Avenger's Mansion: while it's hard to play this during the mid-game, I think it's worth it. It's not just "one extra card," it's a drastic shift in the economy of what you're able to buy. How many times have you needed one more resource to play that second card? Think of how many people hate Hulk and She-Hulk because of the hand size. It's only one less than most --but it's a large shift in card economy.

Good point with needing larger hands with Hulk/She-Hulk

Not only a shift in economy, but in possibilities also. You have more options to choose from each turn following its play.

Avenger's Mansion and Nick Fury are still some of the first cards I put in every deck; they are also some of the first cards I take out if I want to trim the deck down to reach a certain card count. Additionally, like Ironheart and Prof X, Fury is part of my go-to Ally package unless I am running a more Tribal Ally package (ie Avengers, Web Warriors, Guardians, etc).

Using Nick to remove 2 threat then use his thwart to remove 2 from a different sheme or 4 in total. Makes it more viable. Same said for his deal 4 damage then attack for 2. 6 damage I total

Nick has been somewhat replaced by X for me, but i still run him sometimes. Mansion for me never really sees play anymore. It's pretty much completely replaced by helicarrier now. 1 less cost, does almost the same thing, multiple players can have it, and it can be tutored with build support

I actually play Nick Fury more now than before. Nick was considered an “auto-include” in the early days, and that’s kinda boring for me, so I avoided him. Today, he’s not used as much, so I’m more open to giving him a shot. I know that’s a dumb reason, but I’m weird like that.

Avengers Mansion is the best card in the game. The problem with Fury is half his power is being a blocker, since he is dying anyway... but he does nothing to do that on a turn where you are in Alter-Ego. So he isn't as strong in every situation. Drawing a a card is almost always powerful.

Nick Fury - Yes, unless it's a centered on a specific trait. Still amazing for defense, value and card cycling. Mansion - only select heroes, namely ones with good resource generation but low card draw like Cap America, Spectrum, SPDR, Psylocke, etc.

Great video D20! Always like these discussions. I have found myself playing these older cards more recently when I see some of the new power content creators using them. If web warrior can take down venom goblin on expert and HE runs mansion…well maybe I should be using it too. Ha ha

If I use enough grey cards and also use The Power In All of Us, then a lot of times I include both and when I use a SHIELD build, then of course, I include Nick. If not, I rarely use either of them, maybe 10% of the time or less. Nick is too expensive if I don't have a double, same as Mansion. I think both cards are still pretty solid and depends on your playstyle more than anything.
@gggggggggggggggg
@gggggggggggggggg 4 месяца назад
Both of these are cards that almost always start in my deck durring the build process and may get cut. Rough estimation, each card probably has about a 50-60% inclusion rate, but probably around 70% of my decks have at least one of them.
@markzsombor6059

Nick is still solid. There are more options so he doesn't make it in as many decks but he's still generally worth a deck slot. Avengers Mansion is a multiplayer card. The games last longer so you have more opportunity to get the value out, and is extremely useful in helping out other players that are playing small handsize heroes. There's always someone at the table who draws their hand and could use just one more card. Its not worth it in true solo.

Still use Fury all the time. Avengers Mansion less so, but in multiplayer I always want someone to have at least one at the table.

I played a multiplayer game with my kids this morning and couldn’t get avengers mention out. Ithere was just to much to deal with when I finally had access to it. It’s great in the early game in multiplayer but mid game or later and it just becomes a resource, to be honest. It’ll still be in play as most of our games go 8 to 12 rounds, but if I’m playing solo and going for speed it doesn’t make the cut. We still use Nick Fury but I’m kind of finding him less and less useful. We’ve only been playing for about 3 months, so we aren’t veterans, but trading 4 cards for 3 to get 2 damage and a blocker hasn’t been as nice as other big damage or thwart cards in my hand. Like I said, we are still learning the game from guys like you, d20, but not sold on how viable Nick is. Great conversation starter.

