I've got one of these, but it's been stored away for about 25 years. I had it on display before that and the console was still working at that time. I remember it seeming expensive when I bought it in the early 90s, but there was hardly any other merchandise being made back then!
This was a big improvement on the original K9 Dapol released which, for some bizarre reason, was green. Other faux pas included the 5-sided TARDIS console and the two-armed Davros (which they eventually resolved by clipping off one arm with shears!) I always wanted this set, but never got it. I had Davros and about 15 Dapol Daleks in all sorts of crazy colours. Towards the end they did some odd things, like semi-transparent purple or green Daleks with metallic flecks in the plastic. And, bizarrely, they did a brown Dalek as well. I ended up doing my work experience,aged about 14, I guess, at a local model railway shop. Dapol was essentially a manufacturer of model railway scenery and they used to send a few Daleks with every order so that the model shop could try and push them out. They stayed on the shelves for years because nobody wanted to buy them, until the packaging faded. So I ended up with a few of those on a special discount.
Yeah, Dapol were really shoddy when it came to the Doctor Who line. I have both versions of Davros and the Green K9. The transparent/glitter Daleks you refer to are the ‘Millennium Daleks’ - a cheap cash in on the year 2000 celebrations. I have the full set of six of those too, you could get them separately or in a box set, I picked up the box set a couple of years ago. Nice story about the work experience :)
