Addison_Reilly Yes, it is. He hadn't even formulated this plot at that time. He's admitted (can't remember if it was in Confidential or some other interview) to essentially making things up as he goes along. He doesn't really plan out more than a season at a time and thus has to do a lot of backtracking to make things connect...
The lady at the store who thought Craig and The Doctor were a couple: That was Lynda Baron, a singer/actress who sang the theme song from the First Doctor story 'The Gunfighters'. back in 1966. She then appeared as the evil Eternal Captain Wrack in the Fifth Doctor story 'Enlightenment'. For us old-timers it was a real treat to see her show up after all these years.
The Amy and Rory we saw are a couple months later after ''The god complex'' since Amy became a model, you see the perfume name is Petrichor from ''the doctor's wife'' and the slogan For the girl tired of waiting from ''The girl who waited''
I never got her model carrer thing. Like WHAT? how did that even happen. It just came out of nowhere. there was no buildup to why she enter modeling or how she was found or anything.
The newspaper that Craig pulled out of the pram is dated 19th April 2011, meaning that the episode takes place on 18th - 20th April, before the events of _"The Impossible Astronaut"._
That Amy & Rory have to be the ones The Doctor dropped off. She's in an ad for Petrichor...a word she learned on the recent adventures (when the TARDIS was a lady).
@@mr.scarlo2234 Really? I mean, I know that we see River get taken to Utah, but does that mean those events are concurrent? It just feels like Amy would recognize the word "petrichor" when it was said if she'd already done an ad campaign for a perfume of that name.
@@julienichols5333, the newspaper that Craig is holding in the episode is dated 19th April 2011, meaning that the episode takes place from 18th - 20th April, meaning that this is prior to _"The Impossible Astronaut"._
@@mr.scarlo2234 what the f*** are you talking about this thing takes place after the doctor drop them off in the previous episode the scene where she learns about petrichor is in the doctor's wife long after The Impossible Astronaut
Still love the green coat 11 wears. If 11 comes back for a multi doctor story, at any point in the future, he should wear that coat or his Series 7B attire.
Spectrum Storms Honestly hate both tbh, they both seem like such strange last minute changes, especially his 7B outfit. The tweed jacket is staple 11th Doctor imo and definitely much more iconic.
@@Pixel-ys8wi Ironically, I don't like the tweed *AT ALL.* I just don't think tweed looks good on anyone. It didn't look good when Seven wore it in the TV Movie and it didn't look good in Eleven's initial outfits.
I remember cringing in horror the first time I saw this episode, because I was so afraid they were going to mention what Cybermats are made of. Cybermats are what happens when the Cybermen try to convert human babies, and here's an episode heavily featuring a baby. This episode would've taken a VERY dark turn if they explored that.
I love this story, it’s the only episode where the power of love ending doesn’t bother me because the music is awesome and the whole episode is just a delight
And it’s more than the power of love. It’s the power of *parental* love; not just the power of a biological drive to preserve your lineage but the power and potency of a [good] parents love for and inner-strength inspired by their child, biological or not.
Cybermats originally appeared back in the classic episode "Tomb of the Cybermen" but were very different compared to now, they did continue to appear a few times throughout the classic series alongside the Cybermen, and they themselves kept changing and evolving their form
I've been waiting for Stormageddon (AKA Alfie) to be old enough to be a companion too(maybe he will travel with the 16th Doctor LOL). Stormy is my fav! 😍 River Song!! 💙
@@ПавелШарпов-к5л kind of... It was a very, very good episode, but not a good cybermen episode, if that makes any sense? Like, Gaiman wrote a fantastic episode for Matt Smith, seeing him interact with himself as Doctor and Cyberplanner was amazing... But as far as cyberman mythos and original feel, it was very lacking. I don't blame it at all, it's still a great episode, I just feel that Nightmare in Silver was the last chance Matt had of having a good, scary, emotional Cybermen episode, but instead what we got was a Doctor centered episode.
@SteinbrecherBack how is capaldi a hack? If anyone's at fault there, it would be moffat, but even then peter's run wasn't even bad. Jesus christ, you anti-sjw types fucking complaining about all the "propaganda" when most of the time there's fuck all propoganda.
Yeah, either in a 7b episode with Clara actually playing a role rather than Amy and Rory being relegated to a cameo. Or in the Time of the Doctor he should've met him one last time.
I believe, the "I don't like it" line was heard twice before, both from the Second Doctor. That was in specials called The Three Doctors (to the Third Doctor about his TARDIS) and The Five Doctors (to the Brigadier about UNIT). Since the Eleventh Doctor is heavily inspired by the Second Doctor, it makes sense that he would inherit that line.
I really hope later on that you all take the River Song Quiz where you are shown a picture of her in each episode she is in and you have to put them in the right order according to River's life; what she lived first to last. It is fun to see which episode everyone thinks is first.
A Person With a Name melody and river are the same person! Just as say 10 and 11 are the same person. Just because they’re names are different doesn’t mean they’re different people. Baby melody is the earliest version of river we see therefore it’s the start of her timeline just as the 1st doctor is the start of the doctors timeline
@Blind Wave - I do remember that BBC made a video showing River Songs Timeline from her perspective which she narrates. It might have been on the "after show" Doctor Who Confidential. Might be worth you guys reacting too at the end of this season.
