is it necessary? the answer to that is always no, but then again not much beyond breathing is 'necessary' but i personally couldn't imagine playing an mmo without my mmo mouse
How is it for tiny hands? I have creepy little hands. So far FFXIV's rotations are unplayable for me unless I use a controller. My G502 seems to suffice still for other games.
Zeppy, try the Corsair Scimitar Pro if you get the chance. It feels a ton better and you can slide the numpad on the side back and forth for perfect comfort.
I use my left and right scroll function as “target focus target” and “target of focus target”. I can easily switch between the tank and the target of the tank for quick heals and quickly get back on the boss. Trust me, try it.
Whenever i play healer its on my holy pala in wow. And THIS just blew my mind why i have yet to do this,as my healing is very dependant on being able to quickøy switch between enemies and tank! Thanks mate!
As a GNB who's had a G600 since 2019, this thing was a game changer for allowing me to make sure my rotation was happening without having to dance along the keyboard with my left hand that is now just dedicated to movement while Ive got all the fun stuff is on my camera hand.
I've been using Razer Nagas for like 10 years and I can't believe that I never thought to change my hotbars to reflect the MMO mouse layout. Makes it so easy to hit the button that I want even if I move stuff around. Genius.
I have small hands so for me, my gameplay got so much easier when i got one of those gaming mouses. At this point, I am so used to it that it isn't quite challenging anymore. Some people find it strange when I tell them, even more so when I stream something and they see my hotbars. Since I am a very visual person, I set them up like my mouse buttons. Makes it easier if I go panic mode to look where to click whenever I learn new jobs,
I do the same thing. I only use the bottom 6 buttons on my Corsair Scimitar, and I have my hotbars set up to reflect them so I dont forget in a panic where I have things bound, its muscle memory at this point, but it really helped me get used to it.
The most intimidating thing about an MMO mouse for me was when, after getting used to it, I had an accident where the flexor tendon in my thumb was severed. My thumb no longer moves like it used to, and I can't feel much with it anymore, but I can still use the MMO mouse more easily than the goofy keybinds I was using before.
This. You kind of need one once you've get used to playing with one. I got my first, a Naga, 10+ years ago. The quality of it kind of sucked having to re-plug it every once in a while after it got non responsive. Then I changed to the G600 and have been using it ever since. The first one had an issue with the left click button after three years and I replaced it with a new one. This one had an issue with the extra right side button being way too sensitive. Just a light touch would trigger it. That was easily solved with a tiny piece of foam rubber under it though.
@@peterliu9135 I'd like to know this as well. I have mine bound to the numberpad/10-Key but wondered how she games... maneuvering, double-mouse or WASD, click to trigger abilities, etc. I have small hands and use a Venus MMO mouse by SmartTech.
I've had this mouse for almost 7 years and it's still going strong back then I paid for the full price of $80 but nowadays people can buy it for $40 and it sometimes goes down to the low 30s. If you're going to play an MMO this mouse is definitely worth looking at. The only gripe with this mouse is that its shape is outdated and can be uncomfortable for claw grip, it's mostly for palm grip players, and that the sensor is also old. I'm really hoping Logitech refreshes this mouse with a new design or the lightspeed sensor and if possible make it wireless.
I wish I had read this comment before purchasing. Apparently, I'm a "claw grip" player. I can't "palm grip" since my palm rests on a gel pad. In addition, I can't even reach the bottom 2 rows of side buttons with my thumb while claw gripping this mouse, let alone while trying to palm grip. In fact, I have no idea how one could palm grip and also reach those side buttons (particularly the bottom 2 rows) unless having a 1" thumb.
@@kubasniak The G shift key is one of my favorite parts of the g600. What do you dislike about it? for me I can comfortably rest my ring finger on it, and if it's only being used for G shift then misclicking it shouldn't be to big of a deal.
I started using an MMO mouse from Razer quite a few years ago. And I just say, I’ve become so reliant on those extra buttons that I don’t know how I’ll function without them.
I’ve been playing FFXIV for a little over a month now and am loving it!! I literally watched this video yesterday, bought the mouse as soon as it was over, it got here today, and I am obsessed!!! It’s so much easier!!!
