"For a long time now, I thought I was just a survivor. But I'm not. I'm the winner." Tennant's low-key menace in this scene gives me genuine chills every time. In that moment you really believe he's capable of anything. The Doctor is immensely powerful and power _usually_ corrupts, in a lot of ways it's kind of amazing it took this long. And it's also a nice depiction of the way PTSD can sometimes turn to anger - in his pain the Doctor is basically "lashing out" at the workings of the universe itself, at the very existence of loss and grief.

I think part of it is that he's always had the Time Lords and the Master to remind himself of what he could become if corrupted by the power they wield.

I love watching the Doctor's modern incarnations from the standpoint of "each regeneration is a different phase of post-trauma behavior" Kind of why I wasn't keen on Chibnall's doc being a disjointed mashup of the previous ones instead of her own thing

Yes, but also I don't know, I feel like it is a bit nuanced ( and interesting but I can be very wrong with this ) when you think about The Fire of Pompeii. Really interesting episode where Donna herself asks the Doctor to risk altering a bit of reality to save at least someone. Save someone because that's what the Doctor is, the traveller who goes across time and universe and save as many people as he can. But it's very interesting to see in both situations, even if Donna and The Doctor had good intentions ( even if 10 went Time Lord Victorious, vengeful god etc. ) it went badly because apparently Time doesn't like changes. Given the Caecilius situation and " Me. " So in a sense Donna is right because of what she has seen in The Runaway Bride, he needs someone to stop him and to not be alone, but very interestingly it may be also nuanced since you know, The Doctor changes people but the reverse is also true. So with The Fire of Pompeii in mind it's interesting, but I may be talking nonsense x)

That final scene between The Doctor and Adelaide is really intense. You think the ending will be victorious but then the mood suddenly changes and the music shifts to a very ominous and dark tone once The Doctor starts changing and the realisation on Adelaide’s face says it all. The Doctor becomes wild in declaring he is the Time Lord victorious and he suddenly becomes the Master in that moment. Adelaide killing herself snaps him back to reality and he suddenly becomes aware of the horror and realisation that he’s gone too far with his actions. The next two reactions are going to be real emotional. I know you’ve already seen it and you braced yourself for it. But that still won’t be enough I’m afraid. 😬 Back in Utopia Doctor: I’m sorry. Master: TOUGH! And now... Adelaide: No one should have that power Doctor: Tough. And back in RB Donna: Find someone. Because sometimes I think you need someone to stop you.

The Time Lord Victorious isn't evil. Evil is simple to understand. Base. Passionate, cruel, held to anger and hatred and lust. We know evil, and as frightening as it can be, evil isn't that powerful. We all understand evil. Evil has limits. The Timelord Victorious isn't evil. It isn't the Doctor without morals. Its the Doctor without limits. Without restraint. Without checks. The Doctor unleashed isn't evil - he's still the Doctor. He's raw power. Life and death. Time and Space. All according to his will. The power of one thousand generations of nigh Godlike beings, confined to one person, one will. Graham Green said: "You cannot conceive, nor can I, of the appalling strangeness of the mercy of God.” That I think applies here. The Time Lord Victorious is such unrestrained power, that even his act here is horrifying. Think about that for a moment. He doesn't do anything evil. He saves people's lives. Its objectively a good thing. Life over death. What he did here wasn't evil. But it was repulsive nevertheless. Because just for a moment, we get a glimpse of what it would be like, if someone, anyone, could control anything. Complete and total power over the whole of reality. Make it whatever you will. Usurp the wills and destinies of everything that ever lived or ever was. Every death, every sacrifice, every war, every calamity, ever birth and every invention, done or undone upon the will of a mortal, fallible, *broken* person. The entirety of reality in the palm, not of a God - with unlimited wisdom. Its like watching a toddler play with a hand grenade, with the yield to annihilate a solar system. Good and Evil doesn't come into it. Such power, barely conceivable, is astonishing because its mere existence insults any concept of self determination, of order, or rightness to the universe. For good or for evil, its terrifying.

@@benlowe1701 so the doctor becoming the monster? not "evil" but beyond our perception of morality.
@benlowe1701
@benlowe1701 3 года назад
@@Darth_Nycta_13 Sometimes evil is shocking. But it doesn't have to be evil to be terrifying. Case an point. Take the ultimate expression of good. The Abrahamic God. (Bare with me here. I'm not going on a sermon.) Western media - knowingly or not - takes a lot of beats from Christian art. Hell season 3 outright has Ten being Resurrected with a crucifix pose, and holding the Master's corpse like post-crucifixition imagery. So it seems a starting good point. 10 was called the lonely God for a reason. When he cut lose it was pretty biblical. The Old Testament God was terrifying. Good certainly. But ruthless, mind numbingly powerful. Beyond conception. There's a wondrous piece of Islamic scripture where a prophet asks to be shown Gods true form. Instead, God reveals his true form to a nearby mountain. And the mountain is vapourised. Biblical angels aren't cheerie babies with wings and halos. They were monstrous, eldritch lovecraftian horrors. Benevolent certainly. But still terrifying. Looking at one directly would be enough to make your mind cave in. There is a reasons Angels are always shown disguised, or else the first words out their mouths are 'don't be afraid.' And those the good guys. The ultimate good guys. Gods are terrifying. Just the idea of them is so appallingly shockingly beyond any thing we can comprehend. The Time Lord Victorious is a little like seeing an old Testament Doctor. We are used to the New. Full of mercy, grace and going out of his way to be human like. With Time Lord victorious, it's like when the veil parts and we see what he's capable of.

