It's just that she lasted A LOT and people got tired I think, she also started to be too much of a focus for the Doctor like, the Doctor it's going to bring hell but no, Clara doesn't approve so it can't be done. It's fine when a companion influences the Doctor a little, but it can be jarring when they almost seem to take full control. I did get a little tired by the end but personally I don't have a problem with Clara for the most part and I liked her a lot.

I was ridiculously excited for this reaction, and it did not disappoint. That was amazing. I’m so glad they seem to love Clara, as well as her chemistry with the Doctor. That’s one of the reasons she got cast, because she was one of the few people who could talk as fast as Matt. And I wasn’t expecting so much laughter but was pleasantly surprised! Strax is hilarious. Clara is wonderful. Matt is great. Vastra and Jenny are delightful. The “one word” scene is one of my absolute favourites. So much excitement for Clara being the companion - which I loved. Also the SHOCK of one moment saying she should be the companion, and then having her dying on them - AGAIN. Brilliant. Aaron’s pokerface is great. I love this episode. It has this wonderful, magical vibe, very fantastical fairytale, it looks gorgeous and also like. Richard E. Grant as the villain. I’m sold. Also, best companion music theme, I think. AND - well done with the editing, Lono. A lot of great moments. And hilarious zoom-ins. Don’t want to go into spoilers, so I feel like I can’t talk much more - but I actually am very excited going forward from here.

@TheJadedJames 3 года назад
I think with Clara's introduction, the writers had exactly the correct idea. Instead of being the Doctor's Watson, she's the Doctor's Robin. Instead of being a normal person to contrast him, she's so much like him THAT'S where the conflict comes in. But after Snowmen, the show dramatically tones down her eccentric personality and makes her just another normal British girl again but without the personal connection to the Doctor that made Amy matter. Then suddenly towards the end of Series 8 Flatline happens, and the writers all collectively remembered what Clara's characterization was again

Love that you guys warmed to Clara immediately. Yes Jenna is beautiful. But you're spot on the chemistry is bang on from the word go. The nature of the shows continual rebirth is both it's most appealing and risky usp. Will we like the new Doctor's personality and the travelling companions? For me this episode demonstrates it's the writing that is obviously fundamentally integral to making that transition as smooth as possible. Possibly more important than the casting, as there are tons of talented actors out there waiting for a break. But a change to your main writer and a show risks losing it's identity. It's a big ask and an unenviable job.

@TheZebbga 5 лет назад
Its not a prequel. Web of Fear was set in the 1960's as Brigadior Leth-Bridge Stewart was in it and I don't think he ever traveled in the TARDIS (at least not by choice). This is a different version of the Great Intelligence as well, making it the third time it appeared. So although it does take place before Web of Fear, it isn't a direct continuation.
@MrToastBenstudios
@MrToastBenstudios 5 лет назад
TheZebbga still a prequel as it precedes Web of Fear, the Great Intelligence is the same entity here just portrayed in an updated, modern style and web of fear although airing in 1960s is set in the late 70s/80s

@jessicaable5095 5 лет назад
Plenty of reasons why people don't like her. Also, plenty of things that are likable about her. The bad things kinda outway those for me though. After a while, it isn't just the character. It's the general air of self importance that both she and Moffet are trying to convey. 'the doctor's best friend'. No. That was Donna. They were the epitamy of best friends, and not once did she ever want to snog him. That was amazing! Aaaand she got one season, while Clara gets, what, four? Honestly, I doubt four seasons would really have worked for Donna, but it doesn't work for ANY companion, including Clara. All that flamin pomp and ceremony for when she finally left. It barely meant anything to me, as the amount of time she got with the Doctor felt more than fair. What's actually tragic about most companions leaving is that they could have given so much more to the Doctor's adventures. That's what's so heartbreaking about them. And then Moffet expects me to feel the same emotion after severel fakeouts and a complete milking dry of the character? No. Look, you can like her, but I hope you now kinda understand why others don't. It isn't an odd thing to hate how they handled her character, ok?
@aleztfu
@aleztfu 5 лет назад
@@jessicaable5095 I never said that there weren't any reasons to dislike her, just that the amount and intensity of the hatred she got have always seemed excessive to me. I don't think it's fair to say that Moffat was trying to replace or imitate Donna through Clara: the idea of the companion being the Doctor's best friend is quite old, RTD didn't come up with it and it isn't exclusive to one companion. Donna was the Tenth Doctor's best friend, yes. But so was Rose, and Amy for the Eleventh Doctor, and in the case of Clara she had an extra special connection with the Twelfth. I really don't think the exclusivity that you adscribe to Donna in that regard exists. As for her time in the show, it was three seasons (Series 7, 8 and 9), not four. You may think it was too much and that's okay, but once again, it's not the first time a companion has had an extended run. Amy almost had the same number of adventures as her, Rose had two full seasons and then returned as a guest, not to mention classic companions like Sarah Jane with quite long stays on board the TARDIS. Why is it okay for others but not Clara? Furthermore, if the drama from a companion's departure were usually derived by how they didn't have enough time with the Doctor, as you say, then there would only be cause to feel sad for one-season companions, which I think is not really the case. You also seem to be forgetting that the "fakeout" regarding Clara's departure was not planned: Jenna Coleman originally intended to leave at the end of Series 8 and that was going to be her permanent exit, but she changed her mind. Can you blame Moffat for that?
@somedudeontwitterstalkedme3829
@@aleztfu as you can see, even by the responses, you will get. It is because in some people's mind she was placed above someone they like (here it was Donna, but other times they will talk about how she was "more" of something then the other person). The hate is because she was a strong independent woman who refused to take a backseat and some Doctor Who fans hate change which is really strange when you think about it because of all of the change that happens.

