I know some of you are upset that I didn't react to Pond Life. I did get mixed reviews about whether or not I should watch it. But to be honest loves, I have been very sick all week and once I felt okay to record, it didn't come to mind. I just wanted to film while I was feeling decent and get it over quickly. I'm sorry I've upset some of you. Love you all! And I hope you enjoy the reaction! Who's excited for Season 7????? Much Love, Sesska
Don't worry about it! Your reaction to this episode was completely fine without having seen that, and I'm sure the majority of us would have liked to have seen this episode's reaction sooner than later, so you did the right thing either way. Hope your feeling better soon, looking forward to the rest of Season 7! xx
Don't worry - not everyone watches the minisodes when the show aired - they're just optional extras. Just glad you're well enough to have done this - great reaction!
@@archive9796 Rory remembers his time before the reboot of the universe. He mentions it numerous times throughout series 6. I don't think he knows much about the Daleks apart from the one he encountered in the old timeline, and given he was in the middle of a decrepit junkyard of Daleks, he could've assumed they were harmless. Another reason is that it's just a continuity error and the writers forgot that Rory had already encountered the Daleks.
While everyone was crying for Amy and Rory with their breakup and getting back together, here I am crying for my favorite companion, Oswin. Even though you were just in one episode and you were a Dalek, you were the best companion ever!
7:36 - *Amy: “It's not one of those things you can ‘fix’. like you fix your bow tie.”* 14:07 - *Rory: “It's the Doctor's. While you were sleeping…”* *Amy: “Time Lord! What's the bet he doesn't even need it?”* *Rory: “Then why didn't he just tell us?!”* *The Doctor: Smugly **_fixes his bow tie!_*
'Oh hes a sneaky little bitch' 😂 Eleven is a very sneaky and manipulative Doctor, for all of his loveliness and how funny he is, he has a manipulative streak
One of the things I like about Moffat's writing is he openly tells or shows you the plot twist before the plot even twists. He just hides it in plain sight to rob a quote from the last episode of series 6. He does it in Sherlock too....sneaky or rather, not so sneaky bugger. This episode keeps hinting at eggs, eggsterminate etc and yet Oswin being a Dalek still comes as a surprise.
Something I just thought of, even though oswin was a dalek she was still clearly mentally human and had real emotions so I don’t understand why the doctor didn’t save her and have a dalek as a companion, I’m sure it would also be a great advantage when he met them again in the future because she could blend in and gain intel
Even though this season isn't one of my favourites, I get the feeling people could spoil a TON about it. So for the love of God, everyone, keep your spoilers to yourself. No point in being on a reaction channel if you want to spoil stuff.
I actually think this is a great twist as if you didn't know going in about ..... then at ...ep after Amy and Rory you'll like "oh -- is the same -----"
"Owh, hes a sneeky little bitch" :D - just loved that little straightening of the bow-tie moment ! The 3 leads are really in their stride here and spar beatifully. Awesome reactions too :)
I think this episode is somewhat unfairly maligned. That is, by some people - plenty of people love it. My only problem with it, and to be fair it is quite a big problem, is the rushed Amy/Rory divorce subplot. But I love the portrayal of the Daleks in the Asylum, the nanocloud is a really cool idea, and I loved the unexpected and disturbing twist regarding Oswin.
But if the crew/corpses of the Starship Alaska were turned into Dalek puppets how were they able to do a full-scale conversion on Clara? Also, when you hear her on the intercom, post conversion, she still retains her human voice. Unless it's scripted for atmospheric effect how's that even happened?
The Amy/Rory subplot was shoehorned and I didn't like the suddenness of it, but the direction by Nick Hurran (The God Complex, Girl Who Waited) was just incredible throughout the entire episode and I loved having the Daleks back and bigger than ever.
I think some plot elements, eg the divorce, are there to show that the Doctor's timeline doesn't directly match Earth's timeline - he's possibly been away travelling through time alone, while events back on Earth have progressed without him. So often in the show it can seem like the companions' timelines are perfectly synced with the Doctor's, but writing little reminders into the plot make it less jarring when an episode relies on things being out of sync, or if later on they want to refer to something that happened 'while he was travelling alone' or even just so there are gaps in the continuity for the audiobooks to exist within. I always just assumed it was a timey-wimey thing like that, one way or another.
Something I can't forgive this episode for is the 'Parliament of the Daleks' and the 'Dalek Prime Minister'... wtf 😂 Like the Daleks would have a democratic system... 😂
It's really a shame that the producers are contractually obligated to use the Daleks every season, otherwise we wouldn't get stupid shit like the Dalek PM
James Thompson Exactly. I love it when they manage to pull it out of the bag with a fantastic Dalek episode. When done right, they can be the best thing about the show and I even love the concept of this episode - I feel the potential with what they could do with insane Daleks was a bit wasted though and of course a Dalek PM & Parliament is just ridiculous...
