DOCTOR WHO BOOM EARLY REVIEWS! CRITICS PRAISE NEW MOFFAT EPISODE AS A "INSTANT CLASSIC"!

Doctor Who is a British science-fiction television programme broadcast by the BBC since 1963. The programme depicts the adventures of a Time Lord called the Doctor, an extraterrestrial being who appears to be human. The Doctor explores the universe in a time-travelling space ship called the TARDIS. The TARDIS exterior appears as a blue British police box, which was a common sight in Britain in 1963 when the series first aired. With various companions, the Doctor combats foes, works to save civilisations, and helps people in need.
Beginning with William Hartnell, fifteen actors have headlined the series as the Doctor. The transition from one actor to another is written into the plot of the show with the concept of regeneration into a new incarnation, a plot device in which a Time Lord "transforms" into a new body when the current one is too badly harmed to heal normally.
The fourteenth series of the British science fiction television programme Doctor Who is set to premiere on 11 May 2024, and is expected to air through to 22 June. It will be the fifth series led by Russell T Davies as head writer and executive producer and the first since his return to the show, having previously worked on it from 2005 to 2010. This series is set to be the fourteenth to air following the programme's revival in 2005 and will be the fortieth season overall. The fourteenth series was announced with Davies' return to the programme for its 60th anniversary in 2023 and beyond, with Bad Wolf becoming a co-producer for the series. The series is referred to in marketing and promotional material as "Season One" following the production changes and the acquisition of Doctor Who's international broadcasting rights by Disney+.
The series stars Ncuti Gatwa as the Fifteenth Doctor, a new incarnation of the Doctor, an alien Time Lord who travels through time and space in the TARDIS, which appears to be a British police box from the outside. The Fifteenth Doctor was introduced in "The Giggle" (2023) through a "bi-generation", in which he split from his predecessor, the Fourteenth Doctor (David Tennant), rather than replacing him. The series also introduces Millie Gibson as the Doctor's newest companion, Ruby Sunday.
The series, which was preceded by a Christmas episode on 25 December 2023, will consist of eight episodes, which have been directed by Julie Anne Robinson, Ben Chessell, Dylan Holmes Williams, and Jamie Donoughue. Alongside Davies, who wrote six of the episodes, the writers include Kate Herron, Briony Redman, and former showrunner and head writer Steven Moffat. Filming began in December 2022 and concluded in July 2023. It was the first series to be produced at Wolf Studios Wales following the move from Roath Lock Studios for the preceding anniversary specials.
Auditions for the role of the Fifteenth Doctor started in December 2021, assisted by casting director Andy Pryor. Davies was interested in casting "new talent" and someone "younger", with most of the actors who auditioned under the age of 30. There was also no limit on gender and background, with auditions held for men, women, and one non-binary actor. Pryor said that when casting the Doctor, "you always want someone unexpected... an actor who contrasts with what's gone before yet still brings those essential qualities that the Doctor has". Ncuti Gatwa was the final candidate to audition for the role. Davies said that the production team "thought [they] had someone and then in he came and stole it", describing it as "the most blazing audition". Executive producer Phil Collinson stated that Gatwa "did things with [the role] that I'd never seen an actor playing Doctor Who do".
On 9 January 2023, the BBC announced that Aneurin Barnard would appear as the mysterious Roger ap Gwilliam, and that Jemma Redgrave, having reprised her role in the previous series would continue to appear as Kate Stewart during the fourteenth series. On 20 January 2023, further casting announcements from the BBC revealed that Anita Dobson and Michelle Greenidge would appear as Ms Flood and Carla Sunday. On 3 April 2023, it was announced that Jinkx Monsoon would play a major antagonistic role in the series, called "Maestro". On 5 May 2023, it was announced that Jonathan Groff would play a key role in the series. On 24 May 2023, the BBC announced that Indira Varma would join the series to play The Duchess. On 7 June 2023, Bonnie Langford was announced to be reprising her role as Mel Bush for the series. On 15 June 2023, Lenny Rush was also announced, to play a "mysterious" character named Morris. Alexander Devrient will reprise his role as Colonel Christopher Ibrahim.