The Ood at the end was the one who told him ‘your song is ending soon’. The Ood race are telepathic but given they also foretold the DoctorDonna they obviously are psychic and have seen the Doctor’s death. The Doctor has always been cocky over the years but this is probably the first time he has really thought too highly of himself thus getting it thrown back in his face. The Doctor May protect the Earth and the universe but he does not dictate how it’s run whether it’s a civilisation or individual lives.

I love this episode so much. It is probably my favorite. Tennant is at his best here, and the guest cast just pulls on your heartstrings. It is an interesting exploration of the Tenth Doctor and how he fares when he's alone. He's amazing, but there is an arrogance and darkness in him that occasionally needs someone to check it. Donna realized this when she told him he needed someone to stop him sometimes. This flaw only makes the Tenth Doctor more interesting to me though, and it is part of the reason he's my favorite of them all.
@Novaximus
@Novaximus 5 лет назад
At this point the Doctor has been afflicted. The experiences he's gone through has cut it's way too deep and "loss" has finally broken him. He's mostly done things by the book and what has he gotten for it? The more he tries to save the more people seem to die. He had to cope with his entire species being wiped out. Everyone he's cared about has left him in some fashion alone in the end. When does he win? He's had enough.. Donna asked him to save … someone. Not them all but someone. Crossing the line and going to far is a constant struggle for the Doctor and you'll see it as a reoccurring theme throughout the shows entirety. But each time it happens you develop an appreciation for why he has the rules he does and the consistency of beliefs and values that carry through to each and every one of his generations which keeps him as the same doctor we all know and love despite everything else changing.

What you're describing is probably something of what most fans go through - there's always a feeling of loss and a bunch of feels when a doctor leaves the show - but fear not - this generally ushers in more fresh tasty goodness to come - and this time, there's be a new chief writer and show-runner - so embrace the grief, tears, laughter and feels and look forward to the heartbreak. You'll miss the current doctor like crazy, and you'll be unsure about the new one.. for about 10 mins - and then you'll fall in love with him all over again.

What I like about this episode is the Doctor doesn't act like himself... and yet he does because there are times throughout the show when the Doctor does slip to frightening (e.g.: "Family of Blood").

Hello Shayla. We are getting there. There no way to change destiny. There are fixed points in time, that can't be altered. That was Ood Sigma at the end. You going to love The End of Time.

The reason why the dalek does not attack Adelaide is due to 2 theories, some say that the dalek saw that Adelaide was a fixed point in time and tried to respect it to avoid a paradox affecting the master plan of the daleks, but it I doubt, the daleks require more research to know if something is a fixed point, they do not have that natural ability to recognize them as if the timelords have it, the other theory and what makes me more credible is that it happened that when he found Adelaide It was when they were no longer collecting humans, that happened in the original episode, that they received the order to no longer bring more humans so they simply retired, there was no need to kill the remaining ones since they would all die when the final plan was executed. There is of course a third theory, which says that the dalek had mercy on him, based on the episode of the ninth season where it is discovered that the daleks do have that concept, but of course, it is even more imberosimile but to believe the fixed point observed by dalek

Kinda interesting how people make Endgame parallels, since Mia Bennett's actor, Gemma Chan, went on to play both Minn-Erva in Captain Marvel and Sersi in Eternals.

Here you see a glimpse of the corruption that took the Time Lords at the end of the Time War. All that power started going into their heads and they came up with the most fucked up things. That's why The Doctor did what he did in the Time War.

Great video! There is a show I really recommend called Torchwood and the full series collection is on BBC iPlayer so I would really recommend watching it. Captain Jack 24/7 is the best way of life aha 😂 Plus it is an incredible series

I’ve heard the theory that when he stopped his regeneration at the end of season 4, he did still change some aspects of his personality. Course that’s not cannon and it could just be because he doesn’t have anyone with him to pull him back from the edge.

The next 3 episodes are where "Doctor Who" latches on and does not let go. I am so envious of where you are right now. I am hoping that I am not to early for this.

Probably been mentioned elsewhere in the comments - but the Time Lord Victorious is the closest nu-Who has gotten to showing us The Valeyard from classic Who.

It felt like the Doctor was responding to what you were saying about him needing someone with his "No". Yeah, this episode puts you in an uncomfortable position with the Doctor towards the end. He was acting less like the Doctor we know and more like the Master, someone who thinks he can mess with other people's lives because he has the power to do so. Luckily, he snapped out of it before any more damage could be done.

It's never really brought up in new who, but there is actually an evil version of the Doctor known as the Valeyard. That scene always reminds me a bit of this.

You know there's actually a Doctor Who comic called 'Four Doctors' which actually details what would have happened if Ten's personality became dominated by The Time Lord Victorious back in The End Of Time. Its a really good comic. You should find a copy and give it a read.

Trust me, I'm not a fan of horror stuff either But when it comes to Doctor Who, it will not necessarily become a nightmare :v He's gone too far. It is already fixed point. You cannot changed any way a fixed point in time...

I did not react to those two, I do not react to every episode due to time constraints. Those two were not on my final list sadly.

The Time Lords didn't make the laws of time, they just enforced them. The Doctor is tired of losing and not being able to save people. I think everyone agrees that the Time Lord Victorious is wrong. As Donna said, he needs someone.

It’s a bit strange but if I think about it I never got around to watching this episode. I’ve seen reactions to this episode but never the full episode itself. Yes I know I’m weird. Totally off topic but do you already have a set list of future episodes for all the Doctor Who series that you’re gonna react to or do you based off of what the comments section recommend? Or is it a mixture of both? Just asking so I can maybe suggest some now because I know you record some episodes super far in advance.
