Thank you Thank you Thank you. You are a gem. Other folks who teach/demonstrate seem to hide the needle with their fingers and thumbs. You are great. I do have a small problem... Paying when ordering. I have no credit cards. How can i purchase your products with out a credit card. Please ... I need your stuff. Thanks and keep up the good work.

For DMC skeins, after a while of pulling out the thread, the remaining bundle of thread becomes thin, and the number label tends to fall off and the remaining skein becomes less of a solid thing. do you have any tips for managing the skein as the quantity of remaining thread diminishes? Many thanks.
@SarahHomfrayEmbroidery
@SarahHomfrayEmbroidery 4 года назад
When it starts to get thin I fold the label in half around the skein. After that I usually take the label off and wrap the remaining thread around the label!

So glad I found your channel. Your work is awesome! I am putting a small amount of embroidery on a satin dress and would like to use a thread with a bit of sheen. Any suggestions for what to use? Also, if I am doing embroidery on a washable garment, should I pre-treat or shrink the embroidery thread along with the fabric before construction? Thanks, LaQueta from Ontario, Canada

Embroidery thread doesn't need any treatment before stitching with it on a washable garment (it won't shrink!). To get a sheen you could try a twisted thread like a perle or if you want something really nice go for a twisted silk. I'd avoid rayon if you can; although it's got a nice sheen it's really hard to work with. Hope this helps!

Do I use all 6 strands through the needle to embroider? (because they have 6 strands) you don't seem to separate them.

Hello! I was wondering if I would be able to embroider with heavy yarn? I am making a crib blanket from 2 pieces of fleece and I would like to embroider the babes first name, only 4 letters, with the same yarn I am using for the fringe. I wanted to use yarn so I would be able to make the name in a large, heavy block style across one whole side of the blanket. Is this possible? Thanks for any insight, I appreciate it! Take good care of you and yours.

Up the size of your needle so the thread doesn't wear when you take it through the fabric and you should be fine. Practice on a spare bit of fabric first...

some people only use bobbins and I have been told the kinks don't damage your stitching

Hi Sarah Many thanks for all your very informative videos! Just a question from a beginner I have crochet thread size 8 is there anything I can do to stop it from fluffing on my work ? Maybe running through beeswax ? Thank you !
@SarahHomfrayEmbroidery
@SarahHomfrayEmbroidery 5 лет назад
Use nice short lengths Lindsay (no longer than finger tip to the inside of your elbow) and try a needle a larger size so that the thread doesn't wear on the fabric

I'm making a chart with some images on at real size Diane so that you can compare. I'll try and get it on my website Free stuff page and my social media sites this week!

Sarah, is there a correct direction for the floss to be used? Since it has a twist to it is there one direction that keeps the twist nice, while the other direction untwists as you stitch?
@SarahHomfrayEmbroidery
@SarahHomfrayEmbroidery 2 года назад
Threads are either twisted in an 'S' twist or a 'Z' twist and this is the same whichever way up you have your thread; people do say the fibres tend to lie in one direction so you should always use it the way it comes off the skein but I've never worried about this and so far no one (icluding me!) has noticed!!

I never have Geraldine, but the lovely Wendy from The Silk Mill (thesilkmill.com) uses it on her silk threads so yes you can is the answer!
