That first Tardis reveal is pure magic. The zoom out, Barbara and Ian stunned into silence, it's perfect. I don't rave about Episode 1 as much as everyone else but moments like that really elevate it
Hiya, I was at the BFI screening so a quick note about the funding for the animations - They confirmed that BBC America backed out, so the funding for new animations now solely comes from BBC Studios
I noticed Waris' directing alot more on my recent rewatch and appreciated how creative he was on a low budget. Makes me more sad Marco Polo is missing as with how good the set photos look I know he would have made it look spectacular
This is where it all started …… ahh it’s probably not edge of your seat exciting but episode one definitely draws you in. Hope that guy lets the BEEB put it online it deserves to be there for everyone to see it . Held off buying the few collection sets I don’t have, I will get them eventually but will be good to watch classic who on iPlayer story by story looking forward to that will be a shame if the very 1st one isn’t there 😢.
What a cool story, I can’t wait for more people to see it on iPlayer and Disney+, and I’m glad that there’s no chance that a Holocaust denier will give the rights to the story being to a war criminal dictator.
Great, balanced vid. You guys always make me want to go back and watch stories I had previously no interest in revisiting! (This excludes first ep, which I adore)
This story was my first exposure to Doctor Who, (I'm not 70 I'm 24!) it sucked me in enough that before I knew it I was all the way up to The Time Meddler before having seen any in colour, let alone any of the new series One other interesting point in this is to contrast the skull bashing Doctor here with the Doctor in The Savages standing in defence of the stricken savage, its a very moving character progression, and one reason its a terrible shame we dont have the Savages
I'm just watching this now and I'd like to say what a great observation you made Matt about the Dr.'s love of human beings being due to Ian and Barbera.
Is there any chance you are going to return the Action figures adventures to do a 60th anniversary special? I loved your last anniversary special, "The Ten Doctors". Please do another one!
Wondering if Disney will "simulcast" the 60th or let BBC have a legit premier, or actually just drop it after midnight US time, hours ahead of the UK tv showing. In which case all bets are off as to where and when I'll personally be watching cos spoilers. Likewise I'll be checking out the iplayer on the 1st but An Unearthly is reserved for the 23rd, natch. Just to mention the wording of the BBC announcement is "at first / a curated journey through the archive," which might actually be a bit like the early Britbox days? There, they had maybe 10 stories from each era plus a couple of documentaries. All amusing enough to stream but not quite the rewatch in order I'd hoped for. That did arrive in the end of course but I'm curious how curated they aim to be