I assumed when the Doctor sees Amy and Rory at the store, it's after The God Complex at a time when they are adjusting to life without the Doctor. Hence "The Girl Who's Tired of Waiting" on the ad. But Eric's speculation is also plausible. It's all timey-wimey.
I think Eric is wrong. The Amy and Rory we see have gone on the adventures from Series 6. The Doctor will take the envelopes and go back in time to the time of the "The Impossible Astronaut" He will run give the envelopes to Rory and Amy, Canton Delaware, River and his younger self.
Yep, Petrichor from the Doctor's Wife (Tardis in a body) Neil Gaiman episode ! :) Neil Gaiman who is the author of American Gods. The actor who plays Anubis plays a part in this episode... Oh my, everything is a lie, the earth is flaaaaaaat ! > > > > > > > Scarcasm (you never know with the internet). :)
The "You've redecorated" line is something the 2nd Doctor , Patrick Trouton used to say alot. He did say it in the Five Doctors to the Brigadiar though. I believe this is the first time the line was used in Modern Doctor Who but it has been used a few more times since.
Someone on the writing team knows their Who history - there's a line from the Tom Baker era, can't remember the episode - "It's not a rat, it's a cybermat". [I remember it from the Terrance Dicks adaptation]]
I think this is a solid episode ..the Cybermen stuff is secondary to the comedic and fun dynamic between Craig and The Doctor ,Matt Smith and James Corden have great chemistry together . Also Stormageddon is our lord and savior!!
Why the Doctor didn't interact with Amy and Rory in the clothing store is to keep their personal timeline intact. The newspaper is dated to 19th April 2011, dating this episode from the 18th to the 20th April which is before they went to Utah to meet the Doctor in "The Impossible Astronaut." Which happened a few days after this for them. This is made a fact in that episode cause Amy said the last time they had seen him, he was 908 and in this episode leading directly into the next makes him 1103.
I always assumed this was the Amy and Rory after the God complex but prior to the start of the season works too...if I’m not mistaken most classic series cybermen were made this way and the alt u cybermen had the other system? The second doctor was the one who said “I don’t like it” ... should be able to find the clip on RU-vid.
LOL! Before watching this reaction, I literally just saw a Keurig commercial with James Corden! What a coincidence! XD Also, I like the return of the Cybermen in this one. I just love this episode!
14:37 he should have the knowledge after he was head butted by the Doctor the first time they met. That doesn’t mean they are safest at his side. And 3:28 he has all the time in the universe to watch everything that has ever been made. He can go to different time periods, binge watch something, then go to another to stop some Cybermen.
Something interesting is that Craig said that the safest place was By the doctor. But in the end it wasn’t the doctor that protected Craig and Sofie, is was Craig who saved the day, verifying that the doctor is not the safest place to be by.
He used the T.A.R.D.I.S. to travel back in time to fix the house or room from that guy, so that means, while they had their adventure the Doctor existed a second time and fixed the house while they were in the mall and having issues with cyberman, hillarious great...
Amy and Rory in this one is the ones Doctor left because Amy at begining of season was not famous and had her own perfume.. so he will go back and give the envolopes to the ones before the season
That Amy and Rory are indeed supposed to be from after the God complex. In a Doctor who behind the scenes book, it’s explained that they’re supposed to be shopping for stuff for their new home. Lot of the scene got cut before it was filmed. Craig was also meant to ask The Doctor where Amy was. I’ve always found this buggy as technically this episode implies there’s two sets of any and Rory in the same time zone. As there’s another Amy and Rory about to get invites from the Doctor back in Leadworth... how do we explain Amy on the billboard? I guess timey wimey changes.
I want a sort of 'A few years later' sorta episode where The Doctor meets Craig and Stormageddon again after about..... 7 years now? 8 by the time Series 12 hits our screens. Maybe in 3 years when it becomes '10 years later' they'll revisit this.
The Amy and Rory from this episode are from after he dropped them off this season. They can’t be from before because Amy learned about petrichor this season.
James being in Doctor Who is the only reason why I didn't hate him for taking over after Craig Ferguson. Craig was still better and I miss him. James just got the Doctor Who pass. Everybody gets one. My brain can comprehend the timelines and everything of the River episodes, but I can't explain it to another person lol
Can ppl please remind them on her and on patreon that they need to react to the small little episode before Amy and Rory leave and one before 7x01 e.g. Pond Life like (Bad night, Good night, First night, Last night) please please everyone remind them on here on Patreon and on their website because if eveyone else reminds them too they will recognise
Since the doctor headbutted his memories into him the last time he was in the show wouldn't he know the fate of most of his companions and a lot of people who stick close to him on his day today adventures? In addition to that wouldn't he also be a bit of the doctor himself considering that he would have hundreds of years of memories implanted into him in a matter of moments and once he has those memories he is shaped by those memories as well? Or is it kind of just the important facts that he's transferring instead of his actual life memories?
gonna comment this now but make sure you cover the names of who is in the special episode of day of the doctor at the start to get the suprise reaction
Not my favourite episode and I'm not really a fan of James Corden either but I thought Matt and James had great chemistry in this episode. At least it made the episode watchable.
Is it bad that I liked this episode especially because all the Cybermen stuff took a backseat to the Doctor and Craig? I just don't feel Matt's run had any good Cyberman stories and I appreciated that they just capitalized on the characters' chemistry together instead of plot.
