I find it absolutely hilarious that your mom wouldnt let you try unnecessary new things and now you have a channel dedicated to trying new and often unnecessary things hahah 😂😂
Went in the comment section looking for this comment!Exactly what I said in my mind! 🤣 I don't blame her!! Lip smackers were always tempting to try them all!!😂
OJ was my nickname in middle school because I used Sunny Delight as a weapon against a bully in 7th grade. I poured it all over her head. She deserved it. So yeah, Sunny Delight has a special place in my heart 30+ years later.
Bonne Bell Lipsmackers used to come in GIANT size and my fave was Dr. Pepper… I’m 61 and my dad used to put a sleeve of Lipsmackers in my stocking every year. They came in a candy cane tube shape…great memories of cool flavours…7 Up!😄
I had a giant root beer one. I remember it was thought to be cool to carry one in your back pocket so that it was immediately within reach should you have a dry lip emergency 😂
I made a German chocolate cake as a youngster who didn't really cook. Accidentally mixed the frosting pouch in the cake mix. Dad said it was the best cake he ever had and only wants it baked that way since. He called it The Mistake Cake.
Yeah I remember the dunkaroo’s being kangaroo shaped. I also remember getting then in not only the chocolate flavor but a funfetti (vanilla frosting w/sprinkles mixed in) flavor as well.
Everything you said about icees and Kmart was absolutely the same experience I had! Did you also have popcorn? I would get a cherry icee and small buttered popcorn! 12:45 that cereal sounds awful! 😂😂😂
The most random spin off of this. I just want Emmy to get a pack of all the soda flavoured Lip Smackers and then taste them alongside the actual drinks.
I was thinking about this while watching this too! Like I remember the Dr. Pepper one the most, but I could never get it, because my mom was the same way as Emmy's mom, lol.
I'm really old (born 1974), But I remember before Sunny D or even Sunny Delight there was a drink called 5 Alive that was a blend of 5 different citrus fruits that my dad would always get in a carton like milk. That stuff was sooooo good.
@@lancerevell5979 We were a military family in the Mid-Atlantic area and my Dad always shopped at the Commissary, so it could have been a regional thing. All I know is that it brings back the best of memories.
I remember the 70's lunch snacks. Pudding was in small tin cans. Hostess Ho Ho's and Ding Dongs were wrapped in thin foil wrap. The Jello cups still look the same.
Another child of the 70s here! I remember the (I think it was) Lip Smackers that came in little tins that you slid the top over/off to get the stuff out. In my area (mid Michigan) you could only get them at certain stores, that my family couldn't afford. We would go to Spencer's and they had the best selection! Oh the memories! 😂
My son was a child of the 80s and I asked him if he’d had Dunkaroos, because I didn’t really remember anything but the name. He said he did have and remember them, and the shape was a kangaroo shape not a coin shape. I sometimes wonder if things tend to taste different than they tasted in our childhood because our tastebuds matured, or if the taste different because they changed the formulation.
I still remember the lipsmacker song off by heart. "Lipsmackers, lipsmackers, we go wild about strawberry, strawberry! We go ape over grape, bubblegum is so yum, watermelon fun they're so lipsmackin good" etc
Omg the Kmart icee memory! We’d get icees and Little Caesar’s pizza every time my parents went to do a layaway payment. Thank you for bringing back that memory!
For some reason the Skittles flavored Lip Smackers are an entirely different texture than the classics. Way less dry and waxy. They're the best ones in my opinion, but my friends were all obsessed with Dr Pepper. Oh, also, if you're prone to nosebleeds, a little bit of Lip Smacker applied to your pinkie then VERY gently rubbed into a dry nostril is an actual game-changer (with the added bonus of smelling rather pleasant). Sorry if that's a bit gross, but if it helps someone...
Bonne Bell selling was their kiss of death. The current Lip Smackers are a far cry from where they were and the Bonne Bell line is completely gone. Such a shame
I loved the scratch and sniff stickers/books. Some nasty fake smells like chocolate, but it was so fun. I was a huge strawberry shortcake fan and loved the scented figurines. I grew up with the Hi-C drinks in the paper cartons. Delicious 🤣 thanks for the fun flashback!