That’s awesome. I too just started playing FFXIV a month ago actually probably a little less cause as of yesterday I had 5 days left on my free month before I need to sub. The mouse sounds really cool just sucks I don’t play on PC. I’ve been playing on ps4 and have really been enjoying it. Hope you really enjoy playing using the mouse. Hopefully ull post another comment saying if it’s great to use too. Enjoy.
@@ineedmoneysp don’t quote me but PS4 may be compatible with KB/M. I would look into that if you want to try, though FFXIV has really good controller support.
@@LazyJesse You can laugh. But back in the Commodore 64's heyday, me and my friends used to play the odd game with our feet for the challenge. 'Dropzone' was a personal footie favourite of mine.
Me too! ...When I actually play FFXIV on my laptop at 21fps... I love the cross hotbar but I also like moving and typing with the board, so this works well for me!
The best thing about the G600 is that 3rd ctrl button which allowed 12 more button just form the mouse without needing the keyboard It definitely felt very right and it's the one feature I miss with my Scimitar
bought this mouse a couple months back after watching your video because my hand, wrist and arm was starting to get extremely sore from trying to move and reach my hot bar keys on my keyboard. took me about a week to get used to using it over the keyboard and month to fully get the hang of it completely. it has literally changed my gaming experience for XIV so THANK YOU. thank you for making this video. i wouldn't have gotten this mouse or even knew it existed it wasn't for you and the video. thank you, thank you, thank you! ^w^
I've used the Naga and the G600 but I eventually went back to regular mice. I found that just binding Mouse4 to CTRL and Mouse5 to Shift as well as changing binds 6+ to keys around WASD allowed me to easily use all my skills without having to do finger acrobatics. Still, I do see the usefulness in having your skills on screen aligned with your mouse, that is pretty neat.
I tried Naga and also had problem doing "finger acrobatics", and sometimes while pushing side buttons i would click on lmb or rmb when i am not supposed to, but then I got logitech g602 that have 6 side buttons and they are very easy to hit what you want, and when you add ctrl and shift you have total 18 commands that are easy to hit, and never had problem with hitting wrong button.
Oh ive been using this mouse since the beginning and i dont know how i can play xiv smoothly without it. Anyway, just a tip for reaching the buttons, dont use the tip of your thumb to press the buttons (like how you do it on around 3:25 ), instead use the tip for button 1-6, and use the 'back' of your thumb for button 7-12. You will be able to locate and reach the buttons faster that way. Might need some getting used to but once youre used to it, you wouldnt be able to lose control of your thumb position and you wouldnt even need to look at the buttons at all to press the right button or to reposition your thumb etc. Worth it.
Thats more preference, ive been using the mouse for years, and ive tried both styles but I found the tip of finger method a lot easier and accurate for me. And this is coming from someone with fairly large hands too so if my very far forward thumb can reach it just fine like that, then anyone with smaller hands could to. Its really up to each person individually.
got a Red Dragon MMO mouse with 12 buttons on side but it does come in handy in other games, but when i did play FF14 i used same thing lol good old PS4 controller!
I'm an FPS gamer and have used the NAGA trinity since the day I built my pc. I use it for leaning, crouching, going prone, and much more. I've never learned how to reach around my keyboard like most gamers and I don't want to.
Hi Zepla. I've been using an MMO mouse for a few years, and can't imagine playing any other way now. I used to have a Razer Naga, and while it didn't break exactly, I did feel it became less mechanically responsive after a while, so I switched to a G600 just under a year ago and am very happy with it. I also have my hotbars in the 3x4 format to match the side panel, which makes key selection much more intuitive. The beveled key grids also help a lot, although I sometimes have to glance down and relocate my thumb when things get a bit frantic. Having only switched to a DNC main a few weeks ago, I'm still experimenting with the bindings, but currently (at the time of writing I'm Lv.72 so don't have the full DNC toolkit yet) I have the GCDs and Fan Dances as unmodified keys (with single target on rows 1-2 and AOE on rows 3-4), the Steps and longer recast time abilities (Flourish, Devilment) +shift, and the role abilities and other miscellaneous stuff +control. I use the mousewheel sideways binds to move the targeting reticule left/right, and press the mousewheel to target nearest enemy - might not suit everyone, but it works for me. I agree, you don't NEED an MMO mouse, but (for me) it does make things more comfortable and key selection more fluent, and I certainly don't regret getting one. Have a great holiday!
