Just finished seeing it about an hour ago too, would’ve loved an extra 30 minutes but not just for the sake of having another 30 minutes to watch, also know not everyone will like the raimi horror elements but I love raimi horror so would’ve absolutely eaten up more of it in the film
Yeah I feel like an extra 30 minuets that maybe explored Defender Strange and America’s relationship, Sinister Strange and Wanda’s situation a bit better would have made it work better. As it stands we’re kinda thrown in head first and especially with Wanda we’re just told “she’s an all powerful witch looking for her children now” with no explanation which is fine for people like me who watched Wandavision but for those who didn’t it really feels like not just a puzzle piece is missing but a quarter of the pieces
@@freddiemac327 30 minutes of him just hitting himself just inserted randomly between scenes throughout the entirety of the movie while selling pizza rolls
2 hours is long enough to be a great movie but not for this kind of movie when your going to multiple universes you need more run time what if endgame was 2 hours it would have been rushed because they had so many different places to go to in that movie
I agree. John Says it would not have been a Sam Raimi movie if the runtime was longer but no one stopped to think... maybe Sam Raimi shouldn't have directed this movie at all. I love Raimi's movies but I think this movie needed to be longer.
I just finished watching the film an hour ago and I told myself there was more stuff in this film that got cut out and now Raimi saying 35 minutes of footage got removed, I am curious as to what it was. I will say they did a good job of course correcting one character especially with the look and yes the actor does return and they didn't recast him.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was completely chaotic and the perfect change of pace that I was looking for from the MCU. 5/5 good time for myself!! Sam Raimi movie through and through. Olsen Rocks.
John I've been watching you for years. I can kind of feel out if you'd like a movie or not. Although sometimes you surprise me lol. That said I know your out of the theater review you'll agree some parts needed to be fleshed out.
By chance guessing any cuts might be part of extras later for deleted scenes any. that is what i thinking but not sure what xtras they gonna add any later.
I have a feeling that maybe 15 to 20 minutes of the deleted scenes were probably going to be needed. Still haven't seen it but I'm going to hazard a guess that's going to be the case.
I think marvel is suffering from over saturation within their own company. Ever since the Disney+ shows started rolling out, the quality of marvel movies have started to become come quite so-so. I don’t know if it was Covid that screwed up everything, or if Feige is not as hands on as he used to be, but story/characters has been lacking quite a bit. Shang Chi, Black Widow, FaTWS, eternals all felt generic. Even the higher rated shows all suffered from being shows (Loki, Hawkeye, Moonknight) those all should’ve been Disney+ exclusive movies instead of drawn out mini series.
I'm honestly the biggest marvel fan I know. That said, I agree with ALOT of what you said. Although I don't think any of it is Kevin's fault. It's hard for me to say this but I do believe there should be less marvel. I'm 100% looking forward to Doctor strange, thor, black panther 2 ect. I loved moon knight loki, all the Disney plus shows but Hawkeye. I do not think Ms marvel looking interesting at all, but feel obligated to watch it in fear of missing out on something important that will pop up in the future. I know that's kinda how marvel works, but wish it had SOME stand alone shows or movies. That said I think marvels to big for that now and threw way to much in, in terms of its connectivity via films and shows.
@@xlmlghazexl1005 I think a lot of the Disney+ show problem could easily be solved by creating Disney+ exclusive films instead of these TV shows with uninteresting B/C Plotlines. I would rather some of the Disney+ shows be edited down into like a 3-4 part mini series event. The shows start off really well, but then they drag all the way to the finale. I also think some of the Disney+ characters are just not interesting enough to warrant a television show. I could go on for hours discussing hahahaha 🤣 🤷🏻♂️ just my opinion 🤔
@@jeebs621 I think your on the money with having their own disney plus movies instead of shows. And the "filler" in these shows are pretty lackluster. We grew to love marvel off the movies and they had barely any filler. It was all progression for the story, everything was interesting. So I do believe the shows are taking something away from the movies. But YOU could talk about this for hours?! Lol this shit is in my blood! I'm not a crazy die hard comic fan of marvel. But the MCU is my bread and butter, I remember and connect so many thing in these movies its nuts. I may have a problem lol.
