But Miles Morales isn't meant to be a spiderman variant, he's meant to subvert and replace.

Not all spider men have a special name. A lot of them have multiple names but also are addressed as Spider Man. generally Miles is addressing as Just Miles. But he really isn't in the same universe as peter parker so there is not doubling a character. Spider Man is really just a title. Similar to the Black Panther being just a title. No one call 2099 2099 they call him Spiderman in his time.

@@ReturnOfHeresy that's what so dumb about (most) of the writers that have worked with Miles; if they just write him to be a good variant, fans will want more of the character, so you then don't need to replace Peter! I love Spiderverse Miles, and thought Insomniac's Miles was ok until coincidentally, the second game cucked Peter to prop Miles up. Then again, what drives these people seems to be not love for Miles, but hatred for Peter, so how can you expect them to write Miles with love and care, when he's just a tool for their agenda?

@@zachary7647 But he is in the same universe as Spider-Man. That's largely the problem. 2099 doesn't have a Peter in his comic, so he's fine being Spider-Man. Ghost-Spider is called Spider Woman in her own comic, IIRC, but she has to specified when she's in 616 (which is really common). And Miles might have been alone in the Ultimate universe, most of the time, but Ultimate is dead. Nowadays, Miles Morales is constantly featured alongside Spider-Man, but without any way to refer to him that doesn't diminish his Spider-Man-ness. Having a special name would make him more of a Spider-Man than he is now.

I can agree that in that movie his has some distinct characteristics, such as making him an artist and focusing on his relationship with his family, but is that really present in the Insomniac games? Even in the Spider verse movies I think he's too similar to Peter, but in the games I really do struggle to differentiate them.

@@HSuper_Lee I haven't played the games, so I can't answer you there. If it's true that they basically treat him as a re-skin of Peter, that kinda sucks - on two different levels, actually. But I only ever saw the Spider Verse movie and I thought it was interesting how different Miles was from Peter, and I thought it was kind of shame that they tried to shove him into the "Spider Man" box. But that's just my two cents.

@@literalvampirepotbellygobl5629 I fully agree. I have nothing against Miles Morales if he's his own character, the problem is that Eric July is correct in that often he is just, "Peter Darker." This was something that even bothered me in Slider Verse sequel, in that while the first movie established Miles is pretty book smart, in the second they start having him talk about wanting to be a scientist studying dark matter for crossing into alternate dimensions and my thought was, "Wait, I knew he was bright, but when did he become this smart?" It felt like they were trying to give him the basement inventor trait Peter has always had. That's turned up to an eleven in the Insomniac games, where he genuinely does just come across as a younger Peter. It's really annoying.