I've been using the exact same mouse for years, It's such an upgrade over other mice. I have 1 complaint: I can't live without it anymore so the moment they stop selling them and mine breaks I'm fucked.
G600 is one I have used for a very long time. Even when not playing mmo's the side button functionality and familiarity has been so helpful for any activity that you use number keys for. Such a wonderful mouse that is not too expensive nowadays
The G502 is a real work horse. I bought one when they first came out and and use it to this day, so it’s been 7-8 years by now. The ergonomics are flawless and that trigger button is essential. I got the Razer Naga when it first came out and it broke in under six months. I use Logitech for all my peripherals now (except my headset). Durability matters.
You most definitely earned a new sub. I started playing the free trial yesterday and i've been watching your videos for tips and advice. You came on my reccomended and I started watching your videos because they seemed interesting, and my brother plays it 24/7 so it made me want to try it too. Thank you for being you and keep uploading.
Started playing the game a few weeks ago and feel in love with it within a day, so I decided to get this exact mouse. Funny enough I found this video well after buying it and using it and man it’s been amazing. I didn’t like having to figure out all my keybinds and working with just the keyboard when I started, it wasn’t comfortable for me, but getting the mouse has made it much more enjoyable and clean. I’ll probably always use this mouse (if I can’t somehow find a better one out there) for FFXIV.
to add onto you going all in and changing your keybinds along with getting the mouse, not only did i change my keybinds, i also changed my entire hud as well. so that was real fun to get used to
I bought the Razer Naga X and with a similar setup to the one that you have, I'm loving it. I haven't had a problem with the quality of the mouse with it breaking or what not. I play heavily for about eight hours a day and put it through the wringer and still no problems. I'm not trying to sway your purchase just saying that the grass isn't any different on this side.
It’s been a great mouse for work and gaming over the years. For ff14, it’s a good idea to switch the gshift key to something like ctrl. Only issue is sometimes the nested buttons will “stick” digitally and require replugging the mouse in
This is my favorite mouse I’ve ever had I bought 4 this year because they were so hard to find I thought they might not make it any more so I have backups for my back up. It took me 4 days to get used to this about 5 years ago when I first got it. Funnily enough I have my UI setup exactly the same as her FF one in WoW. Those middle mouse button side pushes are awesome for mounts by the way. They typically last me roughly 2-2.5 years as a heavy used mouse.
I haven't used a Logitech g600 before. But I love my current MMO Mouse Utech Venus. It's not a well known brand. I decided to try a more well known brand, so I gifted the Utech Venus to my cousin, but after trying a Corsair MMO Mouse and breaking in less than a year, I decided to go back and buy the Utech Venus. I have never had any problems with it ever since. It has been 2 years since. The one I gifted to my cousin lasted well over 4 years.
I got this mouse a couple months ago because of this video and it's really nice. I was half clicking before this so I still go back to that sometimes but it's helpful. I'm sure I'll get better at it. Appriciate this video!
i've been using this same mouse for like 9 years now, i mean i replaced it once but that was after maybe 7 years, i play world of warcraft & considered to buy a cosair's scimithar (?) dunno how is called tbh. but what i like about this mouse is the weight and the material, also love as you mentioned, the curve between the 12 buttons made easy to identify what binding is pressed. an excellent mouse. love your review. like and sub from now.
I got my red dragon MMO mouse for $5 around 3 years ago and it still works perfectly. These mice are life changers and can be used in other games or avenues other than MMOs. For example, I use it while playing Overwatch and it makes using abilities/melee/reload so much easier to do. I am so attached to my MMO mouse that if it ever broke, I'd instantly buy another.