I think the issue is definitely covid. It messed with the entire development and structure of phase 4 on both a storytelling and behind the scenes level
I loved this movie! It was brilliant, not what I was expecting, but still brilliant! It's like when Civil War was released, some people complained that it was more like "Civil argument" than "Civil War", but this movie was Madness. Not like 20-Cameos-epic-Multiverse-battle Madness, but more like Really-weird-and-mindblowing-cool Madness! I don't think the movie was to short, even though there's a few scenes that I think could have been added to to make it run a little smoother. I agree with some of the complaints about the script. Some of the dialouge felt a bit off at some times, but it was off in a way that you could laugh at it so I think it makes it a bit more okay. And I still think the portrayal of Dr. Strange's powers were best in Infinity War with his fight against Thanos, but we still got some epic action! And the visuals were jawdropping, the acting was top tier all around, the story was really exciting and emotional, like I said, I loved this movie! I think phase 4 had a rough start but since Spider-Man: NWH is all been brilliant I think.
As someone who's seen the movie, the movie should've been longer, and that was my initial thought even before knowing the movie was supposed to be longer. And also yes, the trailers revealed way too much.
I agree, there were a lot of moments and plot threads that needed more breathing room. Things went by so fast that a lot of potentially great character moments never got to happen or didn't have the impact they should have.
@@silverscion2144 Absolutely! For me I wanted to see more multiverse, I honestly didn't feel the "madness" of it which kind of a shame given the title of the movie. Also the fight with the Illuminati should've been way more grandiose. For both I don't feel like I've experienced anything new I didn't already see in the trailers.
I haven’t seen the movie yet so I can’t say for certain if it was too long or too short but like with the R rating I feel like a lot of comic book movie fans are obsessing over this thing of movie runtimes being longer equals better movie, I mean we just had a bunch of people saying that about The Batman didn’t we? In both cases people seem to think we found this secret formula for making great comic book movies, but it’s not, this also gives me the impression that maybe this movie isn’t as cameo heavy as a lot of us thought it was gonna be, I still think there’ll be some but probably not the 10-12 cameos or something that a lot of people online are theorizing about, it also has me wondering if that’s where some of the negative reviews are coming from, are they coming from the people who were disappointed by the fact that there weren’t as many cameos as they were thinking there would be? So in the end I still need to see this movie for myself before I can say whether or not it was too long or too short but as of right now I think a lot of the people saying it was too short are probably just the ones that were disappointed that it didn’t have as many cameos as they were hoping for
You should probably see it for yourself then because as a person who already saw the movie, it definately needed 15-20 more minutes to flesh out some characters and plot lines. It moved really fast and left some stuff behind. And this is a common criticism not just among the members of my household but many other reviewers. I agree it's a case by case basis, but this movie definitely needed it.
The movie was good and paced well, however for a movie called multiverse of madness It did not feel like a main event storyline more like a doctor strange adventure! :(
The movie was good! But honestly, Doctor Strange felt like there was a couple things missing like meaningful character development and depth and pacing could have been better. So a slightly longer runtime with those necessary plot points would've made the movie better.. If you wanna watch a really good multiverse movie, Everything Everywhere All At Once is superior, by a lot.
The editing was so bad. It seemed like they were afraid for the film to slow down and breathe. After the opening multiverse vision and cuts back to Dr Strange waking from his dream, it didn't even let him have a second longer of panic, before it cuts straight to the watch. This gave many scenes a disjointed feel and the audience doesn't have time to adjust between extreme shifts of mood.
Dunno man, I'm thinking similar to the marketing/trailers, this was a studio move to maximize showings. All the reviews I'm reading are saying that the pacing is a problem. Remember the discussion about the trailers, that was a studio move...
You can tell this screenplay was written by someone who mainly did television. Cause there are very distinct “episode” breaks that this film could’ve been a D+ show
I haven't even seen the movie yet but I feel like I have already seen it with all the million spoiler videos out there. And they are unavoidable because they reveal everything in the thumbnail and title. Very disappointed, hopefully I will enjoy the film just as much.
In the Reel Reject's out of theater reaction they said they feel like the movie could use another 10-20 minutes of breathing room for the emotional moments. So there's at least one review that criticized the pacing. Haven't seen the movie yet so I won't know how I feel until tomorrow. I just hope it was Sam Raimi's decision to cut it because he believes it will make for a better film and not the studio's decision to squeeze in more time slots to make more money.
