Doan engages his former squad mates. Despite being in a damaged and older mobile suit he holds his own showing his prowess as an ace pilot. From Cucuruz Doan's Island
What a mix of emotions, the guy who's pissed off with his team mate who rejected the team, the woman who's in love with him and the outsider who's almost orgasmic about being killed by him.
Amuro Ray: *throws away the old Zaku into the ocean* "There, you won't fight anymore." Cucuruz Doan: "Thanks. I always wanted an upgrade anyway." *cue to the two other Zaku High Mobility units at the underground base after Amuro stabbed and stomped both Zeon pilots previously*
"Surely if we attack him one at a time while being cartoonishly villainous enough, we will win!" I mean, it *almost* worked, I guess I shouldn't joke too much.
The TV Tropes website calls it "Mook Chivalry": Its first rule is: "Mooks must always attack the hero one at a time; to gang up would be to destroy the principle of war."
There is some merit to this irl If you don't have experience fighting ae a group with clear roles and teamwork trying to engage in a melee fight together is counterproductive What you should do is surround the guy and take turns diving in and backing off. As soon as one person engages the next is ready to follow up
Except it actually makes sense in this case. It's worth noting they tried to get Danan to back off, because rushing in like that didn't give Selma a clear shot at him. She's using a bazooka. If she misfires and hits Danan, that's pretty catastrophically bad. That's why she didn't immediately follow up (and you can see that she tried to close the gap, but just couldn't get there before Doan fucked him up). As for why Egba did literally nothing the entire time, that one isn't really hard to figure out. It's pretty clear that, given the chip on his shoulder that'd make Atlas blush, he wanted to be able to say he could beat Doan all on his own. It's stupid, but it's plausible for reasons beyond narrative convenience. Ultimately, I think Yasuhiko knew that having Doan somehow beat all THREE at once would just be entirely too anime, to the point where it'd strain believability. It's the same reason he had two of them taken out of commission by Amuro before they ever got to be in the mix. No matter how skilled Doan is, nobody has an answer to getting hosed down with all that gunfire in open space. Eventually, someone's going to hit him.
2:12 I love that, Doan getting to do the famous pose of the RX-78-2 landing after bisecting a Zaku II with its beam saber, except this time on a Zaku with the heat hawk
Dude A: Charges headlong into a fight against his chosen idol. Dude B: Atagonizes, watches. Chick: Appears to be unwilling to fight Doan, but also refuses to let her comrades be slaughtered. Attempts to run, dies in defensive action.
The Head Vulcans have some kickass sound design. Despite being (relatively) low caliber, when the High Mobility Zaku is shot with them it feels like an artillery bombardment.
They're pretty high caliber to everything in Gundam except other mobile suits. One MS was able to hold down a hangar bay on axis in Char's deleted affair using it's Vulcans. If you wanna see a similar weapon designed for ms on ms combat check out the Dom Barrage.
Just noticed the helmet emblems for the Southern Cross have coloured stars for each member. Whacko had red in the bottom right, nuke finder guy had blue in top left, woman had blue in bottom left, boss had green at the top and i guess the other guy was red on top right. EDIT Last guy had a green star on the top right and was killed by the Gundam in the base.
Glad that we actually got Zaku's and other mobile suits absolutely throwing their weapons at their opponents when they out of ammo. 😁 Also, so polite to attack their commanding officer one at a time.
It's too avoid friendly fire. Playing GBO2, it's better to wait until either your friendlies run away to take the shot or get downed escape. else you'll just be doing more harm than good.
Well they can't just shoot all at once in an area like that and also stupid of them to use fewer long range weapons, its probably because they never expected some mobile suit being active there since the info never scanned something
This is proof that just because something is new and cutting edge doesn't mean that something from two generations ago piloted by someone who knows what they're doing can STILL KICK SOME FUCKING ASS!
Its not even a generation old, they were both built in the same year. The high mobility Zaku ground types were just mid-war modifications to let them keep up new fed suits. Doan's also a ground specialist and an ace going up against worse skilled comrades, he knows how they all fight, this just a case of his abusing everything he knows to counter what he doesn't know.
Sortied a GM sniper II against Unicorn era suits like ZZ, Xekuwei and jesta shezzar teams (550c in 650c room) and still causing massive damage, denying legs, Edit: should add the context is about GBO2,
@@IshmaelDoe cross fire, you don't shoot into a melee first guy rushes in, can't shoot or you risk friendly fire second girl was fucked, can't dusengage without dying anyways
I love this fight, but with me having played some of the older armoured core games, I noticed something that Doan was doing that really made me happy. The way he's hopping throughout the fight to keep up with the high mobilities is pretty much the exact same thing everyone did in the old games before AC4, since your generator couldn't handle boosting for long at all and your mobility without boosting/overboosting was so bad, people would do the exact same thing of boosting and using the momentum gained to move quicker without wasting energy, so seeing Doan do the exact same thing to allow his beat up old Zaku II to keep up with High Mobility Zaku's that are in much better condition was such a cool moment for me personally.
I've been pretty hard on the CGI of Igloo/Unicorn/Origin and Hathaway's Flash for being really stiff and distracting but its honestly pretty good here, flows into the 2D segments way better than the past attempts. If they keep up this level of quality I wouldn't mind seeing CGI in Gundam as much.
