When food is involved, that's very important. Back when I was still in High School my mom fixed hamburgers for dinner, but mine wound up being contaminated with E-Coli and wasn't cooked enough to kill the bacteria, and I wound up seriously ill for about a week since antibiotics don't work on E-Coli, I had to wait for my body to fight it off on it's own, and that was not a fun experience. The stomach cramps alone were agony, and would instantly knock me off my feet whenever they hit. Even though it was food my mom prepared, I was contacted by the health department not long after so that they could ask me questions to try and figure out where the E-Coli had come from. There's a reason why restaurant menus explicitly warn you about under-cooked meat.

(Not so) Fun fact: the reason why Gordon Ramsey asked if that lady’s friend was a vegetarian is because they soaked their tomato soup in ham bones or something and didn’t disclose it
@Zeldagirlartist
@Zeldagirlartist Месяц назад
That wouldn’t matter. Being a vegetarian and having soup soaked in bones wouldn’t maje you sick. Maybe there are some medical reasons to be vegetarian but it’s mostly a personal choice. Gordon Ramsey asked if they were vegetarian because if they are then that eliminates the possibility of undercooked meat.
@katbegic4737

I was a national level athlete. One late night practice, I had a very serious fall. I was told not to compete that weekend, but this was what I'd been training for! A month later the doc showed us fractures in my spine and told us that I was "faking it"! So even with the pain I went back to skating for another 6 mths, which was the most humiliating and painful way to end my career. Finally a neurosurgeon did an MRI and had me in for my first of 3 surgeries within 2 weeks. 30 years later I still deal with severe chronic pain from sciatica and degenerative disc disease. I'm actually waiting on an MRI now with the real possibility that another surgery is in my future. Moral of the story, take injuries seriously and don't allow anyone to dismiss the pain or symptoms you have!

Yea sadly I fell into that problem where I had extremely bad pain in my stomach area after some bad hits there.. For a long while I was told that it was all in my head.. So I just dealt with it and kept going.. The pain eventually got crippling, I could not move that much and I was.. Once again. Told it was either in my head or I am faking it. This is also where I was told that if the pain really was as bad as I was "acting" like it was, I would be screaming as they put it. I eventually started vomiting blood, and because I did not do so right in front of them I had to be lying.. According to them.. Well. A few days later the vomiting blood and the pain was getting extremely bad.. and I genuinely felt like I was going to die.. A friend of mine and my brother both took me to the doctor, ( Because of the doctor and the emergency room, and my brother listening to them.. He was insisting that I go there first. ) but the lady running the admittance area told them to take me to the hospital right then, but to a nearby cities hospital, not the one I had went to last at said point. ( She did not say why ) .. Keep in mind I did not even make it into the Doctor's building as she seen me through the windowed door, very slowly moving my way to it.. As soon as she seen me she screamed at them to take me to the hospital and what hospital.. They did so.. Turned out if I just kept listening to that doctor, as well as the emergency room of that city.. I would have died that day. I had diverticulitis and it was at the end stages of it. I had emergency surgery, lost several feet of intestine, lost some of my stomach and a few other small bits of a few other organs.. Was given a ton of serious antibiotics.. Ect.. The emergency surgeon told me that I probably would not have made it if the surgery did not take place when it did.. That was how close to death I was. Due to the damage that was done.. I have had several more surgeries since all due to this mess.. In chronic pain, and about ever 8 months or so, sometimes less, sometimes a bit longer.. I tend to have to go to the emergency room for IV-based antibiotics.. Have been told its probably something that will go on for the rest of my life on that.. This was back in 2011 and I was 26.. Basically I really should have went to another doctor and perhaps another emergency room for a second opinion.. Like in your case, do not let others just dismiss things like what happened with me. I almost died due to that and even with living I am contentiously paying the price for it basically. Wish someone gave that advice to me when I was younger, and same as to you Kyote 10.. Hope at least anyone who reads what you mentioned and what I am mentioning here will at least learn from our examples and make sure to at the very least a second and possibly third opinion from others who do not work in the same exact building/area. ( Admittedly, at the time I did not know how seriously bad the reputation the hospital, the only hospital in said city I might add.. Was extremely bad.. The Doctor I was seeing.. Honestly I do not recall if I ever checked on theirs but I stopped going to that place all together as well after that. Did thank the receptionist though for what she said when I was finally able to. )

Unfortunately, females don't get their pain taken seriously and non-athletes with athletic like injuries don't get taken seriously either. Especially if you already have arthritis. I just had 3 dislocated bones in my hand/wrist reduced/partially reduced yesterday in a very rare & weird type of dislocation that is usually only seen in athletes who fall at a very particular angle with intense velocity... not me. I did it by using a hand rail on the stairs. Orthopedic urgent care brushed it off. "Nothing visible on xray" and they barely palpated the region. I see my actual ortho doc a week later and he's like "wow, you can actually see the lump from the ulna." Well, these types of dislocations don't show on 95% of imaging according to the studies I read.. and most end up as surgical cases. I got lucky. No fall involved means no broken scaphoid process. And this is just the most recent time of something weird happening and being brushed off. If you are female with chronic musculoskeletal issues, you get taken less seriously than a man with the same issues and you both don't get taken anywhere near as seriously as an athlete or even a typical bodied person.

The Kardashian one bothered me. I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid arthritis over a year ago and the process was INSANELY painful. It took a couple weeks to spread from a toe and finger joint to my whole body and once I got in to see my doctor, all she could do was send me to a rheumatologist. Problem was it took six months to get in to see one, and in that time I could barely dress myself, couldn't prepare my own food, turn doorknobs etc. I don't have all the context on the Kardashians, but RH is a lot worse than they made it seem.

