He's a nurse so quite intelligent, which will have helped work out the best move to escape detection. He is also much quieter and used to being treated as invisible by everyone on life so he knows how to blend in (or doesn't have to try) which also means he will be less obvious and stand out less. Honestly I'm surprised he was caught at all.
The reason behind the Markings is because if you remember the Silence erase all information about them from your memory, including encounters. The Markings are basically a way to show that they had an encounter.
To quote Amy, this is where it gets complicated! Interesting that you mention the location filming at the beginning, because this was the first time the new series filmed in America! They decided to film there to appeal to American viewers, since S5 was already very popular over there. You mentioned not getting what the markings were, and to fill you in, it’s a strategy for knowing whether or not you’ve seen a silent. Every time you see one, mark it on your arm so that if you suddenly find yourself with a bunch of markings, you’ll know you’ve just seen them (you can see River doing it in the skyscraper). Still doesn’t make sense why they were marking their faces though lol. I’ll agree with you that this story is quite middling, and there’s a significant tonal shift from the last 5 series. Hoping you enjoy the rest of the series, since there’s quite a few ups and downs in terms of quality.
You really don’t want us to explain anything in the comments. We didn’t understand either when we first saw it. The puzzle pieces fall into place like a typical Moffat story over time with dropped hints you didn’t know were hints. Just buckle up and enjoy the ride. You are right the Doctor suspects something is up with Amy. Why can’t the TARDIS get a confirmed read on her pregnancy?
My favourite quote from this episode is from the Doctor when Canton asks him what about River, when she jumped off from the building: "Don't worry, she does that"😂 When you are thinking of River's timeline just remember that she and the Doctor are not just traveling in opposite directions. For us mostly, yes, but not all the time. Sometimes the Doctor meets older River and sometimes younger one.
Stephen Moffat does like to make complex stories, however the pay off is always amazing. It's not for everyone, but as you pointed out, it's definitely much easier to follow on a rewatch. Great reaction, always look forward to the next one.
Never found this particularly confusing but its hard to remember your first viewing and not mix it with what you picked up on rewatches This has always been one of my all time favourite two parters 😅 surprised you didnt like it
Well the good news is all the wibbly wobbly timey wimey stuff will make sense in the end. Just enjoy the ride and remember to be ready for surprises & twists.
Darn shame you weren't too big a fan, personally I love coming back to this post-Matt with all the context of the era. But also it feels just self contained enough to make it a fun rewatch, but tbf since it aired I have never watched them seperatley.
On review, and I think this is no spoiler, the moment at the end with River Song is the most heartbreaking. Knowing their lives run in opposite directions (basically) she believes that this is the last time she will kiss the Doctor, meaning that things in her life are begging to wrap up.
A big complaint with this era was how complicated the stories could be like you said. However, I don't think you're meant to think about it too much. You just let it pan out and it all makes sense in the end. I remember as a kid being a little lost but as an adult and having watched it all a few times, I appreciate Moffat's writing so much more. Although, I think when Doctor Who was at its best was when Russel and Moffat worked together. Episodes like "The Empty Child," "Blink," "Silence in the Library" were all instant classics. I do love this era of the show though just not as much as the RTD era.
Fair enough. I am starting to understand why people prefer the previous era. The stories are starting to get complicated and to the point where if you don’t pay attention for like 5 seconds you can end up missing out on important information.
The only advice I would give to anyone watching this for the first time, is that this all works out.... however you wish to tackle this season.... stressing over every detail or going with the flow.... in the end it is a story and they made it a great one. Geronimo!!!!!!!!
