As a woman I 100% agree with knowing how to use all forms of self defense and evasive skills for life safety. I just attended a shoot don’t shoot event and most of my class bet against me saying I would shoot during a robbery and they lost. You only shoot when the window is cracked wide enough to do so in your benefit. Thank you for this channel and all you do.

@hard2hurt Have you done any videos training against a rifle or shotgun? People seem to train solely for pistol disarms. Sorry if this sounds dumb, it's just in twenty years of looking at "gun grappling" nobody ever seems to think they'll have a shotgun or a sporting rifle pointed at them. There seems to be a big hole in self defense right there.

Except that’s like saying if you can’t wrestle, don’t get a gun. That is stupid advice. The multitude of people that stopped mass shooters with their handguns didn’t need grappling. A 80 lb woman is not going to beat a 200 lb man regardless of how much grappling experience they have.

@@FilmFlam-8008 A. What do people find themselves in the situation of more, mass shootings or casual self defense? I regret to inform you mass shootings don't happen everywhere at all times, but robberies do, fist fights do, and bar fights do. If you want to murder someone just because you got into an argument with them, you deserve prison. B. If you believe you have control over every and all situations just because you've got a gun on you, you've never been in any type of fight for your life. You don't know when a fights going to happen unless you're the one starting it, and if they want you dead or hurt you'll be dead or hurt without warning. @@rainbowtroutinwell, a mass shooting occurs every single day in multiple cities near me. I have not heard of a SINGLE grappling match fight at all in over 5 years in the street. Yes, there was news about someone being cold-cocked and knocked out or hit with something like a pipe, but not ONCE have I seen news about someone actually going to the ground. The only two I can actually think of is the recent one in New York where someone got taken down threatening people (but even then it was done badly) and BLM tackling a guy from behind after threatening the store. But mass shootings and gun violence? DAILY.

throwing the plastic pistol into the wrestling practice changed everything and you can really see how useless the weapon is without grappling skills
@FilmFlam-8008
@FilmFlam-8008 Год назад
But that’s assuming wrestling actually occurs on the street encounters. Which 99% of the time it doesn’t. It is someone being cold-cocked. Grappling is absolutely the most important thing for peacekeeping positions like cops, bouncers, and undercover people that have to inject themselves in close proximity and first go to grappling as their initial line of confrontation. For 99% of actual situations, no. It’s about avoiding the conflict completely.
@kroups8413
@kroups8413 Год назад
@@FilmFlam-8008 I think grappling occurs much more than you think. And if you get punched in the face and aren't out immediately, you're in striking/grappling range. And trying to pull a weapon will turn it into grappling immediately. And even if you are right, people carry weapons knowing that 99% of the time they won't have to use it. So maybe we should train grappling even if it only happens in 1% of cases (which btw it doesn't.)
@jomess7879

@FilmFlam-8008 Год назад
@@kroups8413 that’s not the issue. The issue is the “most important” statement. Absolutely not true for civilians. For cops and bouncers like Mike, it is true. But if 1% of the time you MAY get in a grappling match (which again is NEVER in the news or found in a non-peacekeeping postion), proficiency with accuracy and speed is better. And it is more accessible to people.
@FilmFlam-8008
@FilmFlam-8008 Год назад
@@jomess7879 link to them then. Every time I see it, it is usually over in the first swing or it just becomes a messy boxing match. Any time I did see it turn into a grappling match the grappling didn’t matter because friends joined in that needed the fight. A one-on-one fight in a bar has never been recorded around me. Multiple gunfights have. Not one was brawl based.

I’ve experienced this no less than twice while doing martial arts. First time there was a guy that came to the dojo I went to at the time that eventually offered to teach boxing. My response: “I know Kung Fu, I don’t need boxing, I’ll just keep him back with my kicks.” I then proceeded to get my ass kicked by the dude who did boxing. Then with BJJ. Not having learned my lesson the first time I stubbornly said “I don’t need to learn BJJ, I’ll just keep him back and he won’t be able to take me down.” I then got my ass kicked by a BJJ white belt. Moral of the story? You’re not protected by your “justs.” You always have something to learn.