Also the words 'Panic attack', 'in shock' 'ocd' are used by the media to describe people being overwhelmed or scared or happy, but in reality, a panic-attack is not when you grab at your head and go; 'Oh no, I forgot my keys' and then you have to ring the doorbell and ask your neighbour for the key. That is a panic-moment, not a panic-attack. And 'in shock' is when the blood goes to your vital organs and you are about to pass out and perhaps even die. Not when your wife throws you a birthdayparty and you are shocked. OCD ofcourse, as we all know is not 'getting annoyed with a folded corner in a book' either and so on. As a result of those words, whenever I descibe some bad situation, everyone always assumes the lightest or assumes I am overracting in how I mentioned it, rather than taking at face value that I am trying to be subtle in my wording.

That thing he was talking about with the bruise under the nail actually happened to me just recently. I was lifting dumbbells and one of my friends poked me in my sides, causing the weight to be unbalanced, I tried to set it down slowly but me ring finger got stuck underneath. The swelling went down after a day and I tried to get something through the nail to release the pressure but I just couldn’t get through bc of the pain. I finally got the nail off about a week ago and the new nail has already started growing back in. I just find it funny that something like that has happened to ME before and I have a VERY uneventful life. Moral of the story kids: *DO NOT ROUGH HOUSE AROUND HEAVY OBJECTS*

I had migraines most of my adult life. I use paracetamol, then sumatriptan, then oxycodone if the sumatriptan doesn't work. That works for me. But I try to keep the oxycodone down to once or twice a week if possible. Generally doctors don't like prescribing opioids for headaches, but pain management was good to me. And I've had oxycodone for 12 years, I get opioid dependent a couple times a year, but addiction is fairly rare, and I've always found it easy to stop the oxycodone when I don't need it.

When you were talking about the foot injuries, I immediately thought of the two separate more severe foot injuries I’ve had. The first was a bad sprain that took ages to heal, caused by stepping wrong. That one I could move my foot but not bear weight. The other was a fracture in my fifth metatarsal and my talus from falling down the stairs- for that one i could not bear weight or move my foot for months. No cast, just a boot- but I never want to repeat! I had a lot of trouble with managing to even stand on crutches that time, and only realized why when the bruises finally reached the surface of my skin- all over my foot and leg that were not broken. Oops! The pain of the foot was so much more than anything else that I didn’t even realize my other side was also beaten up!

Hey Dr. Mike! Fun luttle tidbit for you. The knee-jerk reflex is an adaptation to maintain standing upright without having to think about it. When you're holding something really heavy, you need to react with more force to maintain standing upright then if you have nothing in your hands. Holding onto your hands and pulling really hard tricks your brain into thinking that you are holding something that's very heavy, and therefore you react more strongly.

I've had times where I was scared to tell doctors about concerns I had because I thought they'd write me off. Had a doctor several years ago who when I brought up a concern immediately wrote it off without even ever doing a full intake examination as not being there because I didn't present one (not that obvious necessarily, especially not over Zoom like the appointment was) symptom. Guess who was diagnosed with that condition three years later... I switched doctors because first doctor didn't listen to any of my concerns and never gave advice, the new doctor did an intake and immediately referred me to get tested for the condition that i was told I didn't have by the last doctor. I've had some great doctors, but I've also had some bad doctors, and the bad ones really suck. Doctors shouldn't come into an examination thinking that the patient is dumb and faking (there are an alarming number of people faking disorders, but assuming everyone is making things up will lead to you missing a lot of cases).

Freaking hurts. I stuck a needle in the area directly below the nail and tried to let pus out and it was not a good feeling.

@@suziecarr1566It’s got to be from the top, or else you’ll hurt yourself, you shouldn’t be felling any pain, at all, caused by the hot paperclip. Maybe a little heat, because ofc it’s metal that’s heated up, but other than that you shouldn’t have any pain that’s caused by the needle/paperclip.

Thanks for always being so educational in your videos. Speaking of migraines, I had the terrifying experience of having a hemiplegic migraine a few months ago. I had no idea that there was a type of migraine that can mimic the signs of a stroke! It was definitely an eye opener.

I’ve had those, too. Luckily, I had one in the doctor’s office in front of the doctor! He was able to diagnose and help me right away. Months later, he said it was scary for him and to please not do it ever again. 😂 He’s a great guy, and we laugh about everything. I’m sorry you went through it, too.

This is probably one of my favorite videos as of recently. A lot of cool inofrmation. It's really cool to see how Dr. Mike processes the information he is given as he would if he was the doctors in this video.

I really respect this doctor, from being handsome, informative, and not being too serious giving good vibes, his patients must be very lucky to have him as a doctor.

i loveee how you didnt hate on googling certain things, i figured out on my own that i had tinea versicolor and later on for someone else that they had impetigo and was the one that brought both up to doctors. as long as you use somewhat trusted sources and research very carefully and in-depth you can figure out so much stuff so easily

9:03 In April of 2023, i had a netball game, (like the finale of a league we were playing) and while we were warming up, _not even _*_during_*_ the game_ , i jumped and landed wrong, breaking my right ankle, tearing all the ligaments on the outside of my foot, and partially tearing the muscle. My friend told my it literally sounded like breaking a handfull if glowsticks💀

5:35 I do that for my fingers sometimes. They get randomly infected to the side of the nail, and the blisters never go away on their own, even after the infection is long gone. So I'll heat up a sewing needle to between orange and yellow and then melt the side of the nail/right through the swollen skin to relieve the pressure and let the fluid drain.
