Perioral dermatitis: Acne-like rash without blackheads that occur around the mouth sparing the vermilion border.
What causes it? Cause & effect with topical, intranasal & steroids. Other cases are multifactorial including occlusive makeup, too much skin care (now probably the number one cause), heat, and humidity like Maskne.
How to manage? A dermatologist can diagnose & manage with a course of
anti-inflammatory antibiotics that will do the trick in the majority of cases. Ideally for 6 weeks.
Topicals include azelaic acid. Using Aquaphor healing ointment.
It’s always important to seek medical advice from your doctor/ dermatologist!

I don't think dermatologists recognise that the most common cause of this is adverse reaction to new skincare products and sunscreens over time which weakens the skin barrier leaving it susceptible to perioral dermatitis (and sebhorreic dermatitis). It's what's caused mine and many others. If you've been chewing gum or using toothpaste your whole life and suddenly have developed it but have also been introducing new skincare products which is more likely to have caused it?! Also no coincidence 90% of cases are found to be young women (who just started using products regularly).

He is talking about perioral dermatitis. You are talking about irritant contact dermatitis. Stop sounding smart. Derms know what theyre talking about, you dont.
@emms4867
@emms4867 9 месяцев назад
@@singkay3 nope it's perioral dermatitis diagnosed by 2 different dermatologist 😊 FYI irritant contact dermatitis goes away on its own within days to weeks. I've multiple bouts of contact dermatitis over the years but only last year developed PD which I've had for just over a year now. Trust me you know when youl have it. Its common knowledge that the cause for many skin conditions still isn't known (e.g. Perioral dermatitis and rosacea, which both go hand in hand, I have both). When you damage the skin barrier over time, In my case through many different reactions to products, the skin becomes more susceptible to dermatitis. The science and research is not at an adequate level in this area so you can't expect dermatologists to have all the answers. Also if you've ever been to multiple dermatologists you will know that they can give completely contradictory advice, just like in this video suggesting aquaphor of all things?! Which would only make pd worse. When you say to trust 'derms' so generally, you are basically saying any advice goes.... When they all give different advice because there hasn't been a proven cause or cure yet.

My daughter got it and we haven't changed anything. We noticed it after the dentist office
@emms4867

@@BriarCottage how old is your daughter? It's apparently quite common in kids. But adult cases are majority young females, who also are the ones starting to use lots of different products on their faces.

People get it in winter. They are indoors more, exposed to dust/dander. Vacuum yor couch more. Wash your pillows/cases more often. Get a air filter for the room. You get an itch, you rub it, irritating skin. It gets inflamed, it itches, you rub it, more inflation/redness, more itching, more rubbing. It's a cycle. You must make it a point not to touch that area.You could be rubbing that area like 50 times over the course of a day, also introducing the oils/dirt on your hands. You are touching face and don't even know it making it worse. Use back of finger to just touch itch. It will calm it, but no rubbing, so yor not inflaming it more.

Absolutely nothing should be used on the skin when you have perioral dermatitis. I had to resort to antibiotics to get rid of it.

I got it because of using often facemasks while at work as a nurse. We had a lot of quarantine patients over the year with MRSA und things that you had often wear security wear for hours. And you swaet underneath a lot.. that breaks my skin over decades and the pandemic things makes it even worse..