Marvel don’t really do the whole “cut out scenes to squeeze in more time slots” thing, they have faith in their productions to know the movie will be a big hit even with a 2 hour 30 runtime. My theory is those 30 minuets might have either been too weird, too expositional or too scary
Not getting into spoilers but the pacing felt completely off. The first 40 minutes went too quick with little explanation. There feels like a lot of fat and a lot that just wasn't fleshed out at all. Also the ending feels very rushed. Almost as if they didn't realize they only had 15 mins left so they kinda clued it up too fast.
@@CaptainKaz44 definitely not a million but I was expecting at least one or two more. Even if they was very short ones. Kinda like the Bruce Campbell one
Your telling me there was a longer cut for the movie no way say it aint so every movie has scenes and footage that they don’t keep in the theatrical cut
I liked the film, bit I think the problem is in the name, multiverse. A lot of people presumed that we’d be getting a lot more cameos than we got, and the speculation was all about will film bring in mutants
I'm not making any judgement about the runtime until I've had a chance to actually see the movie. If it feels too rushed to me, then I'll want to see those deleted scenes to see if there was anything they cut that should have stayed in. But until I see the movie, I'm just gonna trust that Raimi knows what he's doing and hope for the best.
I haven’t seen The Batman so I’m not gonna comment on that…But Doctor Strange sucked balls when it came to the writing and plot…The movie needed atleast 20 more minutes to explain shit but nope…Let’s just jump into another mindless action scene..
I LOVED Multiverse of Madness as I rank it as my third favorite MCU film behind Spider-Man NWH and Captain America Winter Solider. Having said that, I would have preferred if it was closer to 2 hours and 30 minutes. If for anything else, just to have some more time to see more universes and maybe flesh some of the characters out a bit more. But John raises a good point, the runtime is consistent with Rami’s other work so it does make sense.
I actually have been saying it could have used some room to breathe. I think they could have tacked on a bit more time in the Illuminati universe just to build maybe the suspense a little more give us more time to explore these new characters their world a little. I just think it could have been of benefit, explore the character's ideology specifically Dr. Strange. 30min would have been overkill, but like 15min I don't think would have hurt personally.
Definitely should have been longer. For a multiverse movie, needed more multiverse exploration and more back story regarding the illuminati in my opinion. Would have loved more Mordo considering we already know him and he was used extensively in the trailers.
Spoilers for the movie if you haven't seen it yet: Having seen the movie, I think it really could have benefitted from 5 more minutes of setting up Wanda and her motivation. Perhaps greater clarifying whether her turn was due solely to grief or a combination of grief and influence of the Darkhold. I totally buy a mother going to such lengths for her children, especially one that has experienced so much lose in life, I just think a little more clarity would have been helpful.
I believe a lot of cameos were cut in the extra footage. I don't know if Tom Cruise was ever in the film, but I'm convinced James McAvoy and Sophie Turner was. They were photographed looking very similar to their characters in the X Men films, when the reshoots were happening. James McAvoy was bald(almost), and Sophie Turner had red hair again. Coincidence? You decide.
Longer would have been better if they’d had an opening that made Wanda’s heel turn make more sense and that would have made her character more redeemable. But I’m guessing they really wanted the big surprise that Wanda was the villain when Strange went to visit her.
Having seen the film, I do think it felt a bit rushed, especially some parts; so yeah, I'm definitely in the "could have used a little more room to breathe" camp.
I get the feeling that this movie will not bother with having a first act that is way too long. They aren't going to waste time with dialogue scenes to remind us of who Stephen Strange is, who Wanda is and what happened in WandaVision etc. They're going to dive right in to introducing the current conflict of this movie and that's a good way to be.
Yeah but in a doctor strange movie his character is static and other then deciding to bow at the end has no character development ends up being about the same as he was at the end of the first one
It’s not really that fact that longer=better, it’s that for a movie like this that’s literally setting up the multiverse for this MCU phase a 2 hr 6 min runtime seems a bit… short? Even after the movie dropped many reviewers and audiences wanted the movie to be a tad bit longer just to flesh out the story more and to maybe see a bit more of the “multiverse” this movie advertised.
After watching the movie, the first 25 minutes of story was rushed. And the rest of the movie was repetitive and took forever. If that was another 35 minutes…. kill me.
