H-D's aren't what they used to be. I bought my 2017 street to replace an 83 Honda V45 Magna. IMO, it's a real POS. No wonder people are walking away from H-D.

Had to change my wife’s, hers is a 750. But pretty much the same set up, your tips really made it, we will say not so hard. And the string tip really helped. Thank you.

I was lucky enough to upload this clip onto my mobile phone, just in case. Got stuck in my underground garage with a completely flat battery on my Harley Street 750, no reception. Removing the battery was easy with the video clip on my mobile. All the hints made a lot of sense, string included! Also installed a new battery, took 15 minutes in all! Excellent video clip, good job Doc Harley.

Oh Hooray! A battery removal video with proper lighting! (all other one I have seen so far have been in darkened garages)...and he lists the tools at the beginning...). 1:14 This is excellent , he insists on pointing out all removal points, so when you pause or playback the video each step is easily identified & mentions the specific tool (have I finally found a pro? Im getting excited here...*continues watching more of the video* 1:38: I could be wrong but this is where i think you can attach the - trickle charger. 3.45 Amazing! There it is! The elusive battery! 4:10 This is where 'how long is a piece of string' comes into play. I was lost but now am found... It is actually easy with your video. THANKS SO MUCH! Dont be surprised if in some lost out of the way neighbourhood in outback Australia there is a small backyard garage , in the middle of the desert, surrounded by boat parts....with several candles burning... some incence... and in the middle of all that...a photo (covered in garlands of flowers) of Doc Harley... Best video, superstar.

Thanks for the tips Doc. I just changed the battery on my FLTRU this past weekend. You would think that would be simple enough. But - no. Of course not. Biggest problem was the lifting strap was broken and unusable. So I tied string to the battery post screws to lift it out. Worked like a charm.

The mirrors on my 2017 are pretty much useless. I have to contort my body to change lanes on freeway. I have to buy a 2nd set of posts and weld them together to get functional mirrors. Whoever set my bike up almost got me killed. They left the clutch jam but loose and sitting at a light slightly revving with clutch engaged it lurched out into traffic causing a semi to take evasive action nearly causing a deadly accident. If I had it to do over I'd avoid H-D LIKE THE PLAGUE.

Great video just a question- The tube you say is the vapor lock has become detached somewhere from the bottom of the bike. How can I reattach it?

Good morning Doc, I tried to replace the muffler in my street 500, I take it to the dealer because is losing power, I just don’t want the metal Bibration saund when apply gas, I took it to the dealer and the dealer can’t fine tune for that slip on VH , The dealer told me that the muffler there is no back pressure from the muffler, do you think I have to replace the inlet air filter for the bigger one , that way the bike can bi tuning . I’m a little stuck here can you give me your opinion. Thank you Doc. In the new asleep on

Thank you for the video, I needed to access the battery on my Street 500 to attach a battery tender connection. Watching the video on the batter removal part helped, getting the battery to twist and slide out is a real phaff.

Doc, ,Non of Our 2020 Softails in Au came installed with a HD Smart security System as did my 18 1200 Roadster Sportster.. I had purchased one and got pretty close to Installation having removed battery and cover behind back wheel and big Caddy just couldn't separate the plastic section to slot Siren in..PLEASE Can You Do a Video for Us as I live 900 ks to closest dealer and they've not done one so I trust myself..MUCH APPRECIATION..

This question is off topic but, I recently noticed a weight from my front tire lying on the ground in my garage. I looked at the tire and noticed that there were spots on the rim where weights were before, soooo.....any quick tips? I called my local dealer (where I just had a 5k service) asked them if they did a tire balance......"NO, but you can bring it in Saturday " $56 + weights. I'm in a group ride Saturday!! HELP!!!!!

Thank you so much for this video. Took me 2 days part part time to change. Replaced with a Harley battery. Those batteries are heavy. Way heavier than one from autozone. All joking aside the only battery I saw that was worse was the first year Dodge Intrepid. You have to take off the driver's side fender to get to the battery.

Hey Doc, Thanks for this video, I just picked up a 15' street 500 and I have a few questions. 1) before my fuel light comes on indicating im low on fuel, the bike starts "surging" on take off or heading up a hill. I put gas in it and well, according to the manual its a 3.5 gal tank and Im only able to add about 2 gallons to it. Now also according to the manual, "reserve" is around .8 gallons left in the tank and thats about when the fuel light should come on. What gives here??? 2) I have found a connector not connected to anything on the right side "throttle side" and looking at a wring diagram, the closest thing I could find it to be is the Purge solenoid connector.. why would this be disconnected? is there an obvious hole to plug it back into? or do I simply pretend I never found it and ignore it?? Thanks for yours or anyone else insight.

There is a clip to hold the one way vapor lock thing. After that the tube just hangs down. Thanks ~ Doc

Switch on handlebars ON, turn key on, watch for security key light to go out, then pull main fuse with in 3 seconds. (Key fob present)…..Doc

The best connection is to the battery terminals. But as I have shown, is difficult. Next best is red to battery positive post ground to that small frame stud. Thanks ~ Doc

Nice Video. is there an easy option to just remove the battery wires or a central control that can ensure the battery is not consumed when left un used for one month or two months to avoid battery draining off.

How old of a battery and how strong is your battery charger? A battery that is close to 4 years old does not have the capacity to handle a 5 amp or more charger. Weird things will start to happen through out the electrical system.....Doc

If I am understanding your message. You have tested the fan with it connected to bike and it does not work but if you remove the leads and test fan with 12 volt soarce it works! Yes it could be sensor,..Doc

I have heard streets sound really good with an open collector. If you choose a tuner make sure they even offer a base map for Street...Doc

We have a language barrier here. If I understand correctly, the bike will not accelerate without problems. I would first look closely all over the bike for loose or damaged wires. Battery must be under 4 years old. Connection at battery tight. Next I would check for air leaks at the intake manifold near heads. Spray Brake cleaner in this location while bike is hot and idle. If the motor RPM changes at all, this must be fixed….Doc

Either find a Factory Service Manual or bring it to your local dealer. I am sure you posted this to do it yourself for free. Not an easy path to take….Doc

When I pulled out the fuse the alarm went off continually until I put it back in?? (Will live to fight another day 😢) Maybe because bike not in transport mode to begin??

Correct process: main fuse in and accessible. turn bike on. wait for the security light to go out. the second it goes out pull main fuse.(u have 3 sec to do this)

Quickest I did it was about 1/2 hour. You could just remove the 2 screws and move the coolant reservoir

Help!!! I really wish I watched this video 1st. I never completely removed my battery however to charge it I pulled the rhs plastics off and the the top plastic piece. After charging it I put it back together and now my 500 won't start(the abs light is flashing and the engine light stays on when I am on ignition). I replaced the fob battery hoping that would fix it. Can anyone help so I don't need to trailer it to the dealer?

Further to this I did unplug something on the top(under the seat) and think the bike was attempting to chirp but due to being flat It was more of a clicking noise... I have since looked at that to make sure it's plugged back in correctly

My #1 question: Do you know your battery is good. When I read you had to charge the battery I wonder why? and ask how old is the battery and how long did you charge the battery. It is very possible the battery is dead. remove the battery, take it to the dealer and have it checked. You might just need a new battery...Doc

Thanks. Yes prior to purchasing it a few months ago the previous owner replaced the battery and the main fuse. As New Zealand is in a strict lockdown and work has been unbelievably busy I haven't been riding it. Only remembering to turn it over sometimes once every 2 weeks. I'm not even sure harley are open as it may not be deemed :essential " .absolute nonsense our countries approach but that's a conversation on its own...
