Why Liverpool in 1820? Because that’s when Williamson (real person) dug the ‘Williamson Tunnels’. Which are the tunnels that are still there today. The ones that nobody has any real idea about why he dug them. You can visit the ones that have been (fairly recently) re-excavated.

The two guards near the start of the episode, checking on the Swarm, might be part of The Division. Their guns are exactly the same as the Ruth Doctor and the Gallifreyan hunting her last season. So, The Swarm probably knows The Doctor from either before Tecteun found her by the portal or before the Timelords and The Division wiped her memory. That’s why The Swarm knows her. So, it’s all pre-Hartnell, Timeless Child stuff.
@shauntempley9757
@shauntempley9757 2 года назад
That is possible. Then, there is the possibility that the Swarm could have altered time and space by existing. The Swarm may also be lying. Instead of fighting the Doctor each time, it is a fight that just started here with 13 first, then ruptures back to past Doctors from this point, and time compensated by creating more Doctors. Or, it is an old enemy that takes a new form each time it shows up. The Great Intelligence is one such villain that did that.

I thought outpost rose had a interior very similar to that of the black hole base in “the impossible planet” episodes with David tennant. Also separate from that, the guy who was doing the log looks a lot like the captain who was making logs in the David tenant episode.

Yep, William Hartnell’s health began deteriorating drastically around the beginning of his third season which led to him not being present, or at least physically present, in a lot of episodes. Peter Purves, who played one of his then-companions Steven at the time, had to do a lot of the heavy lifting in the show and essentially had to fill the role of the protagonist in many stories. This was unfortunate for the bbc and the producers because the show was a massive success and they didn’t want it to be cut short so they came up with the concept of regeneration, although it wasn’t called that at the time, which would allow them to cast a new, more capable actor for the role….and then they just ran with that for over sixth years as you do.

The way they describe the overall lore of “Doctor Who” as being a crazy quilt of stuff that dozens of people added to over the years is pretty much how it happened. We had no idea there were any other time travelling dudes like the Doctor until we met one in a late second season story called “The Time Meddler” which had to have been a hell of a jolt back in the day. They invented regeneration because William Hartnell was ailing and they wanted to continue the show without him. Then ten years later after a couple more regenerations the head writer decided to cap it at 12 because he hated god-like superbeings and thought they were boring and wanted to impose some kind of limit on them. A few years after that, an offhand side bit in “Five Doctors” suggested (maybe accidentally) that the Time Lords could extend the life cycle beyond a dozen if they wanted to and decades later Moffat picked up on that to get beyond Matt Smith. There was no grand plan that anyone is following. Moffat talked a bit about having fun trying to weave together the bits that totally don’t fit to enrich the canon - he spoke once of how cool it would be to make Paul McGann’s “I’m half human on my mother’s side” fit so that it all made sense, for example, but nobody’s done that yet. This ‘wing it’ approach can be annoying for some people who really wish TV didn’t work like this but “Doctor Who” is the only show I can think of that has made a virtue of it. I think it’s a miracle that the show is still going. The jury’s still out on this ‘timeless child’ thing but there’s no reason the show can’t absorb this like everything else and carry on. Yup, I’m still optimistic. ☺️

For me my issue with it is just the destruction of the entire thing with The Doctor being a Time Lord, being from Gallifray. Them being the Doctor's people. The Doctor just being essentially an ordinary being (in terms of their race) who just decided to run away and go on an adventure and then became special from that, not that they were always special in some weird 'you're not actually one of us, we just nicked your ability for ourselves' way. I get that the story is developed over the years and different showrunners want to put their stamp on the legacy (like say the time war being a big factor of new who!) but changing that aspect of The Doctor still feels kinda wrong to me, like the change has been made disingenuously just to crap on what the writers before him came up with in a way to try and establish a complete origin for the character that can only ever be attributed to him. I hope it can be concluded in a good way and potentially fixed/managed in a good way when the current showrunner leaves, but atm it still feels like a pile of shit dumped into the core of the show that they will have to either just completely ignore (making it feel out of place and weird given it has to be treated as fact now) or will have to work with for future storylines. Especially with how much they've doubled down on many of the aspects in the episodes in the rest of s13 and the specials after it (to the point I'm writing this at!).

You may well be right, but there's only so many ways to say it - synonyms like "revitalised" and "revivified" sound a bit lame, and perhaps not everyone would understand them, and "reborn" has already been taken by the Jacobi Master.