I absolutely LOVE that mouse. Even though my hand is too small for the further out buttons. I wore out some of the buttons and had to get a new one, but that took over a year. Same thing will probably happen again, and I'll still get it.
ive been using the g600 for about 6ish years. i've gone through 3 of them, the last two were on sale for $35. the num pad right on my thumb is amazing. even when not gaming and using excel, the buttons are a godsend also the middle mouse left/right click are great for going back and forward through webpages
How the hell did you gone though 3?!? I have been using the same g600 for about 4-5 years and it’s only now doing the double clicking thing, so imma buy a new one. But gone though 3??? You smashing them with hammers? xD
It's a QoL for sure. I've grown dependent on it for so long. I've never played FFXIV without one. So when my Razer Naga broke and I couldn't get a replacement immediately, it severely hindered my playstyle. I had to relearn and bring back the "dexterity" of my left hand using the keyboard again.
I’m new to FF14 and I’m loving it. Almost bought an MMO mouse but I saw another video that had a great idea! Instead of using alt and shift and awkwardly reaching for your binds, you make the 2 side buttons alt and shift. That way your left hand is free to reach every bind. If I feel I’m going to really invest time in the game I’ll get an mmo mouse. I’m only a week and half in. Almost done with ARR story quests. I’ve been no lifing it so far.
I always disable the 3rd button on the g600 XD I also do the grids 3x4 helps you remember where everything is. I use it for ffxiv and WoW and can't play without it.
The changeable sides can be great for when you play a variety of different games but more importantly, there's a lot of buttons and one is going to break eventually. So being able to but a new side is a boon.
I think your thinking of the razor naga trinety i have that now myself where the side panel can be changed out for a new one the G600 she has is solid so the buttons go out and you have to replace the whole mouse
@@globalist1990 no each pannel is an actual panel with its own keybindings the Razor trinety software has 4 actual screens with settings one for the L/R ckick, scroll wheel and 2 extra buttons under it then one for a side panel with 2 buttons, then a side panel with 7 buttons in a circle then the last is a full 12 button panel all can be hot swapped at any time
@@MarrisaPlays but isn’t the actual switch inside the main mouse body? Are these panels wired to the mouse? I have a mouse of a different brand with removable panels, and it’s like just mobile plastic parts. The actual switch is inside a hole in the mouse where those plastic parts go in. The switch is inside the mouse, and that’s the fallible part.
@@globalist1990 ah um im not sure thats to far outside my knowledge base. Looking at it looks like mettle cottacts on the bouse to a bard like thing on the panels. I have no idea about the insides sorry
Just getting into higher level jobs (60 rdm) and adding a 3rd row of keybinds brought me here. Thanks for the video! It gave me some great ideas on how to arrange my ff14 keybinds 👍
Just ordered one. Don't know why it took me this long to get one. I've been binding buttons around my WASD (Q, E, R, F, etc...) just to make things more accessible but just isnt enough.
Yeah I think Ill buy one too. I always end up quitting wow even though I feel like I have solid keybinds setup. It's just too much work on the left wrist.
@@mortaeus7274 go for it! It'll take a bit of getting used to but ever since I got it, I feel like I could never play another MMO without it. It just makes every facet of the game more enjoyable. Good luck!
just keybind your keyboard correctly. If you move with werd or esdf instead of wasd you can easily get 40+ binds without any mouse button with the keys around + modifiers and about 20ish of those can be easily pressed while moving. Relying on a mouse is an excuse for "bad" players
Thank you for this video, I recently purchased a Logitech G600. After purchasing it I was still using my Razer Orbweaver to perform all my abilities and I was using auto-run all the time. After watching your video, I took your recommendations and moved all my abilities to my G600 and my movement to the Orbweaver. It's taken some time to use the mouse for my abilities but I'm getting the hang of it and I'm enjoying it even more. Thank you for this video and your detailed explanation.
Definitely one of the best mice I've ever had. Decided to go with a razer naga a couple of years ago and regret it. The g600 mouse didn't develop a double click problem until about 4 years of use or more. The razer got that problem in about a year of use and it's 2-3x the cost. Logitech is MVP.
Yeah my Razer Naga Trinity had the double click issue on the right mouse button about 1 year in, then just last week (almost exactly 2 years to the day it arrived), the right click broke completely. Wouldn't recommend another Razer mouse after this.
The G600 felt like a brick in my hand when I first used it. After going through three G600s that lasted me more than a decade, I can't live without it.
