I actually watched it live but had somehow managed to avoid the spoilers so I was totally shocked when he popped up. God knows why the beeb decided to put him in the trailer. It was so much better not knowing.

But the excitement of "OMG IT'S CAPTAIN JACK!" even if you did expect him to return after Judoon, it's way better than already knowing

This two part finale is damn good ..probably my favorite of the series . It was nice to see the OG Cybermen again aswell as the return of John Simm as The Master . The performances ,story and characters were engaging as always .

The OG cybermen were fantastic. I just don't get why they felt the need to include every revived series Cybermen design too. undermines the OG ones a bit since there would be no reason to keep absolete old versions (choosing windows 95 over windows 10 for example)

The Cybermen aren't trying to be efficient conquerors; they're a misfired attempt at immortality. They don't terminate their own simply for being out of date, that'd go against the point. (And there's no reason not to assume that it's impossible, or at least needlessly costly, to go through the trouble of re-converting OG Cybermen all over again; they may simply not be compatible.)

Yeah, I wish they'd at least tried to keep John Simm and the Mondasian Cybermen returning a secret, kind of envious of the people coming to the show only now who can be surprised by this. Though to be honest the episode still managed to catch me off guard in a lot of ways, I didn't realize I'd been watching Simm the entire episode until he started talking with Missy, and Bill getting shot and turned into a Cyberman was just brutal to see happen to a companion.

I figured it was him fairly quickly but at least partly because the Beeb spoiled John Simm's return in the series promo (as a consequence, I haven't watched one since). The other main reason being the part is quite a prominent role and though it might not be apparent to people from outside the UK, the bigger roles are almost always played by actors well known to UK viewers (so I was actively trying to work out who he was under the makeup).

@@oldwebshooterRainyShed because all but one reactor I'm aware of don't watch Classic Who until after New Who (if at all). The only one that does (again, that I'm aware of) is 7th Hour Films who watches bits of Classic Who along with New Who!

The Master revealing himself from under disguise was a nod to classic era Who where he did that often. During the 1980s it was often the episode cliffhanger.

When Missy says "Look at the screens" that's also a sly reference to Classic Who when the leading actor was always billed as "Dr Who"! (Hence the following line: "I grew up with him - and his real name is 'Dr Who'!!!")

NuWho too in fact. Christopher Eccleston was credited as 'Doctor Who' but when David Tennant took over he requested they credit him as 'The Doctor' because that's how the 5th Doctor (one of Tennant's favourites) and onwards were credited and he preferred it.

Yes, the Ice Warriors were in "Cold War" - and in Classic Who - as was Alpha Centauri who appeared in a couple of Third Doctor-era episodes set on a planet called Peladon... alongside the Ice Warriors (which made that episode a prequel to Classic Who!)

As others have said, it's great you didn't have the Master spoiled for you. The BBC put him in the trailer for the whole series at the very beginning (possibly as a misdirect so we'd think it's him in the Vault). This is actually the very first ever Multi-Master episode, after many past Multi-Doctor episodes. It was also cool seeing the Mondasian Cybermen back. Also, to answer your question about the Ice Warriors, they were indeed in the Matt Smith episode on the submarine, but were also mentioned in the David Tennant episode "The Waters of Mars" as well as appearing in loads of classic Who episodes.

Season 10 was terrible for spoilers. I can only guess that the usual media team all took time off and their replacements just didn't quite understand why it's not a good idea to put spoilers everywhere.

Surpriiiiise! I'm so glad the Master reveal wasn't spoiled for you; we knew even before the start of the season that John Simm would be back. It was still a cool moment, mind you, but it would have been so much better if we'd had no idea. There are a lot of references here to the Classic Who story The Tenth Planet, which was the Cybermen's debut (and the First Doctor's final story). I highly recommend it if you get the chance.

There were two clues for the two plot twists at play here. The first is the voice of the bandaged people. The second is the music, they kept playing his theme without that strong drumbeat. I'm actually really happy you didn't figure it out before the reveal. The genuine surprised reaction was perfect.

