Do You Love Or Hate The New 2022 Nissan Frontier? I Talk To The Guy Who Designed It! 

God ,I love TFL! These pump out so much contnet, I dont know when they sleep. I'm glad we are seeing this. Nissan needs a home run and I think this may be it. I actually 'want' this truck. Cant wait for the actual reviews

Nissan did a great job. This may be the best looking midsized truck on the market right now. Hopefully they bring back the Xterra and use this platform!

Definitely helps make you appreciate how much work and passion goes into designing a vehicle. You can tell that guy is really proud of the design.

Very nice midsize truck. I want to ride in one to compare to my Ridgeline. I owned only 1 Nissan, it was a 1986 truck, Blue, 4cyl, 5-speed-manual. It cost $6200. It was a good, compact truck.

Drove Nissans for years, they were very dependable, never had to return one to the dealer for any problems. This is the best looking truck they've ever released, hope they update the ride.

Nice looking truck. Loyal Tacoma owners may want to take a look and drive this truck. I love the Tacoma but I test drove a bunch and I just found it very uncomfortable to drive from the seat position to the view out the windshield and I'm 6 ft 1. I will test drive this truck for sure. I know Nissan makes a very strong reliable motor. I couldn't care less about mpgs. Its a truck. Nice job with this redesign !!

It's great to hear all the attention to detail from the designer. Also functionality was built into the design as well as keeping the scale of the truck minimal while adding a sense of more space. The red accents add a little more 'fun' and pop as well. Looking forward to seeing it in person!

Xterra owner here. Love the design. I will probably look into buying one in a few years once the pro4x is a little more affordable on the used market.

The more angles I see this truck from, the more I like it. Outstanding design, for sure. As long as it's roomy enough (I'm not small) and not priced thru the roof, this might be on my radar. Love it.

Super video. Thanks Andre. That old Hardbody still looks relevant and fresh in my opinion. I've always loved the rear side windows, the simplicity of it and that ageless, block-like, design. The new Frontier is a stunner, for sure. Hope it's as reliable and affordable as the Hardbody was.

I never thought I would ever find a Nissan frontier good looking. But man I really like the way it looks. Putting on little wider off road tires and a bit lift and this thing it would look really good. An SUV on this form with similar front end would looks really good! Maybe a new xtera

I am old enough to remember the release of the D21 Hardbody! They really were distinct from everything else on the market and then when they showed the King Cab 4x4 with the off-road package,,,, wow!!! Really! It was soooo nice. My friend bought one, the first one on the lot at the dealership, and he still has it with just over 50,000 miles on it. You would have to work really hard to find any evidence of it not being brand new! He used it for Weekends to Banff and just very light use. He only did 35 mph on the gravel,,,,,, he has since replaced or painted anything underneath that showed wear. He also has the current 2019 Frontier Pro 4X King Cab beside it in his man cave. His daily driver is a 2016 Pro4X Frontier Crew cab. He didn’t keep the 1st gen Frontier because he really didn’t like them. He had an off-road brew cab long box and it would overheat on him whenever he towed with it so he bought Chevy K1500. He is drooling to go buy a King Cab for his man cave (the 2020 Vette is relegated to the garage on the house then, haha) and a Crew Cab for his new daily driver. I like these as well, but am waiting on the new compact pickups before I decide. Great interview fellas!! Really nice to hear about the process and the “pools” haha. The designer seems really nice and took a lot of the public’s opinions into account and it shows! (In my opinion anyway.) Thanks TFL!

One critique is I wish they worked the waterfall hood into the new design. That’s the most iconic thing on the original.

Looks like someone looked at the Tacoma design and made it look better.

I own a 2017 Nissan Frontier Pro-4X and I love it, I go off-roading all the time in some challenging areas of the Yukon, Canada. I love the look of this new truck too!

It would be great to see the OTHER sketches.

Right off the bat, just gotta say that the truck does look pretty good. Hopefully the drivetrain is competitive enough and there's reliability in it's components.

Seems to me like having the tow hooks painted orange would enhance their viability if you needed to use them at night. So I like the idea of brightly painted towhooks.

The one detail that gives me concern is the fender flares. The previous gen had them stamped into the sheet metal and as a result didn't give salt or debris anyplace to sit and that away the fenders. But hey, that's pretty minor. Beautiful design for sure!

What I like about the front of this truck is it looks less angry. Which is a plus.

Had a 1989 NISSAN Hardbody,LOVED IT, couldn’t kill it. Gave it to my Son when I left for Florida retirement in 97 with 342K on the OD,(using Mobile ONE), he now uses it for runs to the dump, and the winters haven’t been kind to the truck in PA, pretty much a rust bucket, (fenders flap in the wind) etc, but its got 812,680 miles last I heard, so that is also 32+ years . UM yeah, I’m buying ANOTHER NISSAN PICKUP!

Those 'Hardbodies' were really popular trucks back in the late 80's and 90's. They still look good...

As a Toyota guy, this is a really nice looking pickup, powertrain looks impressive too...

I am not a Nissan salesman or work for the company. But the Nissan Frontier is just a solid truck that is affordable, dependable, not full of useless features that drive up the cost, it also looks good. My first truck was a 1999 Nissan Frontier standard can with automatic transmission. It had a 4 cylinder. It was totaled at 38,000 miles. Never a single issue or known recall. Just oil change, air filters, and one set of tires. Few years later bought a used 2001 extended cab 4 cylinder, auto transmission frontier. It was a heavier truck and the 4 cylinder struggled a bit. Also the manual belt tensioners were tricky at times. But again just standard maintenance. But my luck, a hit and run totaled it 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️ A friend of mine about 5 years ago purchased a brand new Frontier. Had 0 issues. There was a recall for faulty crankshaft position sensor. They changed it during a routine oil change and told her afterwards, it was of course no charge. I now have a 2007 Dodge Dakota 4 door. It's getting near 200,000 miles and showing some signs of wear. Love the Dakota and it's never failed me. But the Frontier is still priced for the average person who doesn't want to finance for 8 years at 900 a month. And I don't want some silly looking silly slicker truck with the word Raptor 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️ that has a problem with the death wobble on the interstate. I realize the Frontier isn't designed to tow a 31ft triple axel trailer boat. But it's perfect for my needs.

This is a very awesome truck. I wish they still offered the 6 speed manual though.

I now understand that Siverado'ish line that runs from the lower part of the headlight to the lower bumper. It is a subtle connection to the Hardbody and well done, IMO.

The pandemic has put us through a lot and our nation needs a new truck to breath life into us, I believe the new 22' Frontier has the power and looks to get the job done. I would love to see a commemorative edition in red, one & blue for our frontline worker called FRONTLINER. It's GO time Andre get it done, hell yeah we need more than painted tow hooks!

They absolutely nailed the look! Good on this guy and all involved. They should be very proud! I just purchased this truck (Pro4x same color but also with the pro premium package) a couple of days ago. I had to work very hard to get it at sticker with no dealer markup lol. I've put about 130 miles on it so far. I'm all smiles every time i drive it. First impressions are reallllly good. There isn't much i do not like about the truck. It checks so many boxes. Very comfortable ride too! If you are on the fence, just make sure you go and test drive one. You'll fall in love with it. I test drove pretty much all major midsize trucks, Colorado, Ranger, Maverick, and Ridgeline. The Nissan Frontier was the clear winner imho. If you are in the market, give it a look!