I’ve only had mine for a year but unfortunately mine began developing issues after only 6 months of use. Now I have to press the right click down harder for it to activate because if I don’t it doesn’t actuate the click :/
I have one of these. and it's actually really nice. Though, since I need help to visualize what to press, I had to go with a 3 wide x 4 tall for my hotbars. But it's super convenient.
This video went on my feed at he perfect time because I have been struggling with trying to be a finger contortionist everytime I play FFXIV. Thanks Zepla
I see so much positive feedback on this mouse. I just got the mouse myself and im finding it way too heavy, way too bulky and wide forcing me to use palmgrip, and the buttons are confusing as hell to use in real time outside of a 1+2+3 combo. I like the idea you have about setting it up with each row being a different catagory vs just assigning every hotkey from my in game bar to a button and trying to remember the order. I can totally see getting used to the button layout, but not sure if ill ever get over the forced palmgrip/size and the weight
I have the Venus pro wireless 12 button mouse and it’s super light with an ergonomic grip Love it because it makes each button accessible and and easy to click without being to clunky or feel too weird to hold
Yeah it's aheacy mouse. I keep the dpi pretty high as a result and the back buttons are awkward, especially with the far right clicker pressed. Logitech has another mouse with only 6 buttons on the side, but I prefer this one
@@whwhywhywhywhywhywhy You can make it lighter if you're willing to take it apart, which is very simple. All you need is a small Philips head screwdriver, and a standard sized one, and I'd recommend a razor blade. Firstly, unplug the mouse, obviously. Carefully remove the rubber feet on the bottom, I find a razor blade works nicely, and you'll find two small screws under each, remove those and you're in, should easily come apart in two pieces. On the inside of the top, there are two metal plates held on by two screws that serve no purpose other than making the mouse heavier, and if you remove those it will make the mouse lighter by ~30g/one ounce. Screw it back together, and stick the feet back on (usually the adhesive they use is strong enough that they'll go back on good as new, but a little super glue is all you need if they go on less than perfect), and you're good to go. I've done this "fix" for multiple customers in my shop who love the mouse but wish it was a bit lighter. Makes it feel like a completely different mouse. Pretty much zero risk of messing it up, it's very simple. However, taking it apart will void your warranty with Logitech, so keep that in mind.
I taught myself to play southpaw guitar for similar reasons, I don’t think a mouse on the other side would take long to get used to at all. Worth a shot
Long ago I bought a Logitech G600, I was really happy about it. I recommended it to my friend, who never had 12 buttons mouse before, he was very skeptical about it and never saw a need for that many buttons, despite playing an mmo. I convinced him to try it since his old mouse was defect. He has been surprised and really happy about this new mouse, so happy in fact that he wanted to buy a backup later on. that was when we realized it was out of production. It was no longer able for purchase anywhere... Seeing this was the only Logitech mouse with this many buttons, and it went out of production. The demand and request for it became so high that they started production if it again. I really hope that the mouse generates enough revenue for Logitech for them to try expand and produce more types of Logitech mouses with 12 buttons on the side.
I originally got the g600 back when I was raiding Ice Crown Citadel 3 nights a week and my pinky was starting to act up hitting shift and control all the time. I have been using it for almost 10 years now for MMOs exactly because of what you said, being able to move and cast (and save your left pinky) is so valuable. Oh, and I have a 502 for fps games XD
I recently got a gaming mouse myself and it helps a lot. Mine is a Redragon (way cheaper than most gaming mice), only has ctrl, alt & shift extra buttons but that’s all I need. I also figured out to set up my action bars to reflect it. As WHM I set up my mousewheel click to cast regen, since it’s one of my few instant spells. It makes it much easier to put heals on people while moving (like when the tank is pulling half the dungeon and you must keep chasing them and healing lol).
Instead of 2 of those get a game pad like logitech g13 or razor tartarus. I dont touch my keyboard while playing except for chat. Thumb stick for movement, all fingers free for hotkeys plus all the moise vuttons.
been using the g600 for years and absolutely love it, the feel is great, the software is easy to use and all the buttons as you said make it so easy to move and dps
Always happy to see some love for the G600. Been using it since they launched in 2012, only on my second one (first was bullied by cats lol). Genuinely can't imagine playing PC games without one.