Yeah I’m not someone who likes to give my full review or thoughts on something until I’ve watched the whole season. But because I’m doing videos on it I have to say how I feel. If I was watching this off camera I would’ve had questions but would’ve binged it all and then seen how I felt. Can’t wait to watch more :)
This first half of this series is quite short as it has a split mid way through for half a year i think at the time? So I’d race through the next few episodes so you’re a bit ahead of all of the fkin not subtle at all comments and spoilers people just can’t seem to help posting 🙄
@@HamzaReactz You really should do that, the whole of season 6 (especially the first half) is designed for binge-watching, mainly because it's really confusing and sometimes (seemingly) illogical because Moffat likes to throw around red herrings and wants people to jump to (partly wrong) conclusions. Not saying anything else....
alrite, for The Doctor's Wife, i was worried u missed a perfect line just after the doctor complains that she never took him where he wanted to go, and she responds 'no, but I always took u where u needed to',,, and yeh, it's such a perfect line... also that episode is written by neil gaiman, which is wild
I didn’t miss it, I just didn’t have it in the reaction. Cut things up to avoid copyright. I had a feeling that would’ve been important. I’ll go with my gut next time on what I should keep in the edit 😂
I am delighted to see this up, but I was concerned as soon as you said it had been a week and you needed the recap. The first two eps really need to be watched back to back. I'd say the first half of this season, at least, is one story (even though some episodes seem stand alone) and are best watched pretty much back to back. Also there are major spoilers that might be leaked in the comments. I mean major! The faster you watch this one the better! A few notes: (not spoilers!) Alex Kingston who plays River Song, said while filming her first episodes, in the Library with the Tenth doctor, the diary she held was filled. She thought the props department really went the extra mile because there were all these detailed stories (some of which you have seen, such as this one and the crash of the Byzantium). After she filmed many episodes she realized Moffat had put all that in there. Her arc was planned in Moffat's head even before he was Headwriter. Very cool! Yes, we get very timey wimey but it's all one story, so watch through as quickly as you can! And maybe rewatch first and second ep back to back. Much more will be clear. This season is definitely for binge watching. Historical Note (remember I was here for this! At least for the Apollo moon landing, which I watched live on TV, and Richard Nixon as president. Nixon in his latter days became paranoid and began recording everything. That led to his downfall in the Watergate Crisis. In Doctor Who, it's explained by his expereince here, which is kinda funny! I think this opener was made for Americans and is a smile and wave to us from across the pond.
Interesting, thanks for telling me all that. And I was going to watch a bunch of episodes together to avoid spoilers but I remembered I can’t cause I’m watching Torchwood inbetween so it’s not possible.
I think a lot of people feel that series 6 got too complicated. That is probably fair enough but, as someone who has watched it more than once, I think it is pretty awesome! On a re-watch you lose the shock of things like the Doctor being shot etc. but in many ways it is more enjoyable because you actually understand what's happening and aren't confused! Hang in there! Btw - I'm really enjoying your reactions!
Despite having just left a long comment, I strongly recommend avoiding the comments until mid series. People are putting down crypic things that can actually spoil. Binge it! And upload after watching the through episode 7 (I think... mid series)
Hopefully it makes a bit more sense after the edit but somethings will only make sense in hindsight. I know this one did confuse mev- i probably need to rewatch.
It's understandable to not like so much these two parts. Seven of the thirteen episodes are connected to the basic plot of the 6th series, so you have just watched the first part. The content of these two episodes will make more sense while you are watching the rest of the series. Also there are standalone episodes such as the next one with the pirates.
The facial markings never made sense because the idea is that you make a mark to tell yourself you saw a silence. Drawing on your face would have marks you can only see in a reflective surface so not helpful. I mean, sure creepy looking, and yeah, it looks like you’ve seen a lot of silents but is it practical?
To truly understand Steven Moffat, you have to understand his writing style. I call it back to front. He writes starting at the end. So the story can go in ANY direction as long as it all makes sense and it always does. You will come to miss it in the future when there are only political writers, who know NOTHING about DW, trying to re-write Who's history in a horrid show with a stupid woman Doctor. Thankfully those days are over and RTD is back in charge. Things are looking up for DW after almost 5 years. I highly suggest you NEVER watch Jodie's very poor attempt .
