After having lost my best friend due to cancer (she was just 26 when she passed away) I changed my mind about getting older. I'm happy that I can get to live and experience life instead of suffering, getting sick and passing at young age. Yes, it means that I will get gray hair and start seeing wrinkled at some point, some already now but it also means I'm alive.

As a 30-year-old woman I am so disheartened by the insane about of focus and scrutiny on woman's appearance. This idea of perfection and looking like a fetus for your entire life is just so sad and out of control. It's really a deep topic and I have a lot of thoughts on it. I am so glad that my early 20s were filled with college, and solo travel that built my confidence more than any amount of cosmetic treatments could ever. I just fear for this younger generation that the repercussions of the current state of society and beauty standards is going to be extremely negative. Don't get me wrong, taking care of yourself and looking your best is powerful and amazing. But it is not the most important thing and it should not consume us

Funny old creatures, us humans. We’re flawed in so many ways, like wanting to zero in on the flaws of everyone and everything. Oh and if we find someone or something that’s flawless, well we’ll just have to start hating on that too!
@rjyoungling220
@rjyoungling220 Месяц назад
Can we stop with this “beauty standard nonsense.” It’s not because of evil big cosmetics or whatever.. It’s game theory! Women compete with each other so everyone is trying to get an edge because beauty has certain benefits. This will never go away even if there were no advertisements. Women (and men!!) just like to be beautiful because of the things it brings. And even the people who’re moaning about the so called beauty standards will still try to make themselves beautiful by doing their nails, wearing nice clothing, lip stick, earrings, what have you. No one is looking like a tree monster here. So can we stop it with the hypocrisy. Even you don’t wanna look your best, that’s totally fine. But if other people are trying to maximize their looks, that’s fine too.

I'm 53 and never had Botox or any other 'procedure'. In the last 10 years I've lost 5(!!!) really near, good, loved friends that were my age and for me it's a privilege to still be on this earth. What's the problem with lines and wrinkles? It's just the society, the spirit of time and the cosmetic industry that dictates what's modern. As Shereene said I would rather spend my money to buy gifts for friends and family, donate it or go on vacation than inject my hard earned money in my face. But to each their own!!! Thanks for your brilliant work, Shereene!!! 😘

As a mental health clinician I absolutely agree with your philosophy! No Wonder Woman of all ages, but especially 29 something’s have increased anxiety and depression that didn’t exist in past generations
@alibrasworld
@alibrasworld Месяц назад
Do you think that maybe it may seem like it didn’t exist in past generations because people did not take mental health as seriously so they wouldn’t go to professionals and get diagnosed ? Things like that heavily influences statistics. For the most part women of these generations have a much healthier mindset when it comes to "aging" than previous generations that considered themselves "old" at 30.
@staciacrick3373
@staciacrick3373 Месяц назад
@@alibrasworld I think that Gen Z had too many hover helicopters and overprotective parents. That was a big part in preventing taking risks, experimenting, and internalizing self-confidence and the ability to better emotionally regulate and tolerate emotional discomfort. Gen X explored the world with much less supervision(even though that is problematic, too). Still, I think this helped these people to have less anxiety/depression that comes from increased social and general fears that increase anxiety/depression. I'm a parent of a Gen Z and have noticed they have so many more fears that lead to increased mental health problems. Our culture with all its instant gratification that leads to not practicing emotional discomfort tolerance will lead to mental health problems. Its not rally about the specific problem,, but how one copes, receives support and gains insight that leads to specific outcomes. Genetics is part of this equation, too.

I am 47. I started botox a couple years ago because I had a couple very noticeable lines across the bridge of my nose between my brows from frowning. I am generally a nice and happy person but I have a strong "RBF". As a manager and someone who works in retail I was tired of looking angry and unapproachable. I found that the botox helps lift my brows and soften the perma frown I was developing. I use a pretty solid skin care routine and sunscreen everyday. I am noticing less lines and a more positive interactions with people. I got every 4 months and I am loving the results I get. I still look natural and like myself only from 5-10 years ago!

