They are just as, if not even more so, aggressively imperialist as America, as they are full on annexing places and conquering them rather than only trying to control them indirectly. A country can't be a super power without being imperialist, since a country that isn't imperialist will give its constituents the ability to become independent and eventually dissolve into a loose coalition rather than a single unified super power.

All we are doing is to reclaim what is rightfully ours (See diao yu dao incident and other disputes). So a toxic dose of whataboutism with some nationalism sprinkled in. As an American, I wish we answered their cries for help in some way. I mean, this level of tyranny is intolerable. Watched a show where there was a lady from Norway who traveled to China in the 80's, she liked the country so much that she decided to stay. I think she ended up staying in Hong Kong but i'm not a 100% sure, but what she said is that mainland China is pumping in new citizens in to Hong Kong and making (forcing) the children learn Mandarin Chinese in the schools. It's worrying if it's true, it would be exactly what happened in Ukraine where Russia annexed Crimea.