I will say this. I have been using an "mmo mouse" since 2011. You dont' "need" an mmo mouse but it is amazing and you play really good with it, but there is a catch. It is so good in all mmos that when you actively use it you will wire your entire muscle memory around the setup of the mouse. Which means that if you ever break the mouse you are almost unable to go back to a regular setup and play efficiently. My naga mouse broke a few weeks ago it was so weird playing without it that i actually started mouse clicking abilities in combat. I later got an corsair scimitar mouse. So basically it is an amazing mouse but you will almost be addicted to it and it is hard to go back to play mmos without it.
TBH, you don't have to spam anything in the first place. This game does support action queueing, so you can just hit your next GCD ability you want to go off once it's within half a second or so of the GCD being done (aka once the highlight is about three quarters of the way done or more). It will trigger that ability the instant the GCD will let it. Saves you lots of stress on your hands that way!
@@aaronlefebre5060 yes and no, some combinations of things don't queue properly, also any situation where the boss is untargetable, for example due to range or whatever of course queuing doesn't come into play. On my opener for example as I'm running to the boss I can just hold down the first skill and it will fire the moment it can. Also even when queuing is a factor, I have other things to worry about right? I'd rather have my eyes on the fight than on skill spinners, I would guess that even the more accurate players regarding the timing of queuing will spam their abilities some. Regardless, it's not an either/or thing, button repeat doesn't break skill queueing, queueing is still very important.
The only thing one has to do with g600 is to make the button that's by default the "G shift" thing be a left control. Once you live with having a control on your rig finger you can never live without it I myself like the fact that the mouse is heavier. Sure if one uses the mouse for a more flick heavy game like fps games one wouldn't necessarily want to have the mouse weigh so much
@@07citychamp Umm, no? Queing the button automatically hits it the moment the GCD is up, so you've not late on it, and frees you up for easier double weaving since you're already on the next button. That's literally faster than spamming.
I use the Razer Nago Pro that comes with three different plates. I honestly love it and it is still going strong a year+ later. I'm glad I can finally use my 12 button plate for something since I just started playing FFXIV.
Like someone else in the comments said this video showed up on my feed shortly after I started using an MMO mouse, but funnily enough I didn't buy just any mouse, I bought a Logitech G600 for FFXIV and I've loved it a lot.
I bought a g600 after watching this review, and it's really improved the play experience for me. Not that I wasn't having fun before, but I feel way better tackling raids and harder content with this mouse than I did using a normal mouse and keyboard.
I was considering the MMO mouse but the buttons seemed to small I ended up getting the azeron keypad instead since it has 24 keys and an analog stick it's perfect for ffxiv
i can't even imagine how i would play any mmo without a 12 button grid mouse. how would you even move while hitting your keybinds if its all on the same hand?
I move with the mouse and use the keyboard just for abilities. I have a Razer Naga Trinity and tried using both the 12 button and 7 button side-plates, but couldn't get into either. So I'm using the 2 button side-plate now because that's all I can handle.
Hold left and right mouse button while steering your character with your mouse. I have no issues hitting all my key binds while on the Go and I play DNC and MCH a lot. I’ve thought about getting an mmo mouse, but I would just be trading hitting keybinds with left hand to hitting buttons with my right thumb. Seems moot and rather not waste $50. I do have medium sized hands so I can hit 1-5 and up to I, J and M without leaving ASD and hit shift / cntrl comfortably without issues. I can def see MMO mice being ideal for ppl with smaller hands though.
I play fps games and have used Corsairs MMO mouse for more key-bind control. Then started play mmo’s a year ago and having the mmo mouse has been amazing
Someone needs to figure out how to make one of those that'll work with man hands. Impossible to use... I've tried and am usually pressing three buttons at once.
I had Razer Nagas for years and I probably went through 3 of them over 5 years they kept breaking. Finally switched to a G600 and I've had it for 3 years and no problems with it, really happy with it
I have my mouse wheel Left/Right on my MMO mouse to be Follow Target/Auto Run. They're not very important commands but its very convenient to have them there :)