I work at a facial plastic surgery clinic- so I’ve been getting my face frozen for FREE since I was 33 years old… But 5 years later, I’m now coming to appreciate my MOVEMENT coming back again now that those static lines on my forehead are gone. Even with the unlimited resources around me- I let my face “go free” for months at a time. It’s refreshing & even youthful.

This is very important, thanks for the video. One other thing to realise is that you need to 'learn' your face when you grow up/age. You need to learn and see how you express yourself via your face. Throughout your life you learn how your face communicates with other people (this is also so important for people-facing jobs, for example teachers) - if you never find out, you are losing a part of your development. And another thing - the Internet ideas of ages are misleading. I am surrounded by women in their 40s and 50s now and most of them naturally look ~10 years younger than what the Internet makes you believe a woman that age looks like.

I second the comment that says a pillowtalk on filler -- specifically, your commentary on the messages floating around social media about dermal filler blocking lymphatic drainage and moving around the face over time causing various issues. I naturally have really hollow under eyes and a bit of a "sagged" look to my face (deep nasolabial lines) that has always been there. I'm only 25, so filler or other skin care treatments are something I really consider doing for myself because I'm extremely self-conscious about it and have been since a very young age, but I don't want to be put at risk for future issues. Lastly, THANK YOU for this discussion. It put my mind at ease and I hope to one day soon find a dermatologist as amazing and real as you are.

Every cosmetic injector should watch this, reflect and reset their moral compass if necessary. I’m in my 50’s and have taken good care of my skin, using sunscreen since my teens (which was not the norm in the 80’s & 90’s, but I have fair skin and would burn easily otherwise). I think my skin is holding up well. The lines on my forehead are minimal and I don’t have any 11’s. I could have been getting preventative Botox for the past three decades and would have spent a fortune on something that only now am I “needing” to consider. That’s a lot of money saved (and redirected towards sunscreen, retinol and other joys in life 😊). Life is about choices. Thank you for the giving us the power of better choices through the knowledge you share.

In my late 20s I heard about coworkers getting preventative Botox, which intrigued me because they were much younger than me. At my current age I do notice static lines in my frown at rest and they bother me, but I am still weighing the cost vs benefit. I had fun in my 20s, but I did spend a lot on skin care. I ruined my skin barrier at times using harsh products out of fear of aging. I really wish I didn’t spend so much money on products at that time, and instead focused just on moisturizer and sunscreen! Also:: would love a full length video on seb derm!!

I learned a lot about skin care and the industry following your advices and watching your videos. Because of how much you’ve educated this community, I feel that I had a very fair understanding of what Botox is and what it does even before watching this video. I developed my own idea around Botox in the last few years. I have spent months and years thinking about if I wanna stop movement in my face altogether and if it’s really worth the financial investment. I’m so overjoyed that as a recent 30 year old I am making smart decisions in my skin care routine and my choice of procedures thanks to your knowledge. I must add that with your amount of followers I admire that you shine a light on this topic and you delivered your thoughts in such a loving way. Thank you dr idriss ! ❤️ loved this video!

Thank you for putting this message out there. I know too many young people getting Botox. Also I learned something today. I didn’t know it was a powder and I had more fear of it until listening to this.❤

Hi Dr Idriss, I will turn 40 this October and my cousin is a 55 yr old plastic surgeon, he has been injecting Botox on himself and his wife for the past 15 years and they both look amazing. I decided to have him treat my forehead and frown lines as after so much sun for so many years an no sunscreen , and being so facial expressive, I literally developed a horrible “wi-fi” symbol on my forehead and the lines were sooo deep since my early 30’s. After following your advice, the “wi-fi” did in fact get a lot better, but I “complemented” it with Botox recently and my face now looks even, smooth and better than even in my teens as I suffered from acne; I continue following my skincare routine tailored for my skin type, thanks to you and I love the way my skin continues to improve each morning. ¡Saludos desde México!