The thing I love about Doctor Who is that all the rules of the universe are so obviously built to be whatever the writer of a specific story needs. It's so brazen in it's don't give a fuck-ness. So, I'll never understand people who get upset about Doctor Who canon. I get people not liking this decision or that that one, that's fine, everyone has different tastes. @Steviesaurus_
@Steviesaurus_ 2 года назад
@@dylanburton4955 payoff is a massive concern for me as well. I liked the set up of the Timeless Child. I even liked what the Timeless Child was, my only issue was the decision to make The Doctor THE Timeless Child. So far we’ve seen that they’re keeping The Division stuff etc so I’m hoping her being the Timeless Child is kinda swept under the rug because hidden memories/regenerations and the Division was an aspect of that story I was genuinely curious about. But as you said the execution of the idea and the pay off at the end of Series 12 wasn’t good and that’s what soured it. I feel like it being one 6 part story instead of a 10 episode underlying narrative thread will work better for how he writes cause he has made good stuff that followed one plot throughout like Broadchurch (first season only) which was only what 5 episodes?? So he should manage to do it. But he has let the fandom and even casual fans down somewhat since taking the helm. I guess in a long meandering way I’m saying “I guess we’ll see.” 😂😂

First one for the Doctor being in that episode, then first meeting for her being maybe the 3rd one for The Doctor and the second one for the Doctor happening wherever she was just transported to by the angel. Either that or she's remembering things in the wrong order, which shouldn't be possible unless her mind is scrambled somehow so that things happen exactly as they did and the first meeting she was talking about is actually the one in her "future" that she was just transported to. There's either some time loop stuff going on or she's special in some way that the weeping angels can't exactly get her cause maybe she doesn't age and always finds her way back home, the long way around, and maybe so the angels have kept hunting her down, so maybe it has an effect on her memory or an effect on how she experiences time, as a result

Classic Who from 1963 until it's cancellation in 1989 was full of serialised stories. I'm very happy they brought the serial format back I wish they would get back to that more often I don't think stories get resolved well in episodic stories in my opinion and I love the cliffhangers. The alien dog was awesome I was excited to see the Classic Sontarans return and of course the Weeping Angels. Usually I take awhile to warm up to a new companion but Dan immediately knocked it out of the park for me and became a very likeable character. Jodie Whittaker also got better as The Doctor in this. Great episode so far. I hope at some point in the future you guys do a reaction to the Classic Series there's so many great stories to explore from Doctors 1-7.

My understanding is that all six episodes are a story arc. The first Doctor became sick, and the story had become popular. That is when the writers came up with regeneration. That season was The Doctor travelling with his granddaughter, Susan. Capaldi's Doctor had a photo of her on her desk. Also, Dan is from Liverpool. Dan and Yas both have accents from the North of England. The Doctor has a northern English accent also.

In Scotland we call Trick or Treating "Guising", I think it comes from dressing up in disguises scrounging for sweets. Though I'm pretty sure everybody in the UK just calls it Halloween.

Maybe this is the beginning of Claire's adventure and it just started with her meeting the Doctor and Yaz from the future who gave her detailed instructions about what's about to happen, and then she happens to run into them before she's supposed to and is like "Oh, hi. I guess I'll see you in the past if it's true." Basically the reverse role of the 10th Doctor and Sally Sparrow, where Claire knows what to say and do in the past to help the confused-beginner-Doctor because she met the end-of-story-Doctor before she started.

@Lumibear.
@Lumibear. 2 года назад
Well it is definitely a continuous six parter this year, hence the return of the cliffhanger electronic scream, Dan is definitely a new companion for this series, Karvanista is based on Chibnall’s dog, this Sontaran are based on the 70s style to stop us associating them with friendly Strax, and there’s a strong rumour we’re getting a new Tardis soon. My personal theory is the bad guys are a sort of sentient entropy or anti-matter, they live forever absorbing energy, time and matter until nothing is left, then move onto an alternate dimension/universe, and the Timelords try to keep them under control to preserve ours.
@Lumibear.

Best 51 minute trailer for a 5 episode Dr Who series. I estimated that to create the shield, each doggy ship would need to be about 50sq miles in area to cover the Earth at the boundry hight of space. Perhaps Claire is a timelady?

This is a great start to the season (by Chibnall standards) I don't understand how some of my favourite episodes (Hungry Earth/Cold Blood, Pond Life, Dinosaurs on a Spaceship, Power of Three, P.S.) can be written by Chibnall, but when given complete control he messed everything up. Fingers crossed Flux can start to redeem him. So happy RTD is back in charge for the 60th anniversary though, he brought Doctor Who back from the dead once, I'm sure he can manage to save it when it's still got a faint pulse.
@robertcartier5088
@robertcartier5088 2 года назад
Their mistake is in promoting writers to be showrunners. Not all of them are up to the task, and this is the result. Others, like Moffat, do an ok job until they get distracted by other projects and then the same thing happens. A degradation in quality. I share your optimism for the return of RTD! ;-]
@JackCaz
@JackCaz 2 года назад
@@robertcartier5088 I completely agree but on paper, Chibnall should have been great. He had some really strong Doctor Who episodes under his belt, but most importantly he had been the show runner of some amazing shows. Broadchurch is still one of the greatest British dramas this century, and Torchwood was well loved by the fans, and Chibnall was a Whovian since childhood. All the ingredients are there, he just still managed to disappoint with the writing style he chose for his run.