It depends. If the hero has resource cards (black Panther, captain marvel, gambit) I feel there is no reason to leave Avenger's mansion out. There should also be an opportunity to use it in every deck getting a weak encounter card. For 2 players it works wonders too. As for Nick Fury, unless you have the requirement for Moon Girl, he is such a versatile card to use (unless you run on avengers / xmen / champions etc).

Totally agree with you there. I feel like Fury is a more flexible option and Mansion is pretty situational, but i still add both of them most of the time.

So for my main group we've ran Standard 2 as the baseline for a while now, so Avengers Mansion has never been in a deck since then. It got ran a couple times and it just basically guarantees you are discarding the highest cost upgrade or support you control in 1 to 2 rounds. I know its random, but that happened sevral games in a row. Excited to see Standard 3, may be able to run Mansion again depending on what they use there. If I'm doing Solo League or something I'll still include it on very rich heroes sometimes. I think it will be great with Bishop. We still run Fury quite often. 2 ER amd going through your deck faster is still excellent value. He's not an autoinclude, but he hits quite a few decks still, especially if running power in all of us, which basic has gotten so good, is pretty frequent. I actually hope they reprint it since a full collection only has 2 right now

Oh man, I love having both of those cards. In my Strange Pool deck and my expert 2 Spider-Man deck, they are essential. The card draw and cycling is a huge part of drawing the right solutions. I’ve always drawn Nick and felt relief, and every turn after I play Mansion, I’m thankful for it. It’s just hard to let a fire go for one or two extra rounds. I don’t put mansion in EVERY deck, but it is in any deck that leans into a hero kit or has Power in All of Us

Heyo! Just asked you about this, thanks for the discussion. I think getting three cards is very helpful if your deck is built for card turnover. Using AM only makes sense if you draw it early. Otherwise it’s a bit of a space taker.
@jongahimer5338
@jongahimer5338 4 месяца назад
I know your perspective is generally based on true solo, at which point the cards become harder to justify. It’s also worth pointing out that the extra draw from Mansion is not always useful in Solo. If you use mansion and at the end of your turn still have 1 card in hand you can’t play, then you didn’t need the mansion draw that turn. In multiplayer you can bypass this by giving what would be your dead draw to a team mate. Ramp/long-term strats are also generally better at higher player counts. Fury is probably better than mansion solo because he generates more immediate pressure/tempo between his abilities attack/thwart and block.

Nick Fury, I still play “mostly” especially with Hero with a card I want out early (by drawing the deck out). With Mansion, it’s auto include if I’m playing with hero with low curve, 4 handsize, or with Power in All of Us. Otherwise, not worth it.
@BVelky83

Fury can help fix decks that have issues with card draw or even trying to get damage through. People sleep on the 4 damage into a 2 damage attack if you are playing a board control hero. As for Avengers Mansion, I only play when playing in a 3 player game. Those games tend to go longer and more drawn out, plus letting a teammate draw a card can sometimes help them go off.

Nick Fury to me is still an insanely good card and I use him in most of my decks. Avengers Mansion I'd say is an okay card unless you're running the power in all of us, then it's a great card. I have not used Avengers Mansion is quite a while honestly.
@johnwaynemcclung8056

Nick Fury is my most commonly used ally; it's rare for me NOT to include him. I actually didn't use him for probably my first year of play, then finally saw his value once I started using him. It's rare for me to use Avenger's Mansion though. I used it all the time my first year playing and then realized it was very rare for me to actually play it. If I run a heavy Basic Deck and include The Power In All of Us resource cards, then I'll usually include Avenger's Mansion. Other than that, I mostly only include it with Psylocke as an automatic addition because she can get it into play so easily. It's one of the reasons why I find Psylocke to be such a strong hero for me personally. Thanks for the video!