Alright to have that opinion but it isn't actually factual. Its 50/50 during the RTD and his own and that is based on the actual reception of his own era's best episodes by professional critics. RTD also never edited any of Moffat's scripts. He's the only writer he entrusted that with.

I have a theory. Susan Twist is playing "Ambulance" in this episode. What are ambulances? Vehicles transporting doctors. The fact that S.Triad (another of her characters) is an anagram of TARDIS could prove this further!

Yes, I like her to be a the Tardis in human form much like The Doctor’s Wife, but maybe only a part of the Tardis. This is why she is everywhere the Doctor appears. I like Mrs. Flood to be an incarnation of Susan, the Doctor’s granddaughter. I think they are both looking out for the Doctor as he is trapped in some alternate reality.

I wonder if something happened between the doctor and mrs flood in between those two scenes... like she saw the tardis dissappear when he went to save Davina, and when he returns, she accosts him or something and he whisks her into the tardis for some timey wimey trip or something. He wouldn't need long, as long as the tardis herself plays ball and brings them back to the moment they left. If that is the case it might be covered in one of the upcoming episodes.

I'm really loving this season already. It's not just because the camp and fun is back for me, but the entire message of "Be careful what you say because your words create the reality around you" message and mystery. Not a hot take since I think a lot of people really liked his run but it wasn't my favourite. I think he was better at writing standalone episodes rather than the long series arcs. Plus I didn't like how he wrote his companions. I think it's so important to show the companions earthly lives to help us know who they are, and I'm so glad that's back with Ruby. I feel like I know Ruby already more than Clara and Amy. Bill was probably the exception for Moffat.

Moffat is great at the standalone plots and ideas and those big epic moments, whereas I think RTD was really good at the human and emotional aspects of the story. Put them together and that's peak Who imo. When you look at Moffats episodes under RTD you see what I mean. I think RTD added a lot to those scripts too. For example the conversation between Donna and the Doctor at the end of the Library 2 partner. I am almost certain that was RTD.

As the Timeless child, not a Timelord, with unlimited regenerations, do these situations really still have the same tension? Thanks to Chris Chibnall and RTD, the Doctor could technically stand on every landmine on the planet. Still Moffat is the best sci-fi writer out of the three by a mile, so it should still be one of the better episodes.

i think its implied that he can still die if his regeneration is interrupted like standard regen rules and that the timelords removed his ability to infinitely regenerate when they "reset" him to the first doctor, yeah it does suck that its messed with the lore in such a monumental way but it hasnt changed the stakes of his life (which were kinda already low anyway cause we always know he lives)

Tennant was also terrified of the Toymaker, and then the Toymaker nearly killed him. Etherial god like beings from another universe should terrify anyone. The Bogeyman was created to terrify, but the Doctor does overcome that. It might have been better not to put that one right next to a battle against a God though, but hard to escape that in an 8 episode run with multiple episodes dealing with those forces. I think what is different is the Doctor displays his fear emotionally, because there are a lot of episodes throughout the classic and modern run where the Doctor says he is terrified, but remains relatively emotionless about it on the outside.

So much is good and sooo much is not so good. Does it have to be a political platform? Can't it be just fun and entertaining? Can't Millie Gibson work on the timing of her lines? You're thinking along the same lines as me. I had so much hope for the show to get a bit more together again after the debacle that was the Chibnall era But after watching the disappointment of the Tennant specials and the 12-13 mins of CORR at Xmas, when that panto singing started I was out like a light. And every time I see Ncuti Gatwa say "I'm the Doctor!" I don't see someone playing a character that I've watched since the end of the Troughton era. I see a smug bloke, that hasn't probably watched a single full episode of Dr Who. More interested in himself and plodding through utter rubbish writing? I mean what is all this bi- generation crap. Two Tardises being whacked out each other by a circus mallet the just happened to be by the front door of the Tardis? That's not how Tarsdises are created, and I don't give a hoot that it was because they were still in the Toymaker's world. So why in the original story did the Toymaker go to so much trouble to get his hands on his Tardis when all he had to do was hit it on the side? It's just being used to ram all kinds of rubbish into people's heads because we apparently can't think for ourselves. I only watch some review shows like this to see how disappointed most people are with it. If it ever returns to its former self, I'll watch it like a flash, but for now I'm staying away.