I absolutely love this story!!! That ending was amazing!!! At the time a lot of people had been spoiled about the Master coming back, and well... that sucks but I'm so glad you didn't because your reaction was AMAZING!!! I loved how at the end of this episode when Missy and The Caretaker guy are talking it keeps jumping back to The Doctor, Nardole and Bill so that you don't over think What is happening with Missy and The Master so you don't figure it out straight away... it's so clever!!! Love this story so much and I can't wait to see the next two episodes!!!😄😭

Reaction videos for this episode are always really fun. So many great moments in this one. It's one of my favourite episodes. Missy, the Master, and a version of the Cybermen we haven't seen since the 60s... what's not to love? And regarding 10x9, yes, the Ice Warriors were the ones Clara and 11 encountered on the submarine (although that one was from about 5000 years earlier in their history). The cyclops alien with the high-pitched voice who appeared at the end of 10x9 also appeared alongside the Ice Warriors in a couple of stories with the Third Doctor back in the 70s.

Despite the writing going down hill when Moffat took over the writing from RTD he still wrote individually good episodes... This 2/3 parter was my favourite. I’d have to go as far as saying it was better than some of RTDs big hits!! The whole plot start to finish was amazing! Moffat actually wrote a good story for Capaldi 👌

The funny thing about the Master and Missy is that you get a duality between what he/she *could* be and who they really are. Also, I enjoy how the Master gets right back into his game whether it's 10 or 12, they're all the Doctor to him (I guess he really is the Doctor's friend, seeing him for who he truly is regardless of the face).

It had already been spoiled by someone posting photos during filming so the BBC had no choice but to roll with it. They did want it to be a secret and a surprise but once the pictures came to light and the British press ran with the story they didn't have much of a choice. It had been intended to be a shock surprise by using the publicity of the return of the original cybermen as a smoke screen for the Master reveal, the same way they did with the identity of Missy.

Yes, that was also an Ice Warrior in the 11th Doctor story you mentioned. That was the first time the Ice Warriors had been seen in Doctor Who since 1974! On an interesting side note about the second Ice Warrior Story with Capaldi, they brought back actress Ysanne Churchman to reprise her role as the voice of Alpha Centauri. (The Cycloptic Alien who appears on the communication screen at the end.) Churchman had last played the part in 1974's "The Monster of Peladon". (The last classic series Ice Warrior story.) The actress is now 92!

This episode really reminded me of Moffats first story way back in series 1. It recaptured that spookiness. These two episodes are probably one of the best series finales in the show.

The Master fooled me with his disguise even though I knew John Simms was going to come back to the show. What a twist. Close to the end now. I expect plenty of tears coming from you with these last two episodes of Capaldi's run.

Mondas was the Tenth Planet and the home planet of the original cybermen. The first Doctor faced them in his final episode. Over the years they've continued upgrading, but this was what they looked like in their first appearance.

I was a mess when Bill was turned into a Cyberman. It was so heartbreaking when she kept saying that she waited. Loved seeing the Master and Missy together.

"If this ends on a cliffhanger..." - You knew it would lol. This is one good thing about you not watching the 'next time' parts, they showed John Simm coming back at the start of the series. But even though I knew he was back in this episode, he was that good, I didn't realise it was him until he spoke to Missy.

This became one of my favorite finales simply because Simm returned. I adore him as the Master. And he played it to perfection.

I got really sad when Capaldi left because he was great, and it was Moffat’s final episodes too, and Murray Gold who composes the music- and I love the music he’s done for Who. You’ll notice in these final episodes, a lot of his old songs are playing in the background which didn’t usually happen, as a sort of farewell I guess. I love watching people’s reaction to these episodes too, and your reaction was basically mine 😂 Can’t wait for the next one. Probably one of my top favourite two-partners from Doctor Who too, even though this series wasn’t my favourite. 😄

Ice Warriors were first introduced in Second Doctor era, but yeah, they were in that episode with submarine and Davos Seaworth ;p Also 10th Doctor brought them up briefly in "Waters of Mars".

I saw this episode with my dad and he pretty quickly caught on that it was John Simm and he said it to me and was like "oh my days that's john simm" and then I couldn't not notice it for the rest of the episode
