Very bad practice of working on lines not through the pole. Do yourself a favor and ALWAYS apply tension on the line placing the load on something not someone.
Not sure what you are talking about, but this a just 11,000 lbs boat. My last boat, which I owned for 30 years and voyaged some 150,000 miles, displaced 50,000 lbs without injury. I also caution against doing this with larger boats in the linked article.