This episode brings so many feels! And it has great lines from everyone. Just remember there's a christmas special in the middle of the season, between episodes 5 and 6. There're also a few mini episodes all over the season, which are quite good.
Loved your reaction to this one, I've watched Doctor Who since I was a child (from Hartnell all the way to Capaldi) and for me this is one of the strongest Dalek stories.
Fun fact: when Oswin's listing off the Daleks in intensive care as survivors (Exxilon, Kembel, Aridius, Spiridon, Vulcan), she's actually referencing planets from the classic era where the Doctor and Daleks were fighting. Now, why they have the modern design instead of the old gray/silver ones is beyond me, as is the whole Amy/Rory divorce thing. It just seems so artificial, especially when, if they want the experience of knowing and raising a baby, there's this thing called ADOPTION!!!
I know, I was just referencing the ones from intensive care since (being actual Daleks that encountered the classic Doctors), they should have their old casings. It wouldn't make sense for the ones who locked them up to go through the trouble of giving them new casings.
Adoption isn't a thing EASY to accept for couples who just discover they can't have another baby. Especially coming from an adventure that Amy puts them on (being with the Doctor). I mean?? It's not artificial to see a woman on screen, talking about her losing her baby, not being able to have children anymore, and the weight it has on her and what she feels her husband feels for her.
Not only that, but from what I've seen from Classic Series, I don't recall any Dalek survivors from Kembel there was that Dalek at the end of the story. I don't know about the others, Vulcan did have one survivor (the Dalek at the hand of the story) and potentially another Daleks, but from Kembel is impossible.
One thing I disliked about this episode that I haven't seen many people mention is the fact that before it was aired they really hyped up the fact that the old 60s daleks are returning but in the actual episode they literally appear in the background for 2 seconds.
My top 3 moments in this episode: "I forgot about dying" Rory's scene with the Daleks The final reveal about Oswin This is a solid series opener imo. Better than Rose, New Earth and The Pilot imo.
Everyones talking about how sad they were about Oswin or about the lack of Daleks, but I'm just sad that this marks the last appearance of the New Paradigm Daleks, the taller ones one with distinguishing colours. While their faction will appear again, the actual officer class (The ones with the coloured chassis) have yet to be seen again outside of live events and games.
Your rage "wtf" face in the beginning at Amy and Rory's apparent divorce was amazing. I really like this episode. Yeah, I kind of find the human/dalek puppets a bit... odd, but it doesn't detract much from the whole for me. I love the Oswin Oswald story. I remember absolutely falling in love with her when this came out, and thought it was all very tragic but also such an interesting concept. And pretty disturbing! She was there chained up for a year. Definitely one of my favorite Daleks stories in New Who. Your :O face when Oswin as a dalek was revealed was definitely me at the time as well. The Amy and Rory subplot I have mixed opinions about. I think it was thrown in a bit hastily, but I get the point of emphasizing Amy's abandonment issues and how she deals with them by pushing people away when she gets scared. It's a character exploration thing that kind of feels like it dumps you at the end of the exploration. :P But the scene with her and Rory is very emotional and I guess they just needed an extra emotional subplot outside of the Asylum story. And I love the motif of the Doctor fixing his bowtie. But HEY, first episode of s7, done! I'm really looking forward to the rest. S7 is one of those that has greatly improved on rewatch for me, so it's going to be fun to rewatch it AGAIN and see how it goes this time around. Seriously though, I've had a shitty shitty week, and I'm so glad I could watch this (I might even have stayed up a bit too late even though I have work in the morning...), because it improved my mood immensly, and had me laughing/tearing up along with you. Thanks for being awesome. :)
I hate that you missed Pond Life, only because I know how much you would LOVE IT! It does set up the surprise of the Ponds' relationship before this story.
Just a heads up about this season - they did a weird thing with it where they split the season in half due to filming schedule issues with the cast. So originally they only aired 5 episodes and then stopped for the year to finish filming Season 7, aired the next Christmas Special, and didn't air episodes 6-13 until the next spring. So after you finish Episode 5, make sure you watch the Christmas Special (it's called "The Snowmen" - no spoilers from the title, it's the only reason I'm saying it) before you move onto Episode 6! Otherwise you'll be very confused.
Just wanted to say i love your reactions especially for Doctor Who. I don't know if you have been informed but season 7 is a bit different from the other seasons. Where as other seasons have the Christmas special after the season ends, this season is stuck in the middle. So After watching episode 5, you must watch the Christmas Special The Snowmen fist before watching episode 6.
I have a feeling the doctor knew about Rory and Amy's problems so he asked the daleks for help (Dalek marriage counselling ) Step one kidnap the couple Step two fire couple at a deadly planet that will only bring them together Step three make it so one of them might die Step four use this to make them fall in love Step five have the Doctor save the person as you know he doesn't need the wrist watch Step six have a faulty Dalek save them all and have it delete the daleks memory of the doctor (ok we may have f**ked up on that one)
I may have done an evil laugh at the end of this video as you speculated about companions... You are in for a wild ride! In the best way possible! This series was just a load of fun... With some genuine touching and sad moments to contrast.