Lip smackers were insanely expensive when I was a kid. They weren't chapstick sized in the '70's they were 3"long and 1"wide and were $5 each. I got 1 for my 10th birthday (Dr Pepper flavor) and never got another one. When I was 50 I found out they still made them in 8 packs. I bought the classic set too.
I had that flavor when I was about 10-12! I think Lip Smackers made a resurgence in the early 2000s and I tried to collect all the glittery ones. The strawberry kiwi was the best though.
I was briefly confused when you said 80s, because I was a 90s baby and we had ALL these same things! You're right that the dunkaroos were kangaroo shaped (and frankly more substantial as a cookie). I loved the icing with sprinkles best. Also...do the kids not know about icees?
I remember Dunkeroos as being kangaroo shaped, too. A lunchbox staple in gradeschool! Also, ironically, the watermelon and vanilla Lip Smackers were my go-to flavors, even through college 😂
We were definitely a Jell-O family growing up in the late 80s and 90s. My mom made it all the time for dessert. My favorite was Jell-O 123 which sadly hasn't been made in about 30 years now. You mixed it and poured into bowls and as it set, it separated into three layers. I wish they still made that.
The best Lip Smacker was Dr. Pepper. I’ve been using it since I was a kid but sadly it has been discontinued. I have a few left in my stash and have been using them sparingly. 😂
My mom would fill my thermos with Ramen during the winter. By the time lunch came along, the noodles had absorbed all the liquid. It was soooooo good! We rarely got any drinks other than Kool-aid when I was a child. Lip smackers came in little tins that slid open and you had to use your finger. Dunk-a-roos came in 2 flavors when I was younger. Chocolate or vanilla. I didn't get to enjoy most of the treats you featured until I was a teen.
Hi Emmy ..it's so fun to run down memory lane huh🥳 I remeber the Jello pudding pops ,those were so delicious ,esp the chocolate ones. The bonne belle lipsmackers came in giant tubes too ,I remember wanting either the bubblegum or strawbery . 🍓😋
There was a fizzy drink called Tahiti Treat in the 80s. I'm not sure it was popular, because it seems like I dreamed it up and it never really existed..... no one seems to remember it. But I remember absolutely loving it! And then it disappeared completely...
You are remembering correctly regarding the product, however it was called ‘Tahitian Treat’. I loved it as a kid, and I still get a periodic craving for it, and I’m almost 68 yrs old.
@@dedet6900 That's interesting, I never remember it being called Tahitian Treat, just Tahiti Treat. But then again I was pretty young when it was around. It was so delicious and I think of it often.
I also remember, way back in elementary school, Sunny D was super popular and my mom only bought it for my older brother and I once. I thought it was just orange juice, but it's not and I didn't like it. I stuck with capri sun and kool-aid!
What about the giant Sweettarts?? Not the chewy ones, but the regular. They were as big as a half dollar and came in a package of three-cherry, grape and lemon. I dream about them often and I'm not the only one.
I collect chapsticks and lip balms. I have about 400 in my collection total. I only have about 25 of the lip smacker brand, but I’d love to have the whole set… You know >.> for collectibility purposes
I remember when Sunny Delight launched in the UK in the mid to late 90s. That stuff was sooooo gloopy and sooooo sweet. We were all addicted until one girl turned orange from drinking too much of it. It's never tasted the same. Definitely awful for us, but so delicious.
I preferred cherry coke or dr pepper lip smackers, but I do remember kiwi and strawberry as a 90s kid. Sunny D tastes different in my memory too, but it does still burn my throat in my memories.
Kissing Potion! That's what it's called. When she got out the Lip Smackers I thought of that but couldn't remember the name. I remember it tasting good and sweet but the tacky stickiness of it was kinda gross.
My favorite childhood treat was Cracker Jacks I always wanted them for the cool prizes but then they stopped putting the toys in the box and went with those stickers!!!
Even as a 93 baby our local kmart had the little cafeteria as well and I definitely remember the ICEE brand. I know it's weird and placebo based, but I swear Slushie/slurpie type drinks are wonderful during a hangover.
Oh Lip Smackers! I graduated in 1979. I remember the big fat ones. Grape was my favorite. I had a bunch of them but Grape and probably Strawberry were the best. We also wore essential oils as perfume. Bought them at Spencer's! Strawberry, Orange, Patchouli. I hated the musk. And vanilla was just too sweet. I still buy Sunny D. My Grands love it.
