine method for the first time ever. I was paranoid, but the result is great. It did result in a full blown washing machine scrubbing session - that's something to keep in mind :)
@@ThoughtfulCreativity Thank you much for the reply! I did use a pot on the stove that I think might have been too small. I think I might have to use the washing machine too for an even result.
@@ThoughtfulCreativity On the same topic... do you use a fixative after you dye? I tried dying without it and the colour just washed out, thankfully it did not ruin anything else.
I do not, but depending on what I dye I use I will use mordant. I have a video for fiber reactive ice dye and for onion skin/avocado dye and I used mordants there to lock in the color. The pink shirt that I wore at the beginning of this video is actually done with ice dye and I have washed it many times with other things - no color bleed and as you can see - the color iS BRIGHT! :) Then I also dyed a linen with Rit liquid dye a few years back and also made a pair of pants and those I wash very often and also, no color bleed. On the package of Rit Dye it does say what water temperature, and what to add if you dye wool, cotton, nylon and etc. I hope this helps!
I love your videos but this one was bit... strange. Yes, unfinished projects happen. If something does not fit just right or is very complicated or something else that takes time to sort out (like fixing mistake) it is totally understandable but to have in unfinished pile project that just misses buttons or top-stitch? For such an organized person like you? It is hard to believe for me and this episode looked kind of staged for me.
Uhmmm... it might feel however it feels, but if you have seen the first episode and the second episode of this series - you saw me put stuff into this box and I clearly said I will be dealing with them later :) That white t-shirt has been on a dress form, I am sure it has been in the background in other videos, and in my sewing room with the topstitchigng missing for a bit, so was the jacket, I actually posted this sweet little jacket as a picture with extra tips and the inside construction for my Members about a month ago, with a note that I made bound insides because my little one would wake up from me using a serger, and that was when the schools were closed due to snow... so, now looking back - that's why I did not insert the snaps - because it is SUPER LOUD to do it and I needed to concentrate. The skirt was made last year, along with the Se Easy skirt tutorial... and I really don't know why I did not finish it. Videos take a lot of work, more than anyone can imagine, and I don't actually get much time for my personal "off-camera" sewing, and the time I get is very limited. Anyway, I am not here to explain myself. I am sorry if it looked staged to you... I guess I wish it was - would be less work for me, but isn't :)
On the same note - guess what - the jacket on the dress form, right behind me in this video - STILL NOT FINISHED! I said in the original video that I am thinking about adding tiny shoulder pads for the shoulders to hold shape better, so I left the center back of the lining basted together - guess what? I haven't had a SINGLE CHANGE to sit down and construct shoulder pads... sad, but that's the reality... and I completely forgot that it is unfinished. So yes, it happens :)
I love those BEE buttons for a little girl! They go very nicely on a well put together grey jacket without being over the top. And…yes she will outgrow the bee buttons by the time she is 10…(sigh) alas.🥹
Ah... that's what I figured :( ... People keep telling me that she will not want the sight of handmade clothes when she gets older, which is fine, I understand, but I do hope that she will continue being excited to sew together with me. So far she thinks that we can make ANYTHING :)
We had 3 daughters, the oldest of which loves singing as much as I do. She is 38 now with a busy family of 4 but still enjoys making time to harmonize with me for church performances a couple times a year. I would bet your daughter will always love sewing because of your passion for it.