One of the better episodes of this series, not a huge fan of S7 (it's actually my least favourite series) but interested to see what you think of it! I loved the argument scene between Amy and Rory, a beautifully acted scene. Looking forward to some future stories in this season! :)
Haha yeah exactly. We'll see though, Sesskasays is quite an unpredictable reactor. E.g, we expected approval for The Girl in the Fireplace and disapproval for Love and Monsters, and we got the exact opposite for both. It's part of the reason she's my favourite reactor.
Don't forget - one of her favourite Tennant episodes is Love and Monsters - so, yes, Jess definitely buck fandom expectations (and good for her for doing so, L&M doesn't get nearly the love it deserves).
I agree! I enjoy Love and Monsters, certainly not the best episode but it shouldn't be called the worst episode ever when there are SO many more boring or cheesy stories.
"Oh he's a sneaky little bitch!" Haha. I find this episode very reaction worthy and it was really cool to see what you thought of it. We got the Amy Rory reunion, Oswin the Dalek in Denial, plus the Doctor's physical and mental battle with the daleks. I wonder if the Doctor secretly doesnt like that the daleks forgot him. Does he want his enemies to remember him because of his ego? Is his pride more important to him than his safety? I think maybe he likes the attention and the strong emotions (albeit hateful emotions) they have for him. It makes him feel powerful. But with him forgotten, he is just an ordinary person to them. Very complex episode.
Very enjoyable! Liked your reactions to Rory/Amy and then also to Oswin. (Really liked how you thought about her and how she might be/was not a future companion?!?!?! Totally enjoyed!)
Great vid as always! Btw, do you know why TorchwoodBoy didn't upload any Buffy reactions last week? One of the last ones he put up was 'The Body', and I'm making allowances for the fact that he not only had to watch it, he had to edit his reaction, and that's probably enough to cause death-by-feels for anyone.
Oswin was talking to us too. 'And remember.' Was made for us. She wanted us to remember her face for when we see her again in the snowmen and bells of saint john
For those saying about Pond Life, please explain to me how knowing about Rory and Amy's marriage issues would be better than going in, hearing about the divorce and being in utter shock? It's clear this was the best option for the best reaction. Pond Life is pretty pointless.
I've loved all of the full episodes Chris Chibnall has written for Doctor Who and I'm super excited to see what he'll bring to the table next year, but man, I found Pond Life tedious and dull (and, as you say, pointless).
I think it can be a fun thing to watch later, because I love random Pond stuff, but yeah. It also spoils some... other things (that were already out to the general audience at the time because trailers, but would spoil things for Sess).
I'm really excited for this season!! There are plenty of good, fun episodes, even if there aren't many great ones. This was a pretty good start and although I've never found the Daleks to be intimidating or terrifying, I thought the asylum was a perfect environment for making these Daleks seem at least a bit disturbing. While I really liked this episode, it would be better to explore in more depth how Amy's abandonment issues are affecting her relationship with Rory at this point. Their pain for not being there as parents to Melody would've been fascinating to examine, had there been enough time to do it justice. These emotions are too complex for this episode though (perhaps for this show). Nevertheless it was still touching. I'm always for Amy, never against her. Aww, Oswin Oswald. You will be missed. I'm so glad you love this "sneaky little bitch" Doctor!! Thank you so much for a wonderful reaction!. Take care!!
Literally the only thing that irks me about this episode (in retrospect after the fact), is that throughout clearly the Doctor and CO are hearing Oswin's voice...but after the reveal that she's a dalek we hear the standard dalek voice when she talks...so...how were they hearing her human voice?
"oh hes a sneaky lil bitch!! i love him!" hahahahaha thanks you made me snort beer, i should never drink and watch sesskasays it just ends in a mess lol
A lot of people didn't like that episodes, But I did. The one thing that I would've done differently is that I think it would've been stronger if Amy was unwilling rather than unable to have children. I think it would've been good to address the trauma of losing the opportunity of raising River and maybe the fear that her next child might be kidnapped again. As a writer, I think that's much more interesting, character-wise. But besides that, great episode,
I don't think that would have worked as well in the context of this scenario. As a character point, that is interesting but if that were to be done, I'd like it to be handled as an arc (i.e. Rory brings up the idea and Amy opposes etc.). The idea of the two already having split up doesn't reach its full potential because it's rushed but especially with the way it's revealed, I don't think it would speak well for Amy to say that she actually broke up with Rory because of that.
Great reaction... yes, Jenna Coleman had been relieved as a new companion prior to this episode being broadcast - it was deliberate so that we'd recognise her when she appeared in this episode. As to why, how etc... that's a very long story and one to look forward to. Glad you recognised her, otherwise the reveal in this episode wouldn't have worked as well.