Longer runtime = better movie is a theory I’ve had since I was a little kid because of the lord of the rings. Obviously it’s not always indicative but a movie that’s 2:40 minutes will probably have good character development, a more original plot and limited studio interference compared to a tight 2 hour production. The Batman is a perfect example. The theatrical cut was the directors cut and it shows.
l am really disappoint marvel cut run time .they can keep it at least 2 :30 minutes. saim raimi is best director at least they should trust him. marvel should release original cut.this movie need more run time if you wants to understand this movie.
Yeah Those demon soul things could have gotten more exposition if they were to judge people over their guilt we could have had a scene where strange fight those demons while remembering Paper/Steve saying him Tonies death wasnt his fault so Strange get rid of his guilt and demons move to Wanda Even then Wandas guilt is covered by her love to children then the rest could happen
I revised the what DocS2 should’ve been: The real Doc Strange 2 that should’ve happened: ------------ Kevin Feige just needed to bring in FF/XMen/New Ironman/New BP frfr. Had he done that, movie would’ve been 1.5 Billion+ and you can’t argue this. Those FF, X-Men, New Ironman, & New BP could’ve just been in on the adventure with Chavez, Wong, and Dr. Strange when they escaped Wanda meeting with them through 2 other Universes as Chavez gets used to the portal part of her powers. All of them to STOP a Cosmic amped WANDA Make sense! Then in the End.. Chavez and Wanda powers accidentally merge the 3 Universes expanding the MCU 616. FF/Mutants exist now. We get the Return of Superior Tony from FF Universe along with BP from the Mutants Universe comes too as their Universes were dying due to the DarkHold before Wanda even got controlled! The Christine part still could’ve happened too so he still had his little mini story within. And NOW the world has new heroes the FF who now are also helping with the X-Men with the “Fears of Mutants” amping up. Later leading to AvXvE And Leading to other New SHIT! Then in the second CREDITS: Show the Illuminati talking. And they are all variants secretly manipulated by Kang. While MCU 616 Converges to make: BP/Namor/Xavier/Reed/BlackBolt/CapM/TonyStarks/Doc.Strange As their Illuminati on the very Low. The Rare: Third Credits can still be funny af. If they would have gone to Hero’s Reborn Route but looks like it could either be the Incursion or Secret Wars or maybe fusion like how Cap 3 is a solo cap movie but has a avengers arc story, so they can do it that way but god I’m a X-Men & F4 fan mostly and god damn how LOOOOOOOOONG MORE DO WE HAVE TO WAIT FOR THEM TO GET INTO THE MCU/MCM smh Marvel Studios/MCU/MCM are doomed…….💯💯💯💯
Like I reall how they don’t rush in for the XVA route or a XVAVE route really hope those don’t come this early they need to leave those way sooon far away from now
I think those Disney bigwigs cut the time because everytime this type of crap happens it's idiots with power who have no idea what sells needing to flex their muscle some how some way. Sorry but I can't see Fiege saying cut the time unless he's forced to.
The movie definitely worked, but it could’ve used those 35 minutes to flesh out more of the characters and action scenes. I really enjoyed it, but felt kinda rushed in some parts🧙🏻♂️
Personally I liked the 2hour length. I think they could have used that 2hrs better tho- it got too bogged with the style they were going for, instead of using that time for actual story telling IMO.
It’s definitely not a horror movie. I was really looking forward to this too. But people in my cinema were laughing at parts of the film. I understand the mixed reviews, such a poor script and the constant use of CGI monsters looked terrible… not good 😬
Wrong. Longer would have helped this movie. Now we'll never know what those scenes were, but hopefully it was buffer time and set up. The scenes needed time to breathe.
Honestly, they could have used that 35 minutes. The pacing here feels rushed, especially the first 30-40 minutes or so. Starting filming with an unfinished script, while not guaranteed to result in a bad movie, doesn't set a good tone and often results in one. The whole movie felt muddled. There is a story worth telling in there somewhere but it's weighed down with so many other MCU-necessary cameos and scenes. Reminiscent of Age of Ultron in that regard, where there were a bunch of scenes introducing characters and concepts for the next few movies. I was considerably underwhelmed.
Definitely don't always agree longer is better, however some movies (like Dr strange) could have benefitted from a little more space! Still liked the movie tho even though it was corny!