We still have them here in Australia, I bought them for my kiddos once for the nostalgia… they both hated them… then I tried it and did not like it either, not like I did as a kid
Not sure if this was only in Canada but they recently came out with Tahiti Treat with vodka and it tastes just like the OG Tahiti Treat pop we had as kids. 😋
I totally agree with you about artificial sweetener!! I hate it and won't use it...and I'm diabetic!! In a lot of ways, it's worse for you than sugar because it's chemicals.
Loved Lip Smackers as a kid. I'm from Ohio and the Lip Smacker brand was produced by Bonnie Bell in Westlake, Oh. I remember these from the 70's when they came in an oversized, giant tube. I remember getting a "sherbet" flavored gift pack for my 10th birthday. Good memories!
Oh, I was all about lip smackers and Bonne Bell growing up! Nothing has changed in adulthood-I’m still obsessed with lip balm, apply them frequently (I can’t stand dry lips), and own more than the average person. These days though, I favor the eos brand.
My treats were Star Crunch and peanut brittle. :) But, Emmy, you have to see if you can find the soda flavors of Lip Smackers! Those were the best ones! Especially, Dr. Pepper!
FYI: Sunny Delight DID change their formula, mainly because of a specific artificial orange flavoring they used, was determined to be a cancer risk, and was banned by the FDA. All products that used it either disappeared or were reformulated using a different artificial orange flavoring. Tang also had to be reformulated, because they used the same flavoring. (this is also why you can't get orange Crystal Light any more, instead of reformulating, they just dropped the flavor entirely.)
lol that Sunny D seltzer sounds awful. I can't have fake sugars either. I imagine they didn't color it the same as the "juice"' because then people could claim that their kids mixed it up or they didn't know it was not alcohol or some weird thing. The Dunkaroos definitely were Kangaroo shaped. The Icee cereal looks like the crunchberries from Capn Crunch.
My neighbor's daughter just introduced my daughter to Sunny D last night. She ran to grab some she had put in the freezer and was so excited for my daughter to try this half-frozen sweet treat. It was so charming!
I've tried Sunny D as someoen who didn't grow up drinking it or really eating much sugary cereal or snacks, and I think it can be accurately described like this: Orange juice made by someone who'd never tasted an orange, but had the flavor described to them or had a far-off memory of orange flavor.
The dunkaroos aren't like they used to be. the cookies were shaped different as you said, and better quality. I don't remember having chocolate frosting with them, only ever had the funfetti growing up. Also, I also prefer the original burts bees! Something about the cooling sensation has trained me to stop chewing on my lips lol.
I distinctly remember getting the lip smackers pack for a birthday one year and I got the soda flavors. Oh my goodness, the sprite flavor and the orange fanta? I was in heaven. I highly reccomend the soda lip smackers if you want a bit of nostalgia. :)
I wanted the large size lipsmacker but my parents truly never gave in to buying fads or popular things. I finally got a grape one and I treasured that thing so much. As an adult I got a Dr Pepper one and I used it but didn't love it quite as much as I thought I would. Theses things are definitely memories!
I also grew up in the 80's and I was obsessed with the little Lip Lickers lip balm that came in the little tins. I remember Lip Smackers too though. And I wish Jello pudding pops would come back. Those were awesome!
Dunkaroos were a luxury back in the days. I'm amazed that the brand has retained it's high pricepoint over the years. Thanks for the vid! It really brought back the nostalgic feels.
1980 baby My go to drink as a kid was just kool aid if I was inside. More often than not I was outside and we just drank out of the water hose. When I was a kid we had a slush puppy machine in the cafeteria.
The dunkeroo Chocolat flavor used to be chocolat chip cookie in diffenrents shapes here in Canada. There was also the vanilla flavor and the confeti flavor. The cookie also were much thiker and darker. They were much better before.
I buy sunny D for my son. When I was a kid there was two flavours Florida style and California style. I don’t think it tastes the same now as when I was a kid. I’m in the uk though
From the little bit of research that I did the Dunkaroos cookies where not kangaroo shaped there was a Kangaroo in the tv commercial. But it looks like the cookies have always been round.
