This is one of the best Doctor Who episodes ever and Tennants performance is fantastic. It shows exactly why The Doctor needs people travelling with him because him being alone and most of the time isolated in the Tardis shows that he could easily become like The Master.
@Lasherluke
@Lasherluke 2 года назад
Exactly, the doctor should of known better then to tamper with fixed history, if he gets it in his head he can do anything what's to stop him from going back in time and altering the course of events from his own timeline such as making sure the daleks never get a chance to open the void ship, making sure the judoon never take the hospital to the moon, etc etc.

Cpt. Brooke did the basic job of the companion in the most brutally yet necessary way. She told the Doctor that he was wrong. He went too far, and it was up to her to fix it. The ultimate, well-deserved smack in the face.

'No one should have that much power.'' The Doctor: ''Tough.'' The Master in season 3: ''Tough.'' This is such clever writing. Not to mention Doctor's ''THEY WILL OBEY ME!'' line. Master's most famous line is: ''I am the master, and YOU WILL OBEY ME!''

There are two episodes here: The Waters of Mars and The Time Lord Victorious. The former is a really great Doctor Who episode with a brilliant setup, great suspense, interesting characters, intriguing mystery, a serious threat and an all around brilliant atmosphere to it. If the episode had ended with the rest of the crew on a normal Mars mission escaping via TARDIS, it'd be a great episode either way ...But we are blessed that it's not on it's own, for then there's the end result of Four Seasons and the year of Isolation taking their toll: The Time Lord Victorious. Before now, the Doctor has always been constrained by various factors, his companions above all who keep him to a level of accountability that neither of them are really aware of, but it still happens. The most obvious example is Donna in Fires of Pompeii. But nevertheless, The Doctor is ruled by a strict set of ethics and principles regarding Space-Time travel and until now, the line has been blurred as to what a "fixed" point is. But now we know it's simply what the Time Lords regard as such...for good damn reason. They did well to instill a young Doctor with these rules. But when everything and everyone was dying all around him, he finally realised something. That he no longer had no live up to those rules. He didn't have a companion to give him that moral support and boundary so all he had was his own potential to continue untapped. And what became of it? They don't call him the Lonely GOD for no reason because that's what the Doctor is to the rest of the universe. A God. A being beyond comprehension and understanding who strides across the universe imposing his will where he sees fit. But we are thankful the Doctor was always less than this, for he had his companions to remind him of what common decency was and the laws of the Time Lords to remind him that Time was not a toy and it was not to be meddled with. ...But those influences on the Doctor are one and the same, imprisoning his greater potential because at his unburdened height? Even Morgoth himself could not wreak such unfathomable havoc as the Doctor if he should have desired it. With no companion to keep him safe, all that was left were the Laws of Time...but when no one is there to remind you that you are mortal like everyone else and that the universe does not simply obey your will, why would you ever continue to obey the latter? It so brilliantly explains WHY the Doctor needs a companion and, more importantly, why he needs to obey rules and boundaries rather than doing what he pleases. If you are truly this force that needs no one, then you truly will become the Oncoming Storm. And the universe will pay the price.

you hit the nail on the head with the tardis, she doesn't always take him where he wants to go but she always takes him when he needs to go, the tardis obviously sensed that the doctor needed reminding that he needs someone with him because if he is alone for too long, we all know what happens.

this is why the doctor shouldn't be alone. He lost everything essentially. Some of it because he let them go, aka Rose, some because he was saving their life Donna, and others because they moved on. But it still sticks with him. However I really don't understand their reactions to him at all. He saved their lives they were supposed to die what did the others think he was going to do to them LOL like OH GOD YOU SAVED MY LIFE RUN AWAY! the captain even her, i was like now you can inspire your granddaughter face to face that's actually nice, instead she committed suicide so how is that suppose to inspire her granddaughter? I dunno I had very different reaction to this episode I think then most people did.

Captain Adelaide Brookes will forever be one of my favorite characters in all of Doctor Who. She looked into they eyes of God and was disgusted by him. The Doctor in that moment took away all agency from everyone, and Adelaide chose to take the only action she had left, in defiance of The Timelord Victorious.

Get notification; break through the light barrier to get here. He does "arrogant" so well … as often happens, when people suddenly realise that they have a power, they overdo it. -you nailed it when you said "OK Master" - the only difference between the two is that one has a conscience. “I feel like im watching “stranger things”. Oh yes. This was a stranger things episode. Creepy monsters! The doctor did fight in the time war and he seems to hate what he did and who he was. Here we have a flash of how terrible he can be. We saw those flames when he first met Donna and she stopped him. Because of her he didn’t quite get to this point. But he “knew best” and left everyone behind in Journeys End. Funny how he left 10.5 with Rose because he feared he was full of darkness and knew she could stop him. But the other doctor is also him- he still has that dark side but he pushed everyone away and said he’s be fine. He’s not fine without a companion. He can easy be the master but I think he’s be worse
@FourthWallReactions
@FourthWallReactions 4 года назад
Agreed - I think because the Doctor is actually in his right mind, that might be worse than the Master who is, if I recall correctly, not in his right mind. Great point about the 10.5 Doctor and how he was viewed as having these dark qualities...only for the Doctor to do THIS. Hmm...

Ok, while this episode is mostly flawless, there is ONE big problem it raises: If Adelaide's Dalek knew who she was, which was why it didn't kill her...did no one tell it that Davros was planning to DETONATE ALL OF REALITY AND HER ALONG WITH IT?! The future of Human spacefaring won't really matter when you're about to MURDER EVERY RACE THAT EVER LIVED! Why did it care? Why would a Dalek care about preserving the Timeline, especially one in this Dalek Fleet?

Me: so.... was it a selective reality bomb you were going to destroy the universe with a couple episodes ago? And if Pompeii didn’t explode, that would certainly change this fixed point. Something doesn’t make sense here 🤔
@Mrazmatmahmood
@Mrazmatmahmood 4 года назад
Killing Adelaide in 2008 could've meant that the human species might develop much slower. She was a very important part of the advancement of space travel, so it could've meant satellite Five would never have been created. We all know how important that was to the Daleks in series 1 and since back in the RTD era, the Daleks had a consistent arc and each of their appearances flowed into one another, it makes sense for the Dalek to sense how important it is for Adelaide to live. There's also the matter of the Doctor to consider. Everything that happened on satellite five lead to the ninth Doctor's regeneration and the Doctor during Journey's End was of course the tenth. Another potential paradox would be created if they killed Adelaide and satellite five disappeared. The fractured timeline would probably destroy everything, including the Daleks. It makes sense for the Daleks to avoid that. Also, Daleks aren't insane. They're unstable but they are calculated, methodical killing machines. They've been programmed to hate anything different from them. Their xenophobia isn't insanity, it's simply a part of their nature.
