Viewer Question:
Antagonistic Anonymous - Hey Campea Crew !In the last week DS2 has gotten a TV spot almost everyday which to our surprise revealed some pretty big moments such as Living Tribunal, First Look At Captain Carter as well as new look at Xavier's Golden Chair. Personally for a 2 hour film I was really surprised they were releasing so much of these "moments" online and it looks now even Kevin Feige was surprised. During the world premiere Kevin hinted towards not liking how much footage was shown during spots/trailers. John doesn't Disney pre-approve these spots with Marvel before releasing it and if so what led to Kevin having a disapproval tone?
Watch John's new documentary, "Movie Trailers: A Love Story" available now worldwide at www.vimeo.com/o... and also available in the US and UK on Amazon Video.

That's why I don't watch the TV spots cause those few seconds will ruin it. I think they really need to do TV spots but just recycle old footage. Keep them hidden. Even though we knew Tobey and Andrew were coming we saw no footage of them until the leak. I hate how it leaks on YT or social media though.

Disney needs to play it very cautiously. Feige has been the glue that has held everything in the MCU together. I'd really hate for the cohesion to go out of the window once/if Feige steps down. Then we have to deal with canonical and sequential issues like Lucas Films and Sony has in the past.

For the past few years I’ve been actively avoiding trailers. I just watch the first one, and that’s it. Unfortunately a negative about going to the movies so much, besides seeing the same trailers for movies I don’t want to see, is seeing 2nd/3rd/4th trailers for movies I DO want to see. I try to ignore it and not watch/listen, but that only goes so far. One thing I’ve been concerned about lately is that John and them openly discuss things that are in (later) trailers so they’ve told me things I didn’t want to know before the movie.

It doesn't even matter anymore. I simply land on the RU-vid homepage and there are already leaked clips of the cameos in the movie. I don't click on the videos, but the thumbnails already show the spoilers. It's so frustrating. The only way to avoid spoilers online is to just stay offline.

@thecaptainatlas

I also feel like there were too many TV spots or 15 second clips and that they showed “too much.” Of course, this is me talking before I’ve even seen the film, but revealing things like Captain Carter felt like they were giving too many of those “moments” away. I’m this case, ignorance is truly bliss and that would have been a nice thing to experience during the movie and not out of context in a 15 second clip. I know, it’s ultimately on me to actively try to avoid these things, but still. Some things are worth waiting for. Regardless, I’m sure I’ll still love the movie and will be talking and thinking about it until Thor 4!

While I thought a lot was shown, there’s just so much more that isn’t seen and the context to the snippets we have been teased and any rumored stuff is just so much better. Best comparison I have is seeing a preview of your food you’re really excited for, it’s making you hungrier and you’re kinda impatient for it but when it’s placed in front of you it’s all the more better after that build up. The context for everything just had me getting more hyped for everything as it started unraveling.

This is why some are dissatisfied. Because the revealing of cameos led people to believe those characters would play a larger part. Some people were expecting an avengers type of film. If you go into it wanting a dr strange movie then it’s a solid movie. Infact the trailer made me annoyed bc I thought it was really another big marvel team up film and it would rush the story for the sake of multiverse buildup . The movie was good because it told a well paced story and focused on the right characters I also bet the people who thought it didn’t reveal too much are then going to say they didn’t like the movie. Because subconsciously they were expecting more from those reveals. If you were seeing that for the first time while the movie played out you would have received it the right way, the way it was intended, for surprise but then shock. Instead, people saw the trailers and heard of leaks and expected a movie that was never intended to be anticipated in that manner to being with

I only watched the first two trailers and halted myself from then on. I entered the theater wanting to see Strange, know America, and witness how does Wanda have a hand this story. I watch this show often and listened to what the crew was saying and was excited with such theories speculated, yet the moment I entered the theater, I dropped all of that and watched the movie. For the most part, I really had a great time. Even got teary eyed hear and there with the unexpected emotionality of the film. If advice can be given, I tend to watch as little as possible until I'm interested in a film. When that happens, I don't watch anything else. I suppose my only experience of not watching a trailer/tv spot for a movie whatsoever was the last jedi and I was stunned by the film. I don't believe a lot of people would get that type of experience with such restriction and I understand that can difficult for others who really want to know and what their share of entertainment. Marvel has earned my guaranteed ticket to every future movie with their last 10 years, and I don't want to have to bury my head every day for a month before each film to avoid spoilers. Give me a teaser and give me a full trailer and nothing else. Marketing doesn't need to win me over anymore. None of the clips actually spoiled me, it's the fkin youtube reactors showing the characters through their thumbnails. So annoying.. It's like even if i choose to not know too much about the movie by avoiding the tv spots, I'm gonna get spoilt anyway..

I'm gonna be just a little bit spoilerish here (no plot points or anything major), so please don't read if you have problem with that. But I feel what Kris is sayng about getting more excited with these revelations might backfire a bit, because you not only lost the surprise of those elements, but by them now being in the trailers, you might expect them to be more relevant to the movie than they actually are. And I think misplaced expectations are already a problem with a lot of MCU movies (and this one in particular -- which might account for some of the negative reactions). So, to me, these marketing decisions are potentially just making things worse in that regard.

I'm watching this tomorrow here in the UK. However, with all the marketing I feel like I've seen most of the major plot points of this movie and it absolute blows. I feel like there's noting in this movie now that can surprise me. It was the same with deadpool when that first released. All the best jokes and action scenes were in the trailers.

I was really excited to see Multiverse of Madness. It was my most anticipated phase 4 project from the get go. @@arizonaolave Sorry. Im not overly fond of public cinemas to begin with. Hate the theatre watching experience. Look at the end of the day everyone has a different bar of what is and is not a "spoiler". To some people showing captain Carter is absolutely a spoiler because that's the way they like to enjoy their movies. I don't think there's anything wrong with that.

I still think having that Patrick Stewart line at the end of the trailer was a *COLOSSAL* mistake, they really should’ve saved that for the actual movie, imagine how much people’s brains would’ve exploded if they saw that for the first time in the theaters, thankfully we haven’t seen any more cameos or heard voices from potential cameos in the rest of the marketing but yeah, I still look at the Patrick Stewart one and go “Why the hell did you guys do that?”