I’ve been training in martial arts for years, and six months ago I decided to get a compact firearm for concealed carry. Maybe this is weird, but the gun made me feel LESS SAFE, probably because I lack training in weapon retention and grappling, and I wondered if all was doing was carrying the means of my own demise. Welp, this video cleared that up! I signed up for Jiu-Jitsu classes three months ago. That is going well, considering that I am getting smashed three or four times a week. The really funny thing is that I thought I knew how to fight before taking a Jiu-Jitsu class. Anyway, thanks for teaching me, and the gun is going into the locker for a while. I might reconsider the matter after earning a blue belt.

Most important thing to remember about self defense in general, as soon as you think you've fully learened to properly defend yourself, you already failed. It's a constant learning/training process. I try to focus on quick draw and being able to put a few rounds in a small space as quickly as possible. Also the fear of my weapon being taken away from me is a very real concern. I try to make myself as inconspicuous as possible, as I see people who do open carry as the first target I would go for if I had bad intentions. The issue is that you don't dictate the beginning of a confrontation. Sure, if it's a bad guy mass shooter, your scenario and logic works, but if you get in a fight, usually it's an escalating "normal" situation. You bump into a dude in the club, he attacks you. None of that stuff works. You gotta be able to control the situation before you introduce deadly force

I'm a gun guy and I am 61 years old. I've never had anyone wrestle my gun out of my hands and I can fight with knife/empty hand/stick/several other improvised weapons. I still practice and use the technique of shooting from retention.

One of my favorite MACP drills was standing 15-20 feet apart and trying to draw a pistol on someone before they bumrushed you. FAR more often than not they closed the distance before you could draw and bring that weapon to bear on them. Only thing that worked was taking a BIG step back when drawing your weapon and even then it was about 50/50.

Holy shyt Mike those were some smooth transitions. Is this from some sort of grappling classes you took or is this taught in self defense classes. Thank you for the answer!
@hard2hurt
@hard2hurt Год назад
That's fairly basic Greco-Roman wrestling. It only really looks so smooth because we're not going 100%. Most good self defense instructors teach variations of it. I've done video reviews of the good courses

it's crazy how much grappling with weapons alters the entire exchange. We do it sometimes (i'd like to do it more honestly) in hapkido, last time we did it we started in guard, with the armed person in guard. Once I was able to get the practice gun and I just tossed it across the room (obviously there was no one that was gonna get hit with it) lol it was funny.

THANK YOU!!!!!! I've had this argument for years. Gun guys think that that you don't need any type of CQC or grappling skills coupled with weapons training....this goes for knife/baton guys too! I'm a knife/baton guy myself, but I also understand, especially from my military training......you still need grappling/striking skills. If these guys did their homework, they'd find that a long history of Infrantry Soldiers to Spec-Ops (WWII-Afghan/Iraq Wars) trained in Judo/Jiu Jutsu techniques, boxing, wrestling...etc...but I can go on. Thanks for this refreshing video sir

Appendix position is my favorite CCW holster position. Lighting fast and with such as a Glock 43, SIG 365, or S&W J frame Centennial .38, one can carry a fairly powerful 9mm/.38 Spl. that hols 5-11 shots (my 43 has a Taran Tactical 1 shot extension.) Shooting from the retention or belt level allows you to draw and shoot in 3/4ths of a second at close quarters or less. And Appendix position is very easy to defend if one tries to grab it. Sure one needs some H2H... for in many cases lethal force is not necessary. And knowing you have a very effective handgun setup and you have trained with it weekly makes it a very good SD setup. Oh, and did I mention I live in Texas? In Texas EVERYONE has a gun... and we have lots of shoot ranges that allow you to draw and shoot.

Also if a gun armed good guy shoots an unarmed bad guy in self defense, let us know how that worked out after years in court and hundreds of thousands of dollars in legal fees, plus the fear of revenge from the bad guy's family for the rest of your life. "Pop quiz hot shot." I love it.

This is why its always important to have Pro 2A gun liability insurance if you plan on using a firearm as your primary self-defence tool. There is a very large industry of lawyers willing to spend millions on single firearm use cases especially if it involves different races; you could have the clearest case of self-defence and they'll try and break your spirit long before even getting to trial. Having legal protection in place BEFORE anything happens is critical as a responsible firearm owner.

@shevetlevi2821
@shevetlevi2821 Год назад
@@echofoxtrotwhiskey1595 Of course. But I doubt the courts really think that way and we all know how capricious the legal system is. Anything I've seen says that the legal system's mentality is whether or not the defender was confronted with a lethal threat. Unless it's The Rock against a little old lady they might not.
