My house built 1955 . My electric panel and switch were that time equipment If I change electric panel and switch in recent trend device Do I need permit them I just need recent device shape
Most answers to any specific question about "Do I Need a Permit" is check with your local inspector. Most of the time they will say yes because they want money and the work.
I do all my own electrical in my home and I don't half ass my work. Screw the permit. What I do in my home is my business, I'm not getting a permit to do basic electrical add ons. And I just replaced my garage electrical box from a push button to flip switches. I also ran electric to a mini split Air conditioning unit I installed last month. You think I'm going to inform the town I live in every move I make?? Hell no...
@@flannelguydiy6458 how is that?? Do you have to show paper work on every electrical thing added/worked on in your home when you sell it?? How is anyone going to know that I ran the electric to the Mini Split unit I installed?? Or the new outlet I added to my bedroom?? Or the overhead flood light I installed over the garage?? Or the new electrical box I replaced In my garage?? When I sell this home how would anyone know I did any kind of electrical add ons/work to this home?? When I purchased this home, there was no electrical inventory taken. Please explain...
It's cutting a wire and then adding a short wire to wire nut all three together - then wiring the outlet off that small wire. so that the outlet is on its own line technically. That way if the outlet trips it doesn't kill the circuit for the entire row of outlets.
If I'm taking down a ceiling fan and replacing it with a different lighting fixture would I need a permit then? What if I put a ceiling outlet in its place to plus a fixture into?
I have two questions : 1. In my living room there are two recess lights controlled by one switch. If i want to add few more to same assembly by pig tailings does that need permit? 2. I want to run ethernet cable to setup PoE cameras in my attic. Does that need permit?
I reduced two bathroom lights down to one (side by side vanity to above mirror lighting). Removed both side by side boxes, wirenutted the one box which ran to the other and rerouted that box overtop of the mirror. Did I need a permit? Moved it a whole like 2ft.
Here in dukes of hap hazard Pa there is no state electrical license but they have been working in it since 1964. Can spend over $850 a year securing or renewing license from various townships. Got nailed years ago while replacing a toggle switch for a friend and no charge. Clown township Forest Gump wrote my trucks license # down and insisted I run to his township building next morning to get an electrical license & permit. Never got either. At one time in Philly did not need a permit to replace a luminare or work under $100 but they make you take an OSHA 10 or if a boss 30 hour class along with proof of vehicle insurance. Told Philly L&I in my 50 years as a sparky never performed electrical work while driving
i just installed a mobile home in a trailer park but the electrical company removed the meter because nobody lived in the lot for at least 2 years and now they told me i need a permit so they can install the service what documents do i need in order to go and get a permit
Is there a way to get around needing a permit if I wish to just run low voltage wiring in my ceiling for (4) LED recessed lights? So long as I'm not running new 14/2 wiring circuits? I already have an LED light above my entryway connected to a dimmer switch, can I just wire up 4 more low draw LEDs on a daisy chain from that junction box? I don't think any of the lights use more than 12W (probably DC between the light and junction box).
I am looking at getting my electrical panel replaced. I want to upgrade and add in switch for gas generator. Also add outside light and outlet. Getting estimates, one electrician said I didn't need to upgrade the panel to 200amp. He wants to add a small panel to the side keeping the original 100amp panel. He didn't want to change the panel out. I asked about permits. He was very hesitant about getting them. He said it would add $75 to the cost. And he could get permits. I asked him to give me a written estimate. He said he would email it. I never got it. It's a big red flag to me when an electrician doesn't want to get permits when doing this type of electrical work. I have a bad feeling about this guy. He had good google reviews. I am definitely not using this guy.
and country, there's not a single word answer that fits all. From what i know, in the USA you're allowed to do electrical work if you are an electrician or if you own the building. But where i live, the only thing you're allowed to do legally is to change a lightbulb...
Can homeowners apply for electrical permit themselves? I'm planning on installing a power inlet and an interlock switch for my portable generator myself. Can I apply for the permit myself or do I need an electrician apply for me?
I plan to add 2 more recess led lights to existing 1 recess led light by myself. I understand that city permit is required in this case. Can i get permit to do the electrical work myself or must be licensed electrician to do the electrical work?
Good video ! Hey since you seem to know what requires a permit i can't seem to find what they mean by under roof projection 24 inches no permit required for a shed .
@@flannelguydiy6458 yeah i read guidelines for shed with no permit most are under 120feet less than 12 feet height and under 24 inches roof projection .that last part left me puzzled .
Do I need a permit if I want to move the electric oven from one side of the room to the other? Not adding a breaker or additional outlet, but I would need to relocate the existing 220v outlet and reroute the wire.
Wow very helpful details. And for me I’m adding a couple sub panels to our house that we are currently renting but will buy it later. It’s a home I grew up in we moved out of it then recently moved back in. I’m in The DFW area. But I’m curious if I need a permit unless I’d depends on the city. Also I’m curious if electrical work that required a permit was done without one
@@heroknaderi ...just gonna throw this out there because it's a common question.... if it's a rental if is usually required the work be done by someone with a license in addition to the permit. If you are the owner, you can pull your own permit. Just one of those quirks in many areas.
