My Westie does that all the time on walks! He also does that with horses, people, and my neighbor’s Doberman that looks like this one but with floppy ears.😂
Classic Westie, fearless, behaviour. All my 5 Westies were like this.I got 4 more Westies after my first one died as she left an empty void but the new 4 soon filled it and now I have fond, loving memories of all 5 darling Westies:)
One of my Westies was sort of half attacked by a doberman as a puppy. When she became an adult she attacked every doberman she saw. I had to put her on a lead as soon as i saw a doberman.
Regardless of the Doberman's temperament, due to it's instincts, it knows it's the alpha and would have no reason to attack the westie, at worst the westie would be trying to assert dominance, and the doberman would be giving stern reminders as to who the alpha is
We have a Westie and a Doberman. I cannot believe someone said, "Get em." The Westies tail is tucked. His bark is shrill. This is a stressed Westie. When they are having fun that little carrot tail is going ninety-miles an hour. Doberman's are wonderful, gentle dogs and Westies are little scrappers, but one moment of over-exuberance by the Doberman could end it all. This is so unwise and not fun for the Westie when the dogs come to a natural resting place and someone yells, Get em so they can get more footage.
I also had a Westie at the same time as one of my Dobies . She was always overwhelmed by the Doberman. Possibly just by his size. This dog in the video is stressed…. They should’ve put a stop to it. I’ve also had multiple Dobies at the same time. They play very roughly, and generally like it.
LaVonne Hammans Jessy and Wyatt and best friends. Jessy - Westie is the boss. If I drop a piece of food on accident. The Doberman knows not to even look at the food. They are only playing here. It looks scary. But it’s how they play. Jessys tail is always tucked when he’s rolling around. He’s protecting his rear end. Anytime I play with him “ his tail is tucked “ they are best friends. How do I know? They are my dogs. And still happy to this day. I might make another video soon.
Stop over analysing. Its plain to see they are just playing. My Westies tail goes down when he runs and play fights. He also fears nothing. Absolutely nothing. He is a big dog in a little dogs body. I ❤ Westies 🐾
I would be nervous if that was my westie, but they were playing perfectly. I need to relax a bit I think! Lovely to see play stop for a moment when one laid down.
I had 2 Westie litter brothers (Fenway was the runt so on the smaller side). Oakee would protect his brother Fenway against any dog, no matter how big they were. I miss my boys every day and even though I have a new puppy they will always be my boys and in my heart (I still cry) ❤
I have a Westie who LOVES to play with his Doberman cousin! They could play for hours. The Dobie knows how to control his strength so much for my lil guy, who is super scrappy and holds his own!
I had a Cairn (a Westie's cousin) who was the alpha male in the big dog room at the doggie Daycare I used to take him to. He ruled over German Shepards, Danes, Rottweilers. When they'd go to get him when I'd pick him up after work, they'd tell everyone gathered at the pickup area to stand back for the male alpha. Then they'd bring Leo out. Always cracked me up to see the expressions on everyone's faces, but he ruled the room!
I feel like the dislike bar would be different (non existent) had this been a lab or a golden simply because some people find dobermans intimidating or not as cute as some other dogs. This is quite clearly normal play behaviour.
i used to take my westie to the dog park. when a big dog, small dog tried to buffalo him. he would take a stance with his tail up and showed them don't mess with me.
Your westie looks a lot like my Bobby in appearance and behavior. When he was younger, he also liked to play with big dogs. Only he didn’t like to play with Dobermans. Thank you for this video! 🌹
My female Westie is 14 now and doesn't see so good anymore, but years ago, we were in a park and i saw a pit bull running wide open towards up, i grabbed her up and stuck her in my coat and turned my back to the pit bull waiting for what i was sure was an attack. The owner was able to get to the dog and we were not bothered, it was friendly. About 30 minutes later we ran into the same pit bull while walking on a street, since it had been friendly i didn't pick Maggie up this time, and she is the one who jumped on the pit bull, i grabbed her up and thank goodness the pit bull acted scared as i know it could have torn her up!
I have two Westies, and yes, they are fearless little guys; they play and play fight together for hours. The fact that they are fearless is what would get them into big trouble if that Dobie's mood suddenly changed. Don't tell me it can't happen either! My 60-pound mutt killed my 15-pound Maltese one day while they were "playing". It's a chance I'll never take again. No more big dogs with little dogs - no matter how fearless the breed.
Denise Murray They are best of friends. If one cries the other cries for no reason. They wait for each other to go upstairs and go to sleep. I’m sure there is a risk as there would be with siblings playing also. But I’m not going to stop them! Sorry about your dog. Terrible story.
I'm honestly not trying to argue with you, but that's what I thought about Amber and Riley, too. I'm just trying to warn people that it can happen to them just as easily, and if it does happen, you can't take it back. I pray your guys live together happily ever after.
the fact that the little one is not enjoying to the fullest is just a shame. because the real tumble would have no match and not just the size, but also for what each of them were breed for
Our Westie used to gang up on me with the wife. They understand power dynamics too well. Little intellectuals, always thinking and plotting. Like Game of Thrones. Little tykes.
I have two 11 month old (20 and 22lb) westies and one 5 year old Bull Terrier (70 lbs plus its breed is known to be the most powerful dog in per lb in the world).....westies even at 3 months...dominated my bull terrier but it was all love...the bull terrier, if untrained and not socialised, can tear up a literal bull or toro...watch that video on here....
This westie is the alpha. He won't submiss. During dog training class, my 2 month old westie was the alpha among 7 dogs, Akita, German Shepard, bull dog, mutt, poodle, and Dalmatian. The trainer said medium pinch for my westie! I thought he's NUTS..the collar weighs more than him...trainer was right! Medium pinch was the correct collar. Don't mess with a westie when they are alpha!
When I lost my first Westie I got 4 within 3 weeks and it was the best canine thing i ever did ! One of the 2 Boys ONLY played with Alsatians and Rottweillers and I recall him rolling around under 2 Rotties who ignored him and another time racing along the River Bank urging 2 Alsatians AND 2 Rotties to play fight with him !
As one who owned a fearless toy dog who liked going after big dogs (pit bulls etc.), this video makes me nervous. That is a well-behaved Doberman - he could have mortally injured or killed that little dog in a skinny minute, if he had so desired. Note, small dog went running inside when he was tired with the play fight. Yes, it is a cute video. But be careful with your little ones. It only takes a minute for them to get hurt!!!