I feel like they did it on purpose in the Origin films, they moved like classic real robots there. Zero-G is fair game though, they were pretty damn quick in space lol. The fact that Tomino couldn't give less of a damn about the Doan's Island episode meant that the dudes in charge of this film could take more liberties with mobile suit movement, which imo is more in-line with Yasuhiko's original artstyle in the manga and the original 0079 series in general, as opposed to the Origin's less flashier take.
No it absolutely doesn't. Even with it's production issues and the reused animations it's a great deal better than the vast majority of mecha (and to be frank the vast majority of all) anime of the current day, most of which suffer from too much brevity and not enough wit.
@@WeWillAlwaysHaveVALIS remastered not a remake. Animation was charming but sloppy even in its own time. Should keep the original sountrack and sound effects but the visuals need an overhaul.
@@s0nnyburnettI mean I feel that they can redo it as the MSG the origin. Personally I like the reworks to the story with the whitebase getting Jaburo and the introduction of the GM's before Odessa, it puts it more in line with other OYW series like 08th and war in the pocket. Not that I hate the old series but I think it will make it more paletteable for the newer fans.
@@WeWillAlwaysHaveVALISno you’re just being a nostalgia addict. The ost is extremely dated and needs a massive upgrade as well as filleting episode the OG down episode put me to sleep literally I missed by bus stop. It was cancelled earlier and suffers the same problem with all other fundamental shows that were cut short and their 2nd half suffered immensely.
Gundam always has such amazing plot armor. These battles never make any sense. I wish just once that they would do a battle that is accurate to how a real battle would take place instead of all the mellow drama.
The one thing I never get abut these mechas is they have all this time to show the interior, clearly time to eject, but no eject mechanism is ever present.
That's because Zakus weren't designed with an eject mechanism. The Gundam itself has one(the Core Fighter), and there's other Mobile Suits later that have less costly, complex ejectors, I think.
@@Nehfarius Somehow I suspect that an ejector seat would be the least expensive part of a mech that moves like a human with a trained pilot being one of the more expensive parts of the whole unit
@@michaelkovalsky4907 That's fair, but you never know what Zeon's spending all that money on. Crappy Mobile Armors and Gihren's giant overcompensation laser are safe bets, tho, with Dozle funneling some of it toward the Big Zam, because greatness does not pay for itself.
@@michaelkovalsky4907 You say that, but it was a real problem with the F-35 for a while, the most expensive jet ever produced, that ejecting might kill you. Wasn't about speed or anything either I believe, just an issue with the canopy.
@@Newt0rz it’s been a known issue with fighters since the f-4 phantom. It’s not just the f35’s. 1/4 of the time ejecting from a jet will leave the pilot seriously injured or dead from hitting the canopy. It’s an issue with the explosive bolts, canopy designs, canopy glass and high speeds. The older jets like the Sabre didn’t really have the issue because the explosive bolts broke the glass but the super sonic jets need stronger glass cause of the speeds and it doesn’t break easy or catch the wind right sometimes to get out of the way.
@@slideways_sideways1803 The dude is taking on several High-performance units that could almost be considered Doms in Zaku costumes in the Zaku equivalent of a self build Jalopy made of scraps! And WINNING!!! You expect me to believe Char or Norris could top that? Not that they aren't amazing pilots, far from it, but you're basically missing the details here!
@@MasterSwo-MK You’re forgetting that the schmucks Doan is fighting aren’t aces and aren’t very experienced. I should also point out he starts losing to the final guy, who isn’t an ace…and you’re going to tell me that Doan can solo Johnny Ridden? One of the top aces and a member of the Chimera Corps, aka the group comprised of the best of the best of Zeon? Yeah, okay. Just look up MSG Engage Johnny Ridden and tell me Doan can top that. Also if you think Doan can beat Norris, you clearly are giving these guys too much credit because the people he was facing is not even on Norris’ level at all. Having a high-performance MS doesn’t mean crap when the pilot is terrible. Also the Zaku II High Mobility Ground Type was inferior to the other High Mobility Type Zaku IIs. It’s mobility is closer to a Dom but not on equal par. If you look at how they move in the video they are clearly not making use of its mobility, they’re just treating them like regular Zaku that can hover slide (which most aces in HMTs do not do). It’s also a case of Doan knows them and how they fight, so he already has an advantage.
Imagine being about to win, about to kill the guy thst just killed two of your own men In Front of you, and then literal Baba Yaga Satan himself shows up on the horizon
The animation here is top tier. All that mobility gear is dead weight that keeps them on a single axis of movement, If there were in DOM’s then maybe they would have stood a chance speed wise.
They didn't really have plot armor, they were all ace pilots. Gabby Hazard, Johnny Ridden, and Shin Matsunaga all survived the OYW as Zeon aces. People forget that Char wasn't at the top of the leaderboard as an MS pilot on zeon's side he was just a main character.
i want the entire original show to look like this. i showed my friend the Origin movies and they liked them but was turned off by the dated visuals when i showed them the OG.
@@JamesKim-m7f yeah, the Vulcans usually cause some superficial damage and they certainly can throw you off guard because your instincts are yo guard or dodge. Best thing about the Vulcan rounds would be if it damages camera systems or critical joints. Not everything on the MS is fully armored. It's usually not that effective in depictions.