For me at least, avengers mansion has moved to be an almost multiplayer exclusive card, when i play solo if i don't play it turn 1 or 2 the it becomes a resources to advance the game plan of my hero and putting 2 copies of it in the deck is a waste for me ( if it had a wild resource, tha would be different. And Nick fury, unless i'm playing a shield deck he never find a spot in ny decks, mostly because "x is gonna give it to ya" give me a better effect (confuse) and the same block cheaper. One of the cards that i used a lot and now, even if i include it in my deck never use, is team building exercise although i build most of my deck around keywords, it never give me enough discounts in the game to justify playing it.
@dojimaryu
@dojimaryu 4 месяца назад
When there's a spot left for a card in the deck and I have to choose then I'll pick Nick over Mansion. I don't think Mansion Is a bad card at all and playing like at the beginning of the game can be worth It in the long run, but I think Nick is more useful in general. It let's you draw cards and "mulligan" more, maybe you are on the last push and you need more damage or you can remove more threats in general, and obiouvsly he can block. So yeah Nick all the way.

I have never played a deck without Nick Fury in it. In my opinion he and X are the best cards ever printed. Now Avengers mansion I used to run all the time back in the day but I don’t run it nearly as much as I used to.

I play thematically, and I’ve mostly been playing X-Men, so have rarely used those cards in my decks.
@DeannaGilbert616
@DeannaGilbert616 4 месяца назад
I think the issue with both cards is the 4 cost. But ultimately, I think these cards are probably getting to the point of a lot of other cards…the need to really interrogate if this card actually WORKS for your deck, not just is an auto-include. Like, if you have Team Building Exercise and you’re running an Avengers hero, that makes Avengers Mansion more efficient. And the SHIELD archetype now really synergizes with Fury a lot better.

I'm a new player a it sucks to hear the phrase "back in the day" when I have not played the game enough to know. Now I feel like I'm soo behind on newer cards and it turns me off to keep on going since seasoned players have the "better" stuff.
@D20Woodworking
@D20Woodworking 4 месяца назад
It's not a matter of having better stuff. There are A LOT of experienced players who still run these cards constantly. The reference to back in the day is that everyone used these cards because there was nothing else to use. Now we have options. Just because there are newer cards doesn't make them better.
@stephenball2108

I don’t play Avengers Mansion at all anymore. I even cut it from Star-Lord. It’s just so clunky to get into play and doesn’t directly affect the board state. If your deck already runs Power in All of Us I could see playing a copy, but in general I’m more a fan of lowering the cost curve of my deck. Nick Fury I play sometimes, but pretty much only when I have ally synergy in my deck. If I’m running Regroup or something he gets much better, but as an expensive neutral ally I think at this point Professor X is just better almost every time.
@ddookhar
@ddookhar 4 месяца назад
This is a very weird take to me. I cycle my deck 4+ times per encounter. Mansion/Nick Fury enable that to happen. The more you cycle your deck the more often you get to use your deck's best cards and therefore the more likely you are to win. Not to mention you can give another player the card draw and at a table of 3-4p where there are 2+ Mansions on the field, the entire group speeds up and becomes so much more efficient so quickly I cant imagine why by default this card isn't a first choice when deck building. At my table, if you dont include some combination of mansion/helicarrier you have to make a really strong case for yourself because you are denying the TEAM momentum.
@D20Woodworking
@D20Woodworking 4 месяца назад
We play very different. I will barely cycle on my deck on most games. Usually win near the end of my first pass. You also sound like you’re playing 3-4 player a lot which I rarely do.
@ddookhar
@ddookhar 4 месяца назад
@@D20Woodworking yes i play exclusively on 3-4p. I do wish when discussing this game people made it clear that their points are about solo/2p/3-4p instead of assuming solo or multiplayer is default tho. Solo is so different to multiplayer its almost not even the same game anymore tbh. also card scaling at 1 or 4p is just terrible. 2/3p is the only time i think the card scaling works as intended.