Hell, a third problem is that she basically becomes the doctor at the very end with her own companion and tardis, and the story frames that as a good thing. Honestly, her arc should have ended with the shadow raven thing if they needed to have her on for so long. Honestly, I have a love-hate relationship with her. I think she's awesome as who she is, and the chemistry is great, but I got uncomfortable when they started to kinda have this love subtext hovering around at some points. I'm like, noooo River is the best! lol. I mean sure, not romantic (though the writers got too close to that sometimes for me), but like, this deeper thing kind of like what was implied with Amy. I don't know, I feel like we just left and grieved over that, and I don't want them to make something more special than River after introducing River, know. And when there are moments where it seems like he just does what she wants without hesitation :/ and I agree she was around just a tad too long. Even the best of shows can ruin themselves with too many seasons, and that goes for characters as well. But her as a character was fun, and I loved the whole 'leaf' thing. After the Tardis crashed to earth, The Doctor changed the Tardis the first time he met Amy and has had it ever since. He needed a change of scenery because it brought too much pain to remember Amy and Rory's time in that version of the Tardis. That's my theory.

The orange/brass set for Smith was actually a rebuild of the Torchwood Hub set, which was next door to the original Eccelston one, and they just kept the original up, as well. This is why you see it again later. And it's why you don't see the Hub set in Miracle Day.

The human villain in this is played by Richard E Grant (withnail and I), who has the distinction of having played The Doctor himself not in one past incarnation but two. Before the reboot, after the "movie" the BBC had both a comedy special for charity. The doctor dies several times and grant played one of the regenerations. Then again, before the reboot, the BBC made some animated shorts for its then website (also shown on tv eventually) when Grant played the 9th doctor (a different doctor 9 from the reboot one). The interesting thing about this is that both of these are both official productions AND considered semi-canon. Like at some point between 8 and 9 a split in reality took place and the doctor existed in different universes at once. Oh and the Patrick Troughton (the first actor to play the doctor as a full timelord, the best doctor, the actor with the fewest surviving episodes) first episode has him fight abominable snowmen, as in sasquatch or Bigfoot not literal snowmen... Just a side note. Anyway, only a few episodes left until the 50th anniversary *rubs hands* very excited

Not sure if anyone mentioned this but the doctor redecorated the tardis control room, but in reality they had to move from the warehouse/studio where the tardis set was build but the old set was to big and they felt their was a lot of dead space which they never used in scenes so they made a new tardis set made out of steel which is smaller, in there new warehouse/studio set up somewhere (I think it's in Cardiff).

I've never seen them so excited about a new companion, and, therefore, about the show itself. I love that they immediately wanted Oswin as a companion and that double-high-five when, finally(!), modern Clara appears and there's no mistake that she is the new companion. Eric was about to burst with joy lol. And I know I said this before, but I love when Eric calls her "beautiful girl", she absolutely is. (Twelve in the distance, grumpily amazed at her huge eyes.) And Eric shooting out ideas of who/what Clara is reminded me of Eleven's "what are you? a trick? a trap?" So many good scenes to come!
