In this video I go over the main differences between Bones Big Balls bearings and the standard Bones Reds bearings and talk about wether or not you need bigger balls
I think the main selling point for big 6 balls for standard ball 7 ball bearings is: - You're able to hold speeds for longer (less pushing) with bigger bearing balls. Think of it as small wheels vs. big wheels. Bigger balls or bigger wheels means less rotational friction meaning speeds are kept better. There is a downside to this though, being that it requires more effort (more pushes) to get up to speed with bigger bearing balls.
i've skated bones reds for years for the price point, but was super impressed with bronson g3s i picked up on clearance. so much so that i got 2 more sets.
I’ve skated the G3’s before and was pretty impressed too! If they were the same price then it would be a better comparison but it’s sick you can get them on sale 👌🏽
I agree with you 100% on this conclusion, I skate super fast. all the time, so your right. These bearings are great for me. I blow out bearings all the time. I blew out Shake Junt's, Spitfires, and Andale's... These Bones Big Balls go hella fast and last long....One year in, still riding.
Best bang for buck imo. And keep those shields on they last forever. Might be all in my head but I think I roll for longer when I push with these. Especially in my cruiser setup.
been riding the Big Balls for about 1 year. Great bearings. Usually ride Bronson's G3. This Bearing is solid, its so smooth, and fast and consistent. In USA its Big Balls are $25 pair. Reds are about $18. Super Reds $30 Recently I've been seeing Bones Swiss for $50, was always about $60 Australians need better prices
@@LeonPaxton well Im California. So I pay the lowest prices for skate gear. you have shipping to deal with and import taxes. you need a trip to socal...come see all the spots and parks
I’ve had bad luck with all of my standard Swiss bearings dying on me within a fewmonths but the big 6 Ball version seem to always hold up! I go for the big 6 every time!
You should do a comparison of similar prices bearings to the china reds. I've always had the china reds and cos they're so cheap I never cared for them. But would get months of skating out of them no worries.
I’m a heavy (230lbs) skater and notice a significant difference between the performance of the big balls. As I understand, this is a primary advantage of the difference.
You can't increase the size of the balls without reducing the thickness of outer and inner rings. That means that the rings might be easier to brake and deform if you are doing high impact tricks. They seem to make more sense for rough grounds and transitions but less for jumping stairs and gaps. Theoretically, big balls should have more friction but reducing the number of balls might reduce the overall friction. Anyway 6 ball bearings mean that they are less structurally stable because the impact transfers through less contact points to the thinner rings. I'd say that these are 2 different types for 2 different applications.
I must have gotten a bunk set of big balls. They felt like they needed to be broken in when I first got them? Like they were smooth but felt held back if that makes sense. They were fine after a day or so, but they were also the only set of bearings I've had seize up on me without doing something dumb like ride through dirt a bunch. Like you say, they don't seem worth the price jump from reds and I've liked other bearings at the big balls price point better.
I liked how they rolled, but found that the cages in the bearings kept on breaking and the broken pieces would then cause the bearings to seize. This would happen to multiple bearings. I went through 3 sets before I gave up on them.

this video was really good quality, weird that you aren't more popular, algorithm doing you dirty same with me, tho my content isnt as good as yours, algorithm still does me dirty though cause like some of these green screen kids get so much views and shit from doing nothing and people who have actual hobby's like skating get fucked by the algorithm 😂 but honestly idc i mostly make the content to look back at it again when im better at skating.
Only bearings I’ve had blow out on me so far are Reds and Big Balls. I can’t say I felt any difference between the two. But from my experience Reds go bad pretty darned quick. Having ridden Race Reds, Super Reds, Reds Big Balls, Reds, Bronson G3s, Bronson Raws and Shake Junt Tripple OGs I’d say the Raws are great but not nexessarily for long and otherwise the Super and Race Reds are quality and long lasting. One day I’ll spend some money on some of the higher end bearings.
Oh really? That sucks man! I’ve had Bronson G3’s before and they were pretty good but I really want to try Bronson Raws so it’s good to hear that they’re decent 🙏🏽 Yeah it’s always hard to pay too much money when you can get decent bearings for cheap lol
I bought two pair of the big balls when they first came out. . . first pair lasted 2 weeks and blew out. . second set I blew out after 2 or so months. . I've skated since 1988 , so I've skated just about everything that has existed, will never buy them again. I only skate Swiss now or Rockin Ron's bearings which are as good as Swiss but hard to get these days as he is a small time producer.
Best gimmick for your bucks you mean!. Removing shields could make them sound better and perhaps make them i little bit faster the first session. Unless they give them for free is nonsense.
Your bearings also would last longer if you DONT POP THE BEARING SHIELDS OFF 🤦🏼♂️ Omg people don’t pop the bearing shields off your bearings the bearing shields are there for a reason and you will save money in the long run if you leave the bearing shields on because you won’t be replacing your bearings as much and your bearing will last a lot longer It’s not worth having dirt, gravel and other crap getting in your bearing because the bearing shields are there to keep that out and from getting into your bearings giving your bearing a longer longevity of life and ultimately not having to waste money on more bearings just because you think ruining your bearings by taking the bearing shields off just because it “looks cool” 🙄
I don’t advise it but I don’t mind buying new bearings if they happen to blow out lol None of my bearings have ever broken or seized up from doing this either 🤷🏽♂️
